Root Amon ra recovery installation question

in te I have first the

"$" sign
and then after running a command the
"#" sign.

I am sure there's only one shell on this emulator.
Isn't the command prompt supposed to stay the same?

I'm not making this stuff up!

I updated when prompted with the new file....

Maybe I'm the problem here.....

:(

TE should change from $ to # if you have su, forgot to tell you to type su and enter before typing any commands

did you flash that file in recovery? FLash_image-signed.zip

I did. I am now downloading a ROM manager ( ClockworkMod - FREE)
and will see what I can do with that. Is this an OK approach?

I dont suggest rom manager, kinda buggy. I suggest doing it manually. Also it wont work with amon ra anyhow.

OK now that you flashed that when you punch in (su first, enter) which flash_image does it give you a bin? it should if it does grab that recovery.img for whatever recovery you were working on, either pull it out of the zip or dl the one from xda and put it on the root of the sd card named recovery.img

then punch this is terminal
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

something really odd here with regards to my "flashing".

I am new to flashing so please LOL if you'd like - but when I
think of "flashing" all I do is press volume down + power and wait for
the phone to go to the hboot screen.

It asks me if I want to update, I press volume up for yes and then
it's done.

Is this right to do for flashing procedure?

THat is correct for flashing a PC36IMG.zip, for flashing other files it is done in recovery usually by selecting flash from sd card then selecting the file. We are flashing this .img from terminal emulator currently though that why you flashed that flash_image.zip file....did you go to recovery and select flash zip from sd card and then select that zip? If you still have a pc36img file on your root it will look for it everytime...rename that to something else so it stops updating. In hboot is your s-off?

That's it. I haven't been going into RECOVERY to FLASH.

That is the root of this whole problem.

Sorry about that.

I am now in RECOVERY and will select the Amon ra zip file, correct?
:o

I don't get it now...

I flashed which flash image in RECOVERY and ran it in te with same result. It's
the free te version....

Nope lol recovery files are different because you can't change recovery while in recovery. That's why I had you doing it from te or hboot

Ok...flash_image.zip should be flashed in recovery. If it succeeded go to te then do this exactly

Su
Which flash_image

Should come back with a bin...

from RECOVERY ( which flash_image) what now

Refer back to te or is too late

Ok you flashed the flashimage.zip? Boot back up and go to terminal emulator and run

Su
Which flash_image

If it comes back with a bin its just a matter of a simple command to flash the recovery.img

If you have s-off go here
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html
It has instructions and needed files, maybe it can help

I have gone through that, thank you very much.

I hope this next question won't cause you to fall of your chair:)

I discovered the PC36IMG.zip file was corrupt. I went into te and removed it.

I need to find another PC36IMG.zip file to put on my sdcard.

From the link you provided, I downloaded

PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip

The following from the link states the following:

Extract recovery.img from the PC36IMG.zip for the recovery you want
5) Copy recovery.img to the root of your sdcard
6) From the terminal type:

su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

QUESTION: do I need to find a non-corrupted PC36IMG.zip to carry out the above?

Answer: OF COURSE!!!???

OK, where do I get one that's not corrupted???!!!

OK if you want to install this through Terminal you will pull the recovery.img file right out of that zip you just downloaded

If you want to flash through hboot just rename that file to PC36IMG.zip and go to hboot it and let it update.

I did exactly as you said. I even tried both methods.

In te, I got permission denied ( even though Terminlal is su allowed)

After updating through hboot, Which not found....

you typed su then hit enter before running any te commands?

do you have the super user app? is te enabled in there?

bud this should be working, it has to be some sort of small syntax error or naming errors, you have su access, you have s-off, te is working, the download from the link i gave you i know is good i used it myself....

ill try one more time...

Dowload this file. Rename the file PC36IMG EXACTLY and place it on the very top level of your sd card, boot to hboot, vol-down power, update yes...if it fails im at a loss, Dont do anything else to it, dont pull the img dont run te, just do dl, place, rename, boot...I cant be any more clear...if it fails someone else will have to come by because i have no idea what is up and i apologize for the run around...:(
