Root Amon ra recovery installation question

and when I open the E driive (Evo drive) I've got a bunch of folders and then a few files out of folders. You say very top level of my sdcard. If I drop it at ther very top level, where exactly would I drop it? not inside the scard folder....

Right not in a folder when you open the drive on windows it should show

I updated and out of curiousity I went into RECOVERY
and at the bottom it reads the following.....

Build: RA-supersonic v2.3

?
;)

delete the PC36IMG.zip file when done?

Thanks, I re read the earlier posts and found the answer myself.....

ALL you need to do is download the amon ra 2.3 recovery ZIP, name it PC36IMG and place it on the root of your SD card. There should only be one file with that name on your SD card at one time and you should also rename it when you are done so that hboot doesn't update every time.

YAY!!!!!! success!!! way to go matt :) sidenote: please dont be offended or pissed or whatever, but it is kinda funny watching you get enervated

and yes delete it, or move it elsewhere in your card, or rename it. if you dont, every time you go into hboot, itll try n update from that zip file.hboot automatically looks for pc36img files to update from, and its unnecessary to do it every time you go to hboot once youve got amon_ra installed

Good job getting this working, guys :). I have a few comments:

1) Just in case there was some confusion by what was said earlier, flashing PC36IMG.zip files is *not* even remotely the same as flashing in recovery. It has nothing to do with it. There is no script in a PC36IMG.zip files that tells it what to do. It's simply a group of .img files that will overwrite internal partitions based on their name, and a txt file that has some information about the phone (to make sure you're flashing on the right phone). A recovery zip will have a group of files (from one file up to an entire bootable system) and a script that tells recovery what to do with the files (along with other instructions, such as formatting file systems, or even running other shell scripts).

2) I think there was some confusion by the fact that when you flash recovery via PC36IMG.zip, it flashes very quickly. You'd have gotten some errors if it didn't work. If you got as far as the question whether or not to flash, it likely worked at that point. The only way to know if it worked is to actually go to recovery and verify you have whatever you flashed. Perhaps I should add that to the thread :).

3) The "which" command is used to find executables (binaries, scripts, etc.) that the terminal can find by looking at your $PATH environment variable. If you go to the terminal, and type "echo $PATH", you'll see a string with a colon separated list of paths. Inside those paths will be all the binaries, scripts, etc., that you can run from the terminal without giving it a full path. For example, you can type flash_image without a full path to it because the path to it is in $PATH. If it wasn't, you'd have to type the full path to it to execute it. The point of running "which flash_image" is to verify you either:

a) have it, or
b) have it accessible in a path in $PATH

The normal installation for it is in a path that's in $PATH, so the point was more to verify that you had it, period. Thing is, unless you're on a ROM that includes it, you likely don't have it, which is why it's provided in that thread for those who want it. Now, from what I've gathered from this thread, you were getting an error that "which" didn't exist. That doesn't mean flash_image didn't exist (though it sounds like it didn't). It means that busybox isn't installed. If you're on a stock ROM, and haven't purposefully installed it, you won't have it. If you've installed it via titanium backup, you won't have it accessible in the terminal. TB can use busybox from other locations, but if you install its version, it goes somewhere where the terminal won't see it.

As akazabam aptly observed, it was overlooked to verify whether or not
the update was actually installed or not. I only realized this afterwards.Chances are
it was installed much earlier.

Oh well, it was quite the ride and it's good to be a success story compared to so many other threads that seem to fizzle for one reason or another.

Thanks again.

Satisfied:)
