All Things Froyo

Out of curiosity, why'd you have to switch back to stock 2.1?
My phone dropped calls left and right and got a wierd noise inside like something was popping. It pisses me off and the caller when I have to call them back 2 or 3 times in an hour.

Is there a good video link on how to root the phone first?

Make sure you watch all three videos. Videos also explains which apps are best to use. Please note, the video is installing "Cognition ROM" but this same installation can be used for any ROM you wish to use.

There are many ROM's to choose from. This vedio shows how to flash back to Eclair 2.1 (basic Android ROM). Learn how to do this and you can try several different ROM's My present ROM is Phoenix 2.2.1 v4.1 using kernel k12q-500hz

Visited my local AT&T store today to ask about the 2.2 update. The person that met me at the door had no idea what android 2.2 was. Same thing for the next person. The third person kinda knew what I was talking about and said she would look into it on the computer. After a few minutes of searching, she asked if I meant android 2.0.....I managed to keep my mouth shut and asked to speak to their tech guy. He knew exactly what I was talking about. He claimed that the 2.2 that they had been testing in the field had major security issues that was making personal info openly available and that a fix was in the works. He said that he has heard a month at the earliest, more than likely 2-3 months to get it all fixed.

Not sure how reliable all of this info is, just thought I would share it since it is the first I have heard about security issues.

PS. I asked if this would effect the release of the Atrix 4G.....he claimed it would delay it until fixed

Now this is something I can see on their part...don't know if I can ever believe them due to past posts on this issue, but this does sound..."plausiable"

So is the security issue with the AT&T crapware or Samsung? Because I don't think Android 2.2 itself has a major security problem. We would certainly hear about it.

My thoughts exactly - it's an AT&T problem with the malarkey they load onto the phone.

Hmmm...it's starting to look likely that I may bite the bullet and try to put Paragon on my phone. Sill so paranoid......

IMO this whole thing with 2.2 upgrade has become an obsession. I'm really not sure what 2.2 brings to the table other than mobile AP and voice dialing-both of which I can personally do without. Furthermore the ATT version of 2.2 will probably be less than desirable....I'm of the mind if 2.2 becomes something to really hanker for-flash a ROM. Andromeda seems to look pretty good right now as it has been said to use the armani code

Overall, 2.2 is just faster. I have a friend with an original Droid and he has updated his phone from 2.0 to 2.0.1 to 2.1 to 2.2. Of all of the versions, he said 2.1 was the slowest. Other reasons people are waiting for the 2.2 update for the Captivate is the hope that the GPS is finally fixed.

I am using the Paragon RC4 ROM running Android 2.2.1 and I am loving it. My phone is so incredibly fast that when I was demonstrating it to a friend, it looked like it was as fast as the iPhone commercials that Apple faked and then were banned in the UK. Of course, I was on Wifi at the time, but I made sure to explain that to my friend. He was just impressed with how fast the UI was altogether.

Also, with Paragon, I have Bluetooth voice dialing and my GPS is fixed, but the best thing about this ROM is that my battery life is amazing. I no longer have to carry a wall charger with me to work.

I think a good rule of thumb to figure the release date is this,

Whatever month you find yourself asking "when will froyo be released?" Just add 2 months. (ex in jan=march release, feb=april release, etc)

Once the Galaxy S2 is released, the guys at XDA will have something to work with. Then we will have something close to an "official" update.

Yesterday @ AT&T store I spoke to few persons which were talking about almost same date (April/May). After that I have small "conversation" on Twitter:

"@GalaxySsupport Also I was today @ AT&T store and they told me that Froyo will come 2-3 months from now due to issues. It is a long delay."

@_scyzor Thanks Adam. We have not been informed of this timeline. ^Mary

@GalaxySsupport so why AT&T sale persons are talking about that delay time range? Does Samsung cuts off from that statement?

and no response on that
