Root [ALPHA] ICS for Optimus M (NOW COMPILED AND BOOTING)

Don't forget to try BACKside, v0.7.......its not in the OP (still needing Primed to update it), look at the newer posts for it, but read the OP. :)

And idk about you, but BobZ new CM7 is giving me issues.

Thanks Sammyz for the suggestion, but to let you know, I'm running the BACKside Rom v0.7 at the moment and to tell you the truth its pretty damn good. Although I can't confirm about making calls, SMS and MMS since I'm using it as a media device since I got my LG Esteem. Yet I still like the OM a lot, its a very nice phone and with so many people working on it, its even better, the support for this phone its great. I do use google voice for texting (while on wifi). Everthing else seems to work great, love all the extras from the BACKside ROM, great job guys. Again I'm running this on my wife's guini pig (lol) OM. I tried the Bobz ROM long time ago but never work quiet well for me, the best ROM for my OM still is Reppard's ROM and for my wife's OM was PlayfulGod until I installed the BACKside, thanks for that. On my wife's OM I have backups for the following ROMs: Stock, PlayfulGod CM7, Reppard CM7.1, MIUI ROM, BACKside ROM and the Theme ICS. Once again thanks for the hard work. Now, just waiting for the real ICS.:D

Ha there's not enuff devs attacking this .we need feedback that will make progression
seeing that there was a minor kernal change from froyo to gb i can only say we look at the open source Open Source Detail
Open Source Detail (1st link is for lg optimus c) reason for me posting this is becuz everything is extracted theres no boot.img and we can see a better layout of how froyo was when i get a chance i will get a gb version from cm7. Hopefully if lg releases a official ics rom for any of there phones we can do some major file pulling. I honestly think this is possible but i will never bte easy if can use dsixda kitchen we can port the other i.c.s 4.0 roms from other roms

you dont use AK to port ROMs, you start from src n build it up n compile it. ;)

I do know that BobZhome has been working on ICS for the Optimus V excessively, I quit a while back with trying to fix kernel because of school. During summer break I'll try rebuilding it again.

Hello all, so today i attempted to get all this up on github, however here is my problem. The only booting version of this ROM was compiled on VM using ubuntu 11.10, and after many errors i finally got it to compile fully without an error, this required changing many things in 11.10, and editing many AOSP files. I then Installed 10.04 on a seperate drive to dual boot, so i could fully use my resources. Re-Synced and copied over my changes.. However, once in 10.04 although i didnt have any errors in compiling, each rom i compiled didnt boot. So i continued development in VM to try many differant things to get the touchscreen working. the files in the OP are the correct files from my 11.10 builds that booted. So i tried to jump into VM today to get everyrthing up on github for you all, and alas, i cannot access my VM, it sees it, but will not load it, says inaccessible. i spent the last 3 hours googling and trying everything i can to access it, but to no avail.. i have not givin up, but its looking grim for being able to get this all up on github. Sorry, but i am working on it.

starting from scratch on this project. just did a clean install of ubuntu on my new system, syncing now, should be done by the time i get home from work. only really have about an hour a day to work on this but i will be commiting changes to github. going to do it right this time. soon as i have a booting rom i will sync with github

Idk if the source is available, but on the optimus v they have cold as ice by the kraven and it boots on the optimus m (touchscreen wont work at all), but it doesn't boot if I use the boot.img from this ics,

I figured out how to fix simple taps (on this ICS) by messing with the synaptics driver, I'll share the old and new code as soon as I get on my laptop and you can compare it on a text compare website

Lol sorry it was meant to be a placeholder but I forgot.

Anyways there seems to be a mostly working port of ICS to the Opitmus V and S. Alot things are buggy it seems but alot things work as well.

edit I saw that you are on that thread Sammy
Yea, I'm running it on my optimus v, it's nice and stable.
I can't port ICS to the M, and the one on the OV is not a port. It is built from source.

so i havent got everything quite going yet.. have source, have mos tof the files in place, havent compiled a booting rom yet.. but working on it, just had a thought though.. lol.. by the time we get this running on our phones.. jellybean will be out.. heh

a stepping stone to JB :3

You also must understand that ICS is a whole new monster. The android operating system relies on the touchscreen driver that is built in the kernel. The update from Froyo to GB wasn't major. However, the whole framework for ICS was re-written, and the old drivers needed to be updated in some places to add BTN_TOUCH and ABS_PRESSURE because that's what ICS looks for when input is detected. That's why the kernel needs to be updated.
Froyo = version 2.2
Gingerbread = version 2.3
Ice Cream Sandwich = version 4.0
Jellybean = version 4.1

I'm just reinforcing your point. The change from ICS to Jellybean is going to be the same as Froyo to Gingerbread: only minor fixes are being made. If we ever get ICS on these phones, we'll probably get Jellybean on it as well depending on the minor changes.

You are correct. I was in the middle of this same discussion on androidcentral in the optimus v forum.

@tripdoc, JB will be released sometime this month. Why don't you work with BobZhome on this?? He's also working on ICS. I've been testing....he got everything working (not sure about wifi) but calling works, touchscreen doesn't, and the launcher "trebuchet" fails also. I think if you work with him you guys can get this done ;)

I wish joneidy still had an OM, he said he would help if he had a working OM, he pernanently bricked his..

ok, so after downloading the 2 kernels with ics source from lg, and taking a look at the driver files, they are completely different than everything ive seen so far.. just may possibly work... going to work on this this week.. see if i can make any progress on the kernel

could you send me the links to the source for those kernels, my environment should be up and running here pretty soon. stuck working at night because i have three little ones that keep me pretty busy during the day.

thank you,
