I tried the battery pull to solve the wifi issue but it didn't help. I don't seem to have any trouble connecting through wifi either so I'm not going to worry about it. But to be clear, here's a screengrab of wifi analyzer, is this normal? I loaded ez root yesterday on my stock frg01 build and it seems to run, i loaded this screen grab app once rooted.

I am running frg22 and WAS having wifi problems until a just fixed them. Here is what I did.

1. Enable SSID broadcast on my wifi router (It better to have it off for security, but this seems to be causing the wifi on the Droid to bounce like crazy).

2. Power off and on the phone. (This fixed the wireless power meter up in the notification bar)

That's a winner! I had SSID broadcast off, turned it on, rebooted and now the signal is fairly constant and steady and the notification bar power meter is normal. Thanks!

Yep. I have connectivity and I could browse just like normal. I should mention that in toying around I turned the wifi off and back on in settings and now it is suddenly working like normal. So.. I guess I'm all good now.

Thanks for the questions and I hope my discovery might help someone else.

I have no problem connecting to the internet, but after turning WiFi on and off my notification still only shows the bottom dot. Where WiFi networks are selectable the signal strength keeps going from "Poor" to "Excellent."

I really don't want to enable SSID Broadcast. Battery pull didn't do anything, maybe I need to try leaving the phone off for longer? I let the battery die and left it off for 30-45 min.

Factory reset next? So how does this work, to not loose any paid apps?

Kind of an odd question if anyone knows. Will a Verizon tech know that I have done a manual update to 2.2 if I take my Droid in if there are issues with it?

I ask from the mere standpoint that after going through 5 Moto Qs and 6 Alias 2s I seem to have horrible luck with phones. I can make Windoze run w/no problems aka blue screens or the lovely (not responding) problems but when it comes to mobile phones, I admit defeat.

Even after a factory reboot, my battery continues to drain whenever I use the thing. Whether it be phone calls or internet, my phone is getting sucked dry. I don't know what to do now...

I understand that you don't want to enable SSID broadcast, but this appears to be a bug in android os, and if don't enable SSID broadcast then you are constantly rebuilding your wifi connection. I suggest you turn it on at least to see how many of the other issues you have are resolved, you can always turn it back off.

I added my finding to:

Issue 6269 - android - Wifi connection inconsistency: loses connectivity - Project Hosting on Google Code

Which you might find some other ideas in as well...

Nah, you won't lose any apps you've paid for or downloaded, but you will have to download them again.

I just factory reset my Droid on 2.2. The one thing that is really worth noting: Android_OS is displaying 3% on battery use setting screen. This was up around ~35% before.

Sucks that I wiped every app off, lost all of my settings, etc., but I do really want to get to the bottom of this.

FWIW, I was on WiFi all day yesterday, with SSID hidden, I only used 60% battery from 8 AM to midnight with IM Easy running/reconnecting (if needed) all day. Either the WiFi drops cause no appreciable change in battery use or mine really wasn't dropping.

Oh yeah, at some point during the day, the icon in the status bar went from only the dot to showing an actual signal strength. Maybe related to installing WiFi analyzer, maybe not?

I was unable to a view a photo I saved from Handcent to my SD card until I rebooted the phone. It didn't appear in the Gallery immediately after save as had been the case with 2.1. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Just discovered/noticed this one today.. The dock app no longer remembers your brightness setting, it defaults to bright every time. Also, the sensor for the dock seems more sensitive now, it never went 'docked' when I pulled the phone from my belt pouch (has a magnetic closure), now it does.

I was having really bad wifi performance against my linksys wrvs4400n router (with wpa2 encryption). I'm pretty sure I had SSID broadcast on, but maybe not (i'll have to check later.) But anyway, I put up a second wireless ap, set it to 'b' mode only with wep encryption and it's been rock solid.

I'm running the bb v0.4 Rom.

Gosh, that is just weird. Well I'll be monitering my phone's battery closely today(I'm down to 80% and it has only been 40 minutes). The phone still get hot. I don't see what apps are kicking my butt. I hardly kill tasks unless they do a lot of refreshing or the like. I've also configure other apps to not refresh or even give me notifications.

Is there a tutorial on this whole factory rest deal? I'd appreciate a link, otherwise I'll snoop around the forum when I have time. Thank you.

hey alright, ill help you out here and im sure it will work for you.

1. get rid of your task killer. i had it before and after uninstalling it, battery life has improved 100%. dont have that mentality of "i have to kill this so ill free up memory and phone will work better"

2. if you do have email, i put my check email frequency to every hour and my auto sync is off for gmail and facebook.

the main thing that will help you is to get rid of that task killer. trust me itll be better

Just a quick, "I concur". I've been running without a task killer since I read a long and well written discussion of it somewhere here on Android forums, and I haven't missed it. At least set it to only run when you manually start it. Otherwise it's just another app that runs constantly.

Both of you - try a battery pull, followed by leaving your DROID alone for about an hour or so, and report back.

QUOTE]

Does this mean: pull the battery (for a minute or so), put the battery back in, boot up and leave alone?

Or leave off and leave it alone, or pull the battery for an hour?

For those that have a "task killer" and are getting the suggestion to remove it, install Astro file manager. It INCLUDES a tool for killing tasks if you need it. I haven't used it in a while though, I just haven't seen any need to kill a task...

I have found the following issues since upgrading to FROYO 2.2
Build FRG01B
Kernal 2.6.32.9-g103d848
UNrooted
Moto DROID

1) I had extra email icon setup to run one of my non-paid yahoo accounts. Now it no longer will send email. It will recieve fine but sending will ussually place it either in the send box but it is not recieved by anyone. OR it will place it in the "outbox" and trying to then "send outgoing messages" will ALWAYS result in "connection error". This was not an issue prior to upgrade.
As a caveat to this, an email that did go through showed the sender as my gmail account not the yahoo account that i tried sending it to.

Already mentioned issues
2) as others have stated. Much slower time lags on most operations.
3) Screen orientation takes extra shaking etc.
4) touch screen behaves erratic when plugged into charger.
5) Google voice will not "kill" even after using ATK
6) shorter battery life
7) Video no longer zooms (I thought it did before, I might be wrong)

I have done reboots, battery R&R, left it alone overnite,
I want to do the next update but do not want to root this one yet. I have not seen the non-rooted update to FRG22 or a patch for this one yet.

The SiriusXM app is broken in FRG01B, sound loops after 30 seconds to 3 minutes or so.

Has anyone tested this with FRG22? If not, it's back to 2.1 for me.

thanks,

EvilDroid

My wifi worked fine after the updating last week (after a tweak or two). Then I went out of town on 3G and 1X for the weekend and upon returning, my wifi is buggy again. Same thing: Shows connected on the droid, but the router shows it dropping off.

I noticed in trouble shooting it that my router reads the connection as a wireless n connection. Anyone have any ideas why? I thought 2.2 for Droid one was G. Incredible = n, Droid 1 =G.

If I force the router wifi settings to G only, then it shows up as G and seems to be more stable (so far). In mixed mode: It's N

Actually, I did a couple of things last night:

1) Removed Task Killer. I had also read that it worked for some people (for some odd reason)

2) I let the battery run completely dry before charging again.

After these two things, I went to bed while the phone charged.
...This morning, the phone was hotter than ever before. I checked the battery and it was still charging....at 50 percent. I got pissed and turned it off to let it cool down.

So then I removed Facebook from the phone and hooked it back up to recharge. I'm not sure if it's coincidence but the phone seems to be back to normal. It's not even super-heating when I talk on the phone anymore.

I had already gotten rid of notifications and refresh intervals on the FB app prior to removal, so maybe it was just the app itself. Who knows? I manually check/refresh my e-mail (rarely.) Even when I had the task killer, I hardly ever ran it, and I'd shut it off when I did. FB and TK were always at the bottom of the battery usage details, if ever.

The whole ordeal has rendered me perplexed. All I know is, the phone has worked pretty good without the two apps. I will continue to monitor its battery until tomorrow. Maybe then I'll try re-installing FB, and see where it goes from there.

Today's battery so far:
5 hrs 40 min since unplugged

Battery level: 60% (I've only seen these percentages in increments of 10)

Voice Calls: 62% (1hr, 8min)

Display: 20%

Phone Idle: 4%

Android System: 4%

Standby: 4%

Maps: 3%

Browser (Dolphin): 2%

...It's better than yesterday...

when clicking on anything there is a lag when clicking and the app launching or hearing the little selection noise.

the phone is SOOOO laggy even with no LWP, with a lwp forget it. even launcher pro lags

I had problems after setting up my DirecTV internet connection with droid not seeing my SSID off connection. I turned it off, then told droid to forget it, then signed back on with SSID off and now it works fine.
