So when the official update is out, the phone will be set back to stock for everything? Nothing will be saved?
So, unless I've missed it posted elsewhere, there's no indication after having read the Froyo release notes that anything GPS-related has been addressed. This, then, officially points to GPS wonkiness being a chip issue. Am I late to this particular party as I have not scoured the GPS sticky? Is this deduction old hat?
My intent is not to post "stuff" belonging in the GPS sticky, but rather to raise a Froyo-specific thought.
Would saving contacts to Sim card be enough during the update process?
On the google cache page it says:
Notice: Please back up all data such as your contacts, pictures, music, videos etc... prior to performing the update as data could be lost
It doesn't seem to say it does a full wipe or not. But def back up just in case.
Personally - I'm a belt and suspenders guy when it comes to this stuff.
I back stuff up to the sim card, back up the sim card to the PC, and then back up anything I can to the Google cloud.
That's fine. Athough I'm getting ahead of the issue, when you do flash, I recommend removing the SIM card if the Kies process permits. I always do this when flashing a custom ROM since I don't want an incoming phone call to create havoc. Yikes!
I will definitely remember to do that. I am sitting on the fence on what to do, regarding waiting or flashing a custom rom. I just read some many different things on the web that it makes it difficult to decide what is right for me.
If I may offer a suggestion. I would upgrade to the official Froyo and see how you feel about the results. If it "works" for you, let it be. To do otherwise may be asking for unnecessary trouble as flashing custom ROMs is not something to be taken lightly.

I believe that is the route I'm going to take. I will sit and wait. It's getting frustrating though since new apps in the market that I want need 2.2. Hopefully my patience will be rewarded.![]()
This has been a trying day! I can feel it though, I can feel it!
I hope you're using a screen protector.

"@wilblak Hi William. We are preparing for the froyo update, but we unfortunately do not have an ETA. ^Mary"
This is in regards to the site posting that froyo was released.
For those of you wondering what we're talking about regarding the "update support pages"
Samsung has official web pages (place holders until official update comes) that indicate how to update to froyo. The fact that they've "popped up" all of a sudden with dates of 2/15 and 2/16 is a good sign they are testing the support page to prepare for the update (next week?).
This is the captivate page:
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=559&AT_ID=356772
This is the Epic 4G page:
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=559&AT_ID=356773
Notice the end of the links differ by just one digit. "2" is for the captivate. "3" is for the Epic. "4" is some Galaxy Tab warning about foreign firmware etc etc. So keep your eye out on those "2" and "3" links to see if they come up again soon![]()
