When I made my post I was not speaking about the community as a whole. It gets annoying seeing individuals gripe about their purchase when they should've waited for more reviews of the device to come in before purchasing. As far as your rooted Android goes, good for you. Okay, I'm done here haha.

If it annoys you then dont read and go about your business else where or read a thread that tickles your fancy...by the looks of it you dont even have an android phone and your just adding your 2 cents where it isnt needed

What do you like about this phone over the X? Other than the obvious 4g part of the equation.

Actually haven't sold my X yet - the phone, not the person - as I'm not sure I'm loving the TB. I mainly miss root and the themes that go with it, I suppose. Was also very dissappointed that I couldn't do the 778 work-around on tethering. I've got marked on my calender the thirteenth day, just in case.

So you believe what your phone is telling you about its battery life when it has only had a day to figure out the battery's size and ability? Ignoring the nagging, you've run it to the point it shuts off how many times?

Battery meters are a best guess. They take days to be sort of right and never entirely are.

So yea, the battery is not amazing or oversized for the job. But hang on, let the data be gathered and then see how long you can go before the OS nags you based on what its guesser is reporting.

Yeah there should be no surprises with the Battery Bramsy. It mayu get better with some cycling. BUT in 6 months to a year it will probably get worse. I would just invest in a larger battery(I know it wont work with your mount but perhaps you can find a way) or as others have said live with the phone for awhile and maybe the mid day charging wont bother you after awhile.

i just bought this phone. and i can see that the percentage indicator is definitely not calibrated. driving back home, i plugged it in to charge it. the percentage indicator is showing 50% but the voltage is at 4.0v. 4.0v for lithium polymer/ion batteries is more like 85%.

once i got home, i plugged it to the charger. after about an hour charging, the percentage is showing 91% but the voltage is already 4.205v. lithium polymer/ion batteries can not go much over 4.2v which means this is 100%. they burn up when overcharged more than about 4.22v. obviously, a properly programmed device will never allow this to happen. now, after a few minutes the charging is at 93% but the voltage is 4.203v.

from my RC airplane hobby, here is the breakdown for lithium polymer batteries per cell:
4.00V--84%
3.96---77%
3.93---70%
3.90---63%
3.86---56%
3.83---48%
3.80---43%
3.76---35%
3.73---27%
3.70---21%
3.67---14%

it might be more useful to watch the voltages in the phone's battery rather than the percentage indicator.

So bramsy did you decide to take it back or not? I didnt see an actual answer on that anywhere. I took my evo back 2 days after i bought it, and just kept my upgrade for later. And then, even though i felt stupid as hell doing it, i went and bought it again...After reading how it got better after a week i thought id give it a chance. And im glad i did, it was fantastic after it "broke in".

I assume many people will do the same thing for the Thunderbolt

did a "bump" charge for the first time today and i was done with all that business at 3 p.m. i am sitting at 40% with about an hour of talk time, about 25 YouTube vids watched (in HD) about 50 texts, check email a half a dozen times (w/o sync on) and borrowed about 3 songs from the interwebs... oh yeah surfed for about 3 minutes on ESPN to see out wolverines WON!! its about 830 now...

ASSuming this keeps up i'll be sound as a flipping pound come 3.31 (which is return date)

I hope the TB ends up being better than the Incredible in terms of battery life.

I just played with it. Felt VERY solid, I didn't like the FFC (color cast was weird), but LTE was nuts and screen was beautiful (I have a Fascinate and love the contrast/colors but TB was sharper).

I just wish this thing was dual core and 4" screen. I may still get one, but not sure.

You said NOTHING about money management. I have never bought anything that I couldn't pay cash for, I know about money management. What you said was absolutely stupid and made no sense. If no one bought on day one because it's a stupid thing to do (which is what you inferred) and waited on other people to do it, then no one would own it.

I agree, if you don't have the money then don't buy, but saying its stupid to buy until someone else buys is exactly what I said it was, moronic.

I have very mixed feelings about the thunderbolt.

I've jumped on every flagship VZW android phone at launch. Droid, Incredible, DX, Fascinate, and now the Thunderbolt.

Pros: Phone runs amazingly smooth and fast. With ADW launcher it simply flies. The screen is also a positive for me, despite the low pixel density. The consistency of it is very nice. The kickstand is a solid plus too.

Cons: Laughable battery life, even by incredible standards. External speaker sucks unless kickstand is in use. Can't use kickstand while charging. Front and rear cameras are USELESS in low light without the flash. Many many many times worse than my DroidX or ipod touch - this is a huge oversight IMO. And worst of all, the phone is a cinder block. It is so much harder to hold than the droidx. Too fat, too short, too rounded. I've already dropped it once just sitting at my desk. I HATE the case design for this thing.


I really want this thing to replace my DX since it is so much faster. But the battery life, poor indoor camera, and crappy form factor mean i am almost certainly going to return it.

I got the blue silicone cover (its the firmer silicone case). Nice grip but smooth so it still slips into pocket...no peeling away from the screen...doesn't add much bulk. Now that I've been able to use the phone for the day, I'm very comfortable with the buy. Battery isn't as horrible as I feared, but maybe that's because I had an Incredible and I'm used to bad battery. Love the screen, camera is very good, and it's smooth. The bloatware IS out of control though! Can't wait to root this thing.

Oh yah, the kickstand sucks. I want to break it off. Can't even use it with the phone plugged in! Stupid.

ok, bump charge as i learned is... FULLY charging your battery, even when the battery shows full. i guess HTC has a bad history of this. its shows full, but unless u have a green FULL notification light, it really is not full.

HOW TO:
-charge phone to "max"...
-it's maxed when u see a GREEN notification light (solid i believe, on top where you get blinking notifications)
-if you have a full battery and the light is still ORANGE, it needs a bump...
-POWER OFF THE PHONE while still charging and let it finish its charge until you get a GREEN light.

once u power off awaiting the green light, i have no idea how much time is needed to get this full charge......

I personally missed sense. Love the 4g aspect as well. The bootloader isnt locked down on this phone either. The camera is better IMO. Plus you have to admit this phone is gorgeous.

this morning at 930 i unplugged after a full nights charge (light was green), then read your post and plugged back in and she is orange again!

help o wise one yankee.

what pattern of charging along with bump charging should i get used to and use? write me a charging manual if u have time pleeeeeeeeeeeeease

i bought the phone yesterday and charged it fully. i then did my thing on the phone and didn't charged it while i slept.

my usage:
display 55% 1 hour 51minutes
android systems 22%
cell standby 8%
phone idle 7%
voice calls 4% with a 4 minute call
Dolphin Browser Mini 2%
Android OS 2%

it has been on 4G the entire time. it has been 14 hours 19 minutes since last plugged in and there is still 24% left (3.717v). i used a total of about 200mb during this time as indicated by 3G Watchdog. i was going to wait till it shuts off from low battery but i need to charge the phone now as i might have to get out of the house in a few hours.

I have been having the same experience as Bramsy, but I am reading about people having great battery life and are using the phone way more than I have. Could it be that some batteries are defective? How can everyone be having such different experiences with their batteries?

This is my first sense UI phone. (Came from OG Droid and then X) Sense It's silky smooth, great presentation, plenty of customization right from the get go. I'm not saying the TB is leaps and bounds over the X. But let me put it this way, I just prepped my X so it can go to ebay e.g. Factory Reset, Wipe all Data Wipe SD card etc etc...With everything removed the X's UI feels archaic compared to the TB, very choppy, not smooth. On Wi-fi my X was fast...the TB (same home wifi) is hyperfast...
