I set this as my default launcher. But how can I change to other launchers to compare them? When I hit the home button now it doesn't give me the option of the other launchers.

Download Home Switcher from the market, works perfect

Install Home Switcher from the Market. Gives you the option to launch and set different home apps as default without having to go thru the menu every time.

Liking the few upgrades with 0.7.7 so far... like the custom hilight color... also like the transparency on the app drawer... background showing through is cool.

Yea i like the transparency too, I have my alpha set to 0 and it runs smooth

What does the "alpha" setting do? I have set mine at 100 and at 0 and can't tell a difference?

Edit**
Ah, nevermind... duh... hit back instead of hitting the center of the circle.

That is pretty sweet. set to zero ...

Well after using my phone with the ADW launcher over the weekend i am without a doubt very impressed. Very little lag with using the interface. Has YET to crash on me. HTC Sense would have already crashed about 10x by now. I have been able to find adequate, or better, replacements for the HTC Widgets i previously used, which weren't that many really.

Home+ was lagging worse than Sense, so was SweeterHome (even worse), Haven't yet tried LauncherPro but so far ADW has convinced me that HTC Sense is truly garbage. Now just got to start removing what I can of Sense without breaking whatever apps I use that are linked to it. Then make a nice full backup of the ROM :)

Now just have to convince my wife, who is ready to throw her Eris under the car wheel, to give it a try. Might be that Eris's saving grace ;)

Very good analysis :)

Ok, I used it for a week and noticed significant battery drain. I removed it two days ago to validate and my battery ( 1750) is back to lasting more than a full day. I really liked it but I cannot deal with the battery drain. I could never pinpoint it with the battery usage widget but it was the only thing that I changed in a 7 day period.

Hmm... My Battery life skyrocketed when I started using ADW. Went from charging in the middle of the day to charging once a day if I feel like it (just to top it off)

OK, I guess I'm a real NOOB. I can't find it on market right now and when I download the apk file from the developer's website, I can't figure out how to install it. Astro file manager is not able to install it and the developer mentions installing onto the sd card and rebooting in recover mode - now I am lost. Also, is it easy to go back to HTC sense if this is instaled?
Can someone give a brief installation tutorial?
Thank you!

Ok, from the home screen: Menu> Settings> Applications > Select "Unknown Sources" Hit "OK" on the popup. Back out of your settings menu.

Go to Astro and find the Blue ADW.Launcher icon in whichever folder you have it saved it and click it then >Open App Manager>Install.

After that, ADW is installed but you need to clear your defaults from sense so you can switch to your new launcher. From your home screen go: Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications (Wait for it to load all the way and find "HTC Sense" with the flip calendar widget next to it and click on it.). Scroll down to where it says "Launch By Default" and click "Clear Defaults".

Now back out back to your home screen and remove any widgets.... and hit the "home" button. It will give you a popup. Click on ADW.

You can set ADW to default and it will run from startup or you can leave no default launcher incase you decide to switch back and forth but in that case I would suggest an app called "Home Switcher"

Almost forgot... after you are done installing and such, go back and deselect "unknown sources" in your applications settings menu.

I don't get the little red message counters on my messages or mail app icons anymore with ADW -- does anyone?
