Android 2.2 [Froyo] Bugs and Questions - Post em Here

Aac and mp3 mp4 files do not work. Does froyo not support them? Froyo sucks. Droid is ruinedverizon better make some changes or its gonna lose some client base.
 
My biggest complaint is switching home screens. Upon unlocking the phone I'll swipe to the right or left and nothing will happen. Sometimes it will work the second time; sometimes the third. Correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't it switch screens right away like it used to? Who else is having this issue?

My second complaint is that battery life has plummeted, probably due to the higher clock speed of the processor.

Finally, the new features of Froyo are great, but the phone doesn't feel any faster at all (nothing close to what has been advertised). Having the processor clocked higher is cool, though, but I should be noticing much faster, smoother performance, which is not the case. I tried a factory reset, but that didn't do much.

Like you I have found that swiping is flaky. Touching the dots in the lower corner of the screens seems to work 100%, though, and a long press on the launcher button brings up "icon" views of all five screens that you can tap to go directly to any home screen. I don't use swiping at all any more...
 
Since the 2.2 update, Advanced Task Killer (the one I've been using since I 2.0) hasn't been killing all tasks. Maybe it's some sort of setting I had before, or something... I'm not sure. For instance, I have to actually open Pandora and tell it to exit, I have to individually close each browser window. These things used to all close before - is this a new "feature" of 2.2, or have I missed an option somewhere?
 
It's because 2.2 doesn't work well with task killers, you don't need them. It closes programs using too much memory on its own and if it doesn't for some reason 2.2 has a new built in improved task manager that you can get to from settings > applications. You don't need ATK anymore.
 
Well that's extremely unfortunate. I have my browser's homepage set to about:blank as to prevent it loading anything that I don't care about (why would I want for a page to load when I'm going somewhere else). Except, now with 2.2, it always loads whatever I was looking at last (and every single window that was open, which I had never been aware of before 2.2 since they always got closed), which really sucks if it was a relatively flash-heavy page (I've disabled Flash because of this, actually), That, and there are no options that I can see in the Application settings to manipulate the behavior at all. The only thing I found that's remotely what I'm looking for is Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Running -> Browser -> Clear Data -> OK. 7 steps! It used to be one press from the home screen. Not only that, but Clear data... well, wipes EVERYTHING, so I lose EVERYTHING (bookmarks, history, form data). Hardly an ideal solution.

This has been my gripe with 2.2 /sadface.

Would it be wise to manually install the odexed version of FRG22? I forced the FRGO1B last week, with mostly positive results. But have noticed some infrequent issues such as screen rotation and occasional screen lag.

As for installing the FRG22, I'd first try a Factory reset, if you haven't already. then see how the current FRG01B runs.

And I am trying to verify, but it seems that all of the FRG22 releases seem to be rooted as well. Let me look into it more.
 
Confirmed that the ones on Pete's site are both rooted. If you do not want root, get it from elsewhere.

In fact, he says all of the stock files he has posted there are rooted versions.
 
Also, did you look at ladybagder2007's posts in the thread "expected date for new 2.2 build?"? She has shown a screenshot of a FRG22 update she allegedly received from a Verizon employee in-store. Curious what you made of this.
 
Not yet - but as of right now it is still a leaked build, not truly official yet. I'll lookk at her posts there.
 
Guess I posted in the wrong place, and can't figure out how to delete my post...

According to Google, Froyo should have:

Improved security with the addition of numeric pin or alpha-numeric password options to unlock device. Exchange administrators can enforce password policy across devices.

However, after getting FRG01B my administrator tried putting me on the network, and I started receiving mail without being forced to put in a password. I know from watching that the setting they have on the exchange server works fine on HTC Incredibles and Droid X's, but my Droid just goes right past the security requirements.

If I can't show them that it is forcing the policy on my phone I won't be allowed on the network, any idea what I'm doing wrong? Do I have a bad install of FRG01B?

I am one of the many who have had wifi connectivity issues after the update. I did a wipe which helped, but wifi is still bad. I fixed it by setting my router to 802.11G only which gets everything working fine, but it slows downloads for my 802.11N computers.

And, of course, if I go anywhere where the router is set to mixed mode, I can't maintain a connection.

I'd love any input on why 2.2 seems to be using 802.11N. Was that planned for the update?
 
There are 2 OTA Updates being pushed out to users.

Those that have ESE81 (aka 2.1 or 2.1 update 1) are being pushed out a smaller PTA update that patches your system to FRG01B.

Those that are not on ESE81 are being pushed out a lerger update that simply erases your \System diretory and puts the entire FroYo 2.2 OS on your phone - also FRG01B.

The end result is that regardless of which one you get, you end up with FRG01B.

Everyone who gets this: I highly recommend that after upgrading you perform a factory reset and then activate and log in and re-set up your apps.

If you do not perform a factory reset and set up all your apps again, then there are way too many variables that exist in terms of what could be causing problems, and it becomes extremely difficult to trace down.

Besides, telling people to do the factory reset is what everyone is suggesting anyway, so since this update (these updates I should say) are not being pushed out everywhere, update, then factory reset - in that order.

I thought that my DROID could use N too when I first got 2.2 on my phone. It has to do wit hte fact that in mixed mode / N only but on the 2.8 freq the DROID can see the ruoter and actually try to connect to it - however, the connection never lasts.

I finally got my older A/B/G router out and made it a dedicated AP for G connections, leaving my N router to do N only and at the 5.4 GHz freq range instead, and all is well with my WiFi.
 
A few questions about the update.

- How does the Bluetooth dialing work? It says in the update that it will show your voice comands, and then repeat them back.

- Also, the update says that you can switch btwn letters and numbers/symbols with a swipe of the touchscreen. I have not been able to do this.

- What is the deal with the USB connection widget?
 
I hope I explain this correctly....
Just got my update, and was scrolling to see all my apps.
I don't have the option of scrolling, and can't find the list.
I can get to my side screen, but nothing else.

Part 2. I downloaded flash, but can't find it to install.
Also, I had to set the phone to allow installs from places other than the market. Is that ok?

Help, please.
 
1) umm, not sure what you mean by list of apps - the home screen interacts the same as before. It may be laggy, though.

2) yes, that is how you do it - if you downloaded it using your phone using the stock browser, check on the SDCard in a folder called Downloads.

I highly recommend that you perform a factory reset and re-activate your phone and then reinstall all your apps (if your settings are to save your info to Google, then it should reinstall them automatically for you).

This should fix any of the lagging situation that you encounter.
 
:confused: I just was prompted to download a new version 1.4 of Pandora. I'm listening on my work cheapo work speakers but I don't think this version fixed the crummy sound issue from the Froyo update. Have to try it in the car in a few.
