Root a little help needed please.

hi matt,

have just tried rev again, generated number from programme, tried both numbers, making sure of upper and lower case but still no joy. damm it. really stuck now. dont know what to try.

Never used it (came long after I was rooted and S-Off), but have you tried, copying and pasting the key (avoid any risk of mistyping), or generateing the key again, to make sure you didn't mistype the serial number the first time?

yes , it will not let me paste it in the programme. have tried it half a dozen times. one thing i noticed was the key actually only changed once, and all the others have being the same. have tried starting from scratch. all this happened last week exactly the same.

If you are using Windows I believe there are tricks to copy/paste into a command prompt, but it's not a system I use. Maybe paste into something like notepad first, or even into Word so that you can see the string using a different font. I'd look out for letters and numbers that look similar (I, l and 1, for example, or 0 and O).

It's not a matter of upper or lower case, you'll want to use mixed case, exactly as the key was presented.

being trying again, used 1s instead of ls and the like. abs sure not typeing wrong case or letters. looks like its not going to work for me.

have tried all combinations, the program always gives me the same code which I have tried everything possible. Did find one difference when enlarging the code in word, inserted the correct code but still no good.

Don't know if it has somehow locked me out with having so many attempts. Have just tried revoked same thing missing cid error, going to look at this in stickies.

There is another 5 hours complete waste, any ideas?

yes, this is where you create a goldcard and downgrade to a 2.1 eclair rom using teppics downgrade utility.
you then use unrevoked 3.21 (nothing higher or it will fail) to hard root the device.
you then flash a custom rom of choice and before booting flash one of the latest radios linked in the root tools sticky

either that or you try and repair the misc table by doing the usb brick fix ( even though you are not usb bricked)

Oh dear me, that usb brick route looks to complicated for me. From the previous posts it looks like reverting back to 2.1 or installing a HTC 2.3 from the website is my only couple of options.

If I did the update from the HTC website, the 2.3 gingerbread update, am I correct in thinking I could still then route with revolutionary if I can ever get it to work?

Oh god just had a phone call, have to pop out. Doing that much mucking about with this phone I've burned my pizza in the oven. LOL :) Will check back later for next try.

Cheers

you can still use revolutionary if you are on 2.3.3
dont know why you are getting beta key errors.
btw you can past into command prompt by right clicking the window or clicking on the little cmd icon on the top left of the window, clicking edit, click paste

ok i have now moved forward with rev. at this very moment it has moved on and eventually downloaded cw rec and it is now saying,

flashing recovery over fastboot

but has stopped there, ohh s---, what shall i do.

has been 5 mins now. will explain how i did it when i got this sorted.

interesting, you should explain anyway
if its flashing recovery over fastboot it means its already s-offed the device
are you in hboot atm?

hello pleased to hear from you.

i managed to copy and paste in your described manner. it kicked in. got to installing cwm and i entered y. i remembered reading your stickie saying not to after doing it but too late. anyhow it hung up before completeing. i exited the program and phone is still ok. i now have red evol sign, at top, in hboot.

i have been in recovery on phone but it only finds andriod recovery.

i have cwm from the link in your guide, version 2.5.0.7 but cannot understand your tut, involving prompts to install it. i have it on my desktop. is there an better way to install it on my sd card.

my sincere thanks you for sticking with me as i finally feel i am getting somewhere.

you have 2 methods of flashing recovery
fastboot: booting to fasboot then flashing by doing fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img (change recoveryname to whatever the recovery is)
or downloading androidflasher boot to fastboot and use the tool to flash

if you are unfamiliar with the fastboot method you should read our fastboot adb faq
androidflasher would be easiest if you dont know fastboot however i would still recommend you learn it even if you use androidflasher as im certain you will want to use it further down the line.

androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/337356-faq-adb-fastboot-windows-updated-1st-june-2011-a.html

That's fastboot link. You only need to follow the
second section "How to set up my windows pc to use adb and fastboot"

it's pretty quick (less than a minute) to flash the recovery file

By the way it sounds like you're s -off so getting there.

I spents days trying originally, but looking back it has allowed me to understand what is happening and I could now probably root any desire in under 5 mins.

You're almost there !

6) it' s time to install your recovery file.
a) Boot into fastboot mode (from off, volume-
up and power or volume- down and power then
cycle to fastboot option)
b) Connect phone to PC through USB. You
should see "FASTBOOT USB" on your phones
screen.
c) Open CMD (Start > Run > type "cmd" and
press enter)
d) Type "fastboot flash recovery c:\your
recovery file name" where c:\your recovery file
name is the exact location and name of the
recovery file you downloaded.
You should now have a S- OFF phone with a
custom recovery
ROOTING PROCESS
7) Now for rooting:
a) Boot into Hboot (from off, hold vol- down
and power) and choose "Recovery" from the
menu.
b) Choose "flash zip from SD card" or similar
from Recovery menu (use trackpad to navigate)
c) Choose the Root file you downloaded to your
SD card from the Revolutionary website.
d) Wait till it says it' s done, then choose to
reboot.

have downloaded andriod flasher, just to be quick for the moment. however its been running a while, 10 mins, so not sure if its working.

would like to put a ruu on tonight if i can.

hadron suggested this on further up the thread.

For an unbranded Froyo, the RUU RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe from Shipped ROMs should do the trick. If your goldcard is working you should be able to run that - if it fails with a cid error that means your goldcard isn't working.

would be happy with a unbranded 2.3 or cyanagen7 but perferably something where i dont have to change the radio. i think there are issues with this flasher or cwm download as its been running a while now.

can you point me at something suitable please.

cheers, lads.

have now got clockwork on my phone, wipee.

can you see post above and point me at a suitable ruu. please. got to be up early in the morning but would so much like to see this through.

will do a good write up of what i have struggled with that may help you on your boards.

clockwork now installed

have completed what you wrote. it is saying;

cant open/ sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
installation aborted.

i have not installed superuser as in your stickie, because it is already on phone. when i look inside sd card there is no ref to superuser. must be in phone memory. shall i try to delete it from phone then cut and paste your download one onto the sd card?. could this be a problem. dying to flash a ruu to the phone.

Note a RUU is an unrooted stock ROM, like what you get from HTC . Do not install that unless you want to loose root and s -off. You want a custom ROM .

If you have superuser you are already rooted.

To flash a custom rom, select from following link:

A good gingerbread sense rom with root to start with i s androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/388298-pre-rooted-gingerbread-stock.html

You wont have to change radio going from 2.2.

Tell me when you're not pushed for time, do you have Revolutionary pink label above your hboot info when you go into hboot mode?
