AMOLED vs. LCD Screens

Which works better when trying to root the phone?

It no longer matters which you have. Its always been equally feasible to root both types but until recently, Clockwork mod wasn't compatible with slcd units. Due to a recent update that is no longer the case. Both types are good now.

I was thinking of utilizing my warranty to resolve an annoying power button issue. i currently have a amoled inc. im assuming the replacement would be slcd. i was just curious as to what is lost and what is gained. i have read the articles comparing the two but i want to know if i should just live with my current minor annoyance to keep the amoled

I've got an SLCD, never used an Amoled. The only issue I have is, with my sunglasses on and the phone in turned to a landscape orientation, the screen goes total black. Turn it upright and can see it fine, take my glasses off, see it fine. My wife dosn't have this issue with her glasses, I think it has something to do with polarized sunglasses.

This really sucks too, because the car mount I bought will only fit the Incredible in a landscape position, upright the power cord gets in the way. So i have to constantly push my glasses up to see the screen in the daytime.

if you have an AMOLED you will get an AMOLED and if you have an SLCD you will get an SLCD... or this is how i understand it after reading some posts on the forum

I just got an AMOLED replacement for my original AMOLED phone last week. I'm guessing you could request an SLCD replacement, if you wanted. The only exception is if you got a replacement out of a store's inventory. But they'd only do that in an emergency (your phone is dead) AND you convince them to.

LCDs Polarize light, which is causing your problem.

from verizon or from assurion? verizon tells me all they can get me is an lcd, and i prefer my amoled screen.

Those of you that can't see the differences, all you need to do is turn down the screen brightness and they become immediately apparent... I hate the SLCD... Eveything has a very pink hue if you don't run full brightness...

This pink hue can also be seen on some AMOLED Dinc's when the brightness is turned down. Some are worse than others. I have a co-worker who has a Droid Eris and I noticed some pink hue. I'm beginning to think this is just how HTC sets its color temperature on its displays. iPhone displays seem to have more of a blueish hue.

i had to replace my lcd recently so if i got this correctly.. if its made by samsung its a amoled and if by sony its a slcd?

Hmm it seems I got a amoled replacement in that case. It doesn't seem exactly the same as my old screen though and my hardware version is 002

i just picked up my incredible used, and am wondering how i can tell if its got the AMOLED or the SCLD screen?

after some searching i found the last post in this thread: http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/264276-new-incredible.html#post2181425 wich is good info, but when i look underneath the battery what i have is simply ADR6300VW. no 2 or 3

ive rooted the phone and plan to try out several different ROMs,so knowing what screen i have is of somewhat importance.

thanks for any info :)

You can also tell by turning on the screen in really a dark room and displaying an image with a lot of black. If the screen stays absolutely pitch black in the black parts of the image, you've got AMOLED. If you can see light bleeding through the black part of the image, that's SCLD.

Short answer: AMOLED will have a series of dots on the screen when held in the light.

AMOLED is also better.

While that is true, so does SLCD.

The way to tell is the version number (as has been said in this forum many times before). v3 is SLCD. Before that is AMOLED.

Also, AMOLED in not inherently superior to SLCD. They each have their drawbacks/strengths. granted, I do llike AMOLED more, I think on a phone SLCD is better for the slightly better viewing in direct light.

And the SLCD does a far better job with text (thanks to the subpentile matrix Samsung uses, which makes it blocky on the AMOLED). And SLCD provides truer colors, while the AMOLED more vivid/saturated. And AMOLED has a far better contrast.
