All Things Froyo

I know as soon as I work up the nerve to put a custom 2.2 build on my Captivate (or convince a tech savvy friend to do it for me), the official OTA will come out.

@Serendipity users: do you have to flash the original 5.1 and install each update one by one?

Edit: I think I answered my own question..the latest 5.11 file is available on the first page of the serendepity site..so I suppose that is what to use

Correct. After you flash the full 5.11 (140 megs), any incrementals (5.12, 5.13, etc.) can be done quickly and easily but they must be in sequence. For example, if you flash 5.11 then go to Siberia for vacation for a couple of weeks, return to find 5.13 available you'd flash 5.12 first then 5.13.

really dude, you can do it;) its not crazy like it used to be i have flashed my phone 50 times its cake follow the video

[GUIDE] How to Install a custom ROM *NOW WITH VIDEOS* - xda-developers

easy peesy:D

This is the problem I have, I don't mind flashing a rom now and then but it seems as if the revisions are so frequent that one would be constantly flashing the newest version. I am sure that I am capable, but this being my primary phone both mobile and home, I am not willing to risk down time. Also I don't want the hassle of dealing with the bugs as they are worked out over time.

The revisions (at least for Serendipity) take one or two minutes to flash. A real breeze. And they typically address minor issues like UI tweaks, rather than show-stoppers.

Now that that's out of the way, your concern about down time is understandable. That's why I would recommend anyone flashing for the first time do it on a week-end to give them more time to work things out if they don't go smoothly. Also, I'd have a Plan B, in this case a spare phone to use just in case.

Well, Epic 4G got the update last night. Who's next?

Info on the forums indicate that the updates haven't been totally successful, with battery and lag issues being reported. AT&T might be looking at how it goes for Sprint and Verizone before they make the plunge.

I find it amazing that a corporation that makes it's fortune in the communications industry does not understand the need to communicate with its customers. :(

Jesus, if they spent months testing the phone, don't you think they could have at least fixed the major problems? I have no problem waiting for updates if I know A) When to expect it (roughly), B) that it will solve issues and ideally bring about only one or two minor bugs, and C) the update makes the phone better.

The capability disabling tweaks they threw in are causing problems - imagine that? Really, this just makes me even happier to have freed myself from both AT&T and Samsung.

I've only had my phone a couple of months, but I'm getting a bit sick of the drama. I'm thiniking I'll give it to the first of March (or the first weekend in March I can devote time to it), and they I'm gonna bite the bullet and and flash Paragon. I'm still nervous about it, but I figure if I can add memory or a hard drive to a desktop, or reinstall an OS, I should be able to do this, right?

Thats probably not the issue..the issues begin once it is flashed..updates..little niggling bugs...but it's probably worth it
