720p Video experiments... let's see yours

The size is nuts on these videos....almost 1mb per second in some cases.

Yep, that's about what I've been seeing.

Here's my videos and my first forum post!

Welcome, thanks for sharing.

It's seeming like these phones will do fine in a pinch for video recording. Wayyy better than it was before, that's for sure. Lighting adjustments kinda suck, especially outside going from shadows to light and such. Wouldn't use it to record my daughter's wedding, but just to catch something cool when I'm out and about.

Some people are still going to flame the quality though, not taking it for what it really is...I mean really, it's just another awesome feature on an Incredible phone.

I agree it definitely won't replace a HD Camcorder but for capturing life's random moments while out and about it's perfect and a great improvement over the previous capture quality.

The one with the crazy ass socks. It was 'crazy sock' day.

Anyway, this is her third class, and by far the youngest, so cut her a break :D

How did I know it was the one with the crazy sock hehe, what does that say about you :P very nice bro,

Im overall quite happy with the quality tbh, with and without the update. The 720p works quite well in good light so i'm happy with that.

My question is, will we ever be able to record better audio whilst recording video? is there a way to break that shitty 9k audio we record?

Because when I use like a voice app recorder or something, its way higher quality.

Good question, I don't know. I doubt it, without some better mics.

Well you see thats what confuses me, when you record you voice using Voice recorder app or something, the quality is so much better, but when you record you voice with the camcorder is a lot worse, so It must be the file type .3gp would be nice if we could record in .mp4, maybe someone will figure out a way of changing the conversion format or something. i dno.

Thanks for info tho

Here are some of my samples:

The 720p vid is huge compared to the other two! lol
720p does record at about 1mb per sec but the quality is well worth it. Just dont see recording a mini movie with it unless you had a 32gb card or bigger... lol
For short vids it is super though...

I stood 4ft from my hdtv and recorded 3 vids/30sec each of mythbusters show

These are the phones details on each video:
720P
1280x720 video
duration 30sec
file size 29.31mb
frame rate 23fps
bit rate 8.0000mbps
YouTube - 1280x720

WGVA
840x480 video
30sec
7.38mb
29fps
2.0000mbps
YouTube - 800x480.3gp test video

VGA
640x480 video
30sec
5.95mb
29fps
1.60000mbps
YouTube - 640x480.3gp test video

Lol. That would be me. Yes, it is a nice feature to have to the phone and much appreciated. I welcome the upgrade. However, the quality isn't that great; especially the audio and drop framerates. It also kills the battery. I shot 15 minutes of video and it killed my battery which was at 77% charge. I was shooting in low light which put a strain on the sensor.

Some amazing videos......so now that we have 720p which is better? EVO or DInc? Jk i'm not going there! :)

In my opinion. They're both the same. They have the same sensor and the file-output are both the same. Same bit-rate. Same video and audio codec.

The other phones on the market trounce both the EVO/Incredible.

The other phones....care to be just a wee bit more specific?

Sure, but you're not gonna like the answer:
1) iPhone 4/Nokia
2) Droid X
3) Galaxy S

The Incredible, like the EVO: Shoots using 3gp MPEG4, 24fps which I've seen drop to 9fps in low-light. Exposure gets all crazy and can't handle sudden shifts in light or motion. Audio sounds like a tin-can, 8-9khz AMR vs 44khz on the other phones. Nothing in the world is gonna change this unless someone writes awesome software to fix it.

Incredible/EVO will never shoot video like these:

YouTube - Carny - iPhone 4 HD Test music video
YouTube - First OFFICIAL iPhone 4 Music Video - for FLAKJAKT "Cascades"
YouTube - APPLE OF MY EYE - an iPhone 4 movie / film

Watch, someone is gonna reply about the antenna/death grip because they can't accept the fact other phones will shoot better video and take better picts.

When the EVO Incredible shoots 30fps/H.264, it will be just as good as the others. Don't get me wrong, I welcome the addition. It is good to have a camera on your phone. Who knows, you can be recording a cop kill someone on a transit train. Best cam is the cam you have on you

I actually lost a lot of respect for Apple when they trashed other companies to cover up their inadequacies. That said, I've little doubt that Froyo will resolve a lot of the framerate issues.

How come you didn't provide any Galaxy S or Droid X examples?

Why does everyone think Froyo will magically fix all the problems/issues? The camera is a vendor specific implementation. Each company uses different sensors and codecs. Our HTC phone's cam is capable of great things. It is up to HTC to pony up the licenses and pay the right company to write the software for their cameras.

There are a few scattered around this and various boards. From the quality I've seen (I check for exposure and motion), they're ok. However, I don't really care to bookmark people's videos of their dogs and backyard. I saw a few Droid X vids that had excellent exposure and metering on the Droid X forum.

I normally check out cam quality on vimeo. I see what and how people can push cheap cameras/dslr creatively. The 1st video is good because it shows rapid exposure changes at night; something difficult to do. Unfortunately, nobody on any of the digicam/editing/hollywood sites are using current Android phones for experimental movies. If there was a professionally edited footage using an EVO, I'd would have notice. I check vimeo 4x a day and specifically search for Android footage.

@speedmaster.

You are taking videos that are professionally made with high quality music uploaded to them and comparing them to quick backyard videos.

The Incredible could perform quite closely as the other vids - just give it to the right person and take it to a carnival, do some editing, and upload a track.

You are fooled quite easily aren't you?

Anyways, it's a phone first and the Incredible can actually get a signal unlike the iPhone 4 thanks to the disastrous design by Apple (hey you asked).

Now you are just going to lurk this thread for it's remaining life like you did with all of the picture threads and just tell everyone how much better the other phones are and upload examples.

What is your point in constantly degrading Incredible users for no reason that wish to upload media. No one claimed the Incredible has the best media shooting. They are just sharing.

You sir, need a life.

Wow, can't wait to get my update!

It also looks like I'm going to need a bigger SD card. Anyone know some good deals on 16GB and 32GB micro SD cards? :D

Gotta say, I think the iphone 4 720p video definitely looks better but let's not forget that this is an accessory feature. Apple engineered a great solution for HD video but it came at the expense of a few critical poor decisions IMHO. We're not reviewing handheld HD camcorders here.

Why do I think Froyo would help?

Hmmmm, because the camera is CPU driven and CPU performance is increased 5 fold? Not sure why I think Froyo might increase the framerate for the camcorder....;)

It may not. But I won't be shocked if it does.

You might know your cameras, but either you are biased, or you don't understand the OS....
