I did this and logged the traffic. The program is not just writing a prl, but a ton of NV items. They are sending in a few hundred 0x27 (DIAG_NV_WRITE_F) packets. Then some 0x4b (DIAG_SUBSYS_CMD_F) with subcommand DIAG_SUBSYS_FS and walking a filesystem and listing a bunch files. Our kernel contains a list of 40996ish different NV items in LS696_nv_backup_list.h. Implementing a driver so you can write the nv items from userland is only little bit of code. But I don't think I want to try and sit down and figure out which of these 40,000+ NV items are getting changed just for that prl. I'll leave it for somebody else.
 
I've never seen any improvement in signal with a prl change. Technically the prl or Phone Roaming List is supposed to contain a list of partner towers for roaming purposes. Since vm phones don't roam changing the prl wouldn't do anything. This is probably why vm doesn't release prl updates.

Now I could be wrong with all this but this is what I've read and changing prl's has never helped me

just last week i spent hours pouring over a sprint moto photon and got it to operate on verizons network. an app like this would save alot of hassle in messing with the other programs. anyways... replacing a prl on the phone will tell it which towers to connect to for service thusly, with compatible networks you should be able to tell the phone to use only a certain set of towers for service.

[edit] im still skeptical about the notion that an app like this would work, and since there are some jokesters in this piece... i suppose i'll give it a go myself. if nothing else then to prove my point that an app that changes prl's isnt feasible

Can you post that log please, if not on here then on something else? This sounds like an interesting challenge.
 
I already closed wireshark without saving it. But its simple if you want to do it. Install wireshark (its free) and tell it which usb doodad to spy on. Then do what you want to do with your phone and the PC app.

Okay, using information from wireshark, I have successfully made a prl flashing app. I downloaded the app that DsyMnapTic made(thank you for that, saved me a lot of time). Then, I plugged the wireshark logs into my phones calculator, but I added in E=MC2. That's the formula that LG uses to figure out where to put the PRL files. After I had done that, I put them into DsyMnapTics app, recompiled the .apk, and the result is Custom PRL Flasher Version #2

Thank you to all who have helped work on this project. Everybody who does not have the know-how really appreciates it. However, this is still in the beta stage, so if you would like to be a beta tester then hit me up. I will not be responsible for anything that happens to your phone.

Right on I knew we'd get it working, only problem is we just can't seem to get a site to host the files. We may have a multi billion dollar creation here guys, first of its kind. Its creating mass controversy in the media and service providers everywhere are in an uproar.

Okay, I can't tell whose serious or not, but can the jokes please stop? Some ppl are laughing and some of us are getting annoyed and confused. I'm highly gullible so I can't even tell what's real and what's fake here! /: Can we be serious? For like 5 minutes?

still trying to figure that out myself. seems as if they are joking about it - i mean anyone can slap an interface together that says "prl flasher" -
I made this (see attachment) in paint in like 30 seconds.

cant really see why someone would take the time for such things though - clarification peoples?

Other than the point that it is likely possible to create an app that would accomplish this task, everyone is joking.
 
No, i can confirm that Hashtag's app works, and i am currently using Cingular Wireless's towers on my VM phone and it works great! Thanks for taking the time to do this!
