i hope that it will be very soon. I feel like it isnt worth rooting my phone because of how close the new 2.1 update is.

... a rooted phone has OTA blocked.

<Buzzer Sound>

Wrong answer. Thank you for playing. We have some lovely parting gifts for you.

Do you know how I can check my rom to see if OTA is turned off?

If the file "otacerts.zip" still resides in the /system/etc/security directory (or hasn't been renamed), you will receive an OTA update notification. Unless, of course, you have already forced the updated before VZW gets to your phone.

more than half this thread has posts with questions that were answered previously...usually more than once. hahaha I just find that hilarious. The place to go for "updates" on our 2.1, go to motorola mobile's twitter page. They will tell us when the release is near. :)

This worked to get 4 new cell sites in my town (which drastically improved local signal) so maybe it'll work for this.

My new suggestion:

Everyone here: EMAIL Verizon Wireless (via contact us on their page), Google Support for Android (wherever you can find their info) and then Motorola and stress the importance of this update.

We all know it is basically ready for launch (as a similar update was launched on milestone) and something similar is on the Nexus One (am I incorrect?) so it's basically just waiting for people to press the magic button.

I worked for Verizon Wireless for 8 years (before moving to a company, not a wireless carrier, with more promotion opportunities) and Verizon had always taken their customer's thoughts and ideas higher than anything. The lower price plan for Unlimited Talk was brought about by customers. The Unlimited Messaging plans came about by customers. They DO listen.

I'm emailing all 3 now...i'm too anxious.

Emailing them isn't gonna do anything, and the milestone didn't get a 2.1 update, just 2.0.1. The Nexus is the newest big bad Android phone and one if it's BIG selling points is that it is the only phone with 2.1 right now. Google is gonna get all the $$$ it can out of that, like I said along time ago. We will be lucky to get 2.1 sometime in feb or march, because if you look at the history of these situations with other phones they usually have to wait 2-4 months to get these updates. Just because this is Verizon's big phone or Motorola's doesn't mean Google is gonna let them steal the N1's shine.

But don't we already know that moto and google are working on the update right:confused:? You make a good point though. You really think Google is putting a hold on this to help the N1?

We all know threads are never locked unless Chuck Norris punches and old lady in the throat and wishes it to be so.

Oh I am sure Motorola and Google are working on the update, it is probably done or just about done. But they want to milk the N1 a bit longer then they have yet, it's only been out for what 2 weeks or so? My prediction for the 2.1 OTA has always been February-March (or even further), but I would love it if we got it sooner of course.

I definitely understand them milking it for the N1 to get its time to shine. I do not see it taking very long at all to implement with the droid since the SDK has been out now for like almost three weeks. I really think you nailed this on the head which is kind of a bummer but I hope it comes sooner rather than later.

Are you being sarcastic? If not....No...there is no update other than a rinky dink facebook update which is oversized (if you got it).

We will get nada until the shine of the nexus dulls a bit. Welcome to being old technology. Chuck Norris did warn us about this though.

Oh hai guyz!

out with the old (storm) and in with the new (droid)

leap years ahead would be an understatement, but if my droid had a hole, i'd eff it.

since everyone is already beating a dead horse, i'd like to take a swing too...2.1 release date? rumors?

All we really know is..."Soon." :p

Corrected...all we know is a whole bunch of nothing. Itll come eventually, but they have no reason to rush it. Its best not to think about it or else time will go by very slowly.
