am i rooted??

Yes, the 110 error has been an issue recently, but it's certainly not a LOT of people having the issue, and it seems to have been fixed (or hasn't been happening) recently.

It shouldn't make a difference WHEN it was downloaded, it's the same program regardless.

yah bro...i gotcha...but the sh#t thing is...it happened to me. i sold all this music gear to get this damn phone and i broke it - and i'm broke. i've tried every fix, and none work. thankfully the fastboot works, so i'll just use that until i can sell something else on craigslist - then i'm gonna take your advice and use a hammer on this POS and get a new one through my insurance. that's about the only fix i have left to try.

Dude if I was in North Carolina I would drive to your house and fix it for you lol...

but I'm in Northern California so there's no way I can help you lol.

You did something wrong along the way ....we gave you the right stuff to root/unroot/remove apps, etc...

you didn't follow through....don't worry though...your phone is not bricked..it's fixable...

Lol..There isn't much to read, and it is better then him or anyone repeating it all over again.

Long story short, he still couldn't get the apps to remove. I walked him through doing it manually, still no luck. No luck with either kitchen version. He decided to RUU and re-root manually. RUU failed and now his phone is semi-bricked. I have sent him several links on limited work arounds...

yes you did...and i highly appreciate your time today man. but as you can see by my entry above. i'm done. all this cause i effen hate nascar and football. sheesh.

I wouldn't expect insurance to cover a hammer blow...just to point that out (not to mention it's fraud...but that's beside the point)

man, i wish bro...serious. i'm so freaking bummed. i'm good with computers too. i built both mine, but somehow (i think i jumped too early) i really F'd this one up. i have tried another dl of RUU and again with error 110. i'm just fastbooting and riding around with my car charger until i get some cash man. i'll sell this piece when i get another - to someone who can fix it. you guys have been cool up on here...but i'm out of patience. and my computer's slowing down from all the android stuff i've put on it. lol

look, i don't know what i'm doing sure...but i followed everything right doing the RUU...and it bricked my phone. error 110. look it up, there's a lot of people having trouble with it. when did you last download RUU and use it?

There is a fix for 110 error at xda, maybe you should give it a try.

if you don't have SU access..then I don't think you was rooted to begin with.....

give it a shot again ...take your time reading all the steps..don't rush into it..

Well I wish you luck with everything and if by some slight chance you get it fixed, awesome. If not, well, then it wasn't meant to be :).

I'm pretty convinced something messed up during the root process, but I'm not sure what. I did notice that you mentioned something about the new kitchen telling you the OS wasn't right. Did you ever end up asking flipz about that?

appreciate that man... i posted the wierd link thingy he (flipz) asked for on his site. sorry i forget what they're called - long day. and also, i agree. i don't think the root did its thing correctly, even though it showed the green lettering...something wasn't right. i'll try rooting again in a week maybe. when i get the patience to sit down and do this all over. if not, oh well...

jeffrey don't give up on your phone...you can still fix it...don't be a sore loser...

did you follow the steps to fix your 110 Error RUU from the XDA site?

110 Error RUU 1.56 Fix - 100% unroot too! - xda-developers

The 2nd post works...I fixed my friends Bricked Hero with it..

i thought i'd give it one last try... check it out. i followed these commands per the fix above and the end result was "cannot create su: read only file system".

how can i do a screen shot to post my dos commands?

any thoughts? do you think that it was never rooted and when i tried to flash back to RUU it got jacked up?

That is a possibility.

As far as screen shots, once you create one and save it, you'll need to host it somewhere or upload it to a site like photobucket or similar. Then you can post that link here.

You should become a member on XDA Forums ...

trust me..I've learned so much from those guys there...

I think you are pretty close on fixing your problem...but those guys at XDA might have better answers for you ..

hey dude...

this will conclude pretty much everything in this message. after this, i'm sure it will work its way to the back of these threads.

1st
i have fixed my phone...it is now stock sprint htc hero, good as new - and i am happy. i still hate nascar and football and all the other crap apps sprint puts on our phones. if it weren't for them, i would've never rooted in the first place. i am not a 'power user' and don't need a sh-t ton of apps. i simply wanted to clear my phone of garbage the way i do my computers.

2nd
something went wrong when i rooted my phone. some can say user error, etc. but i will say, i know i followed things to a T and i used 'auto root kitchen.' despite this i was not able to do the things i should've been able to do with a rooted phone -- even with all the help people here have given me.

C
the RUU in this link DID NOT WORK FOR ME! it corrupted my phone... initially rooting did not. the RUU did!!! THAT IS A FACT. good luck if you wish to unroot your phones with the simple directions in the sticky...i really do hope anyone out there gets better results than i did.

someone helped me fix my phone. he is a bad ass, and as i watched him go through every command, every error, and bit of code...i realized that there is no way the written commands/codes online would've fixed my phone. there's nothing i could've possibly gathered online that would've done what he did.

everyone one here has been very nice, and i appreciate the time, knowledge, and patience. however...due to my lack of understanding (fully) i will say that i'm done messing with my phone.

PS
the RUU in the "all things root (sprint hero) is FUCT UP. i don't care if it's worked for some. something about it is not right.

thanks to all, and i look forward to forums about stupid questions like -- how do i get my voicemail to not vibrate when i get notifications?

later...

i'm going to play left4dead2

I'm not sure to root my device :(

i'm definitely not an expert, as you can see by all my posts in this thread...far from it actually. but i will tell you this - ask yourself, why do you want to root your phone? if you really have a good reason...then go for it. but keep in mind all the problems that could arise from doing so. some people have no issues and catch on to the process quickly - but there's always the people like me.

in NO way was it worth the trouble in my case.

It took me almost 3 weeks to read everything before rooting my Hero ..

even when I decided to root, Android Forums was the 1st place I came for help...then I moved onto XDA once I knew how to use the SDK with command prompt...

I don't feel like I'm savvy at it, but I learned everything I know through reading through threads before doing anything to my phone...

If you jump on things right away, don't expect everything to work right away..

well, i took another go at it...with the help of someone, and i've finally rooted and updated to FreshROM 1.1. i have to say, it was worth the trouble i went through. FreshROM 1.1 is sooooo much better than stock sprint. not only is all the bloatware gone, but its 3x as fast. i'm glad i was able to do this finally.

is your phone back to stock rom with no issues? if so, i'd say leave it and do some more reading, maybe make friends with somone on here. maybe they can help you. i would, but i am not experienced enough... dude, i know you're not going to go and read through this whole thread, but i started it due to some rooting issues i had then i semi bricked my phone when i tried to flash back to stock. i could only start it by fastbooting it. basically i'd have to go through the msdos command prompts if the phone ever powered down. trust me, i know ALL about the frustration man.

Ohhh no, I've never even rooted my phone before. Last night was my first attempt and I'm extremely impatient so basically my first sign of trouble was when I got permission denied on attempting to flash the recovery img.. I said eff that noise and just quit lol
