Android 2.2 [Froyo] Bugs and Questions - Post em Here

Hello - I just received the first OTA 2.2 update. I was surprised to see that the screen rotation for the home screen still does not work. In order for the screen to rotate I have to slide open the keyboard. I DO have the option to rotate selected in the settings. Again, this works for all other elements, just not the home screens.

I have been using Panda Home as my launcher prior to the Froyo update because it did rotate my screen. But now with 2.2 i lose functionality. Is there a better home launcher I should be using? or will this be corrected soon?

Thanks,

Chris

I'm having a wierd issue with adding any app to the top right position on the third home screen. Anyone else with the same/similar issue? Tried searching for this but didn't turn up anything...

yeah i used helix it rotated now it's FC on 2.2..
Found Zeam in the market for 2.2.. trying right now

Zeam works great. Long touch screen brings up Widgets shortcut and preferences are where I found the settings. Up to 7 screens and beside to check sensor rotating. Other options I gotta figure out. Like it better than helix..

Can't figure out how to use voice commands to activate a phone call with Blutooth. I'm using a mono in the ear Samsung. Do I need to download a separate app? I'm running 2.2 on an original Droid.

Worked fine for me without any additional configuration. I use a Jawbone and when I long press the button on my Jawbone the Bluetooth voice command screen pops up on my phone and tells me to say something lol.

Has anyone else had problems with the Default Browser not working?
I updated my Droid this morning (very excited I might add finally seeing the 2.2 update release for the Droid) however to my dismay I can no longer browse the internet using the default browser. I tried Dolphin Browser and sames story... I installed NetDroid and it will browse the net without any hic-ups...

...

Ive tried doing a *228 program AND roaming update as Verizon suggested and no change. I've restarted the phone, and pulled the battery out for several minutes as well.

Any ideas? Any help would be great

K, All Fixed. I talked to verizon and they said they didnt have ANY other reports of this isssue so they suggested a factory reset. So I backed everything up wrote down all my apps and checked the two boxes above the factory data reset, (Back up my data and Automatic restore) and did the factory data reset.

Took about 5 minutes to reset the phone but when the phone came back on the browser works perfectly.

On an interesting side note I didn't have to go through the market and re-download and re-install all my apps. It automatically re-installed all the apps I had before. I did have to re-set up my e-mail, gmail, and facebook but that was easy. Took me longer to set up my home screens than anything else.

When I long press the button on the earpiece, it just redials the last number. Maybe there's a compatability issue, and I have yet to try it in my car that has built in Bluetooth. We'll have to see. But for now, I am disappointed. This was probably one of the features that I was most anticipating.

after updating to 2.2 I seem to be having charging issues with my droid with both my car charger and my wall charger. If I move the phone in a certain direction the phone restarts and sometimes it won't charge at all. This only started happening after I installed the update. I told my one friend who has a different android model and she said she has the same problem. Any ideas as to what's going on?

I just installed Froyo 2.2., and my battery drains completely within 8 hours, even overnight without using it. In checking the battery life, 50% of the battery drain was due to the OS, and 20% due to email. I reset the email from "push" to 5 minutes, and the battery was still dead after 8 hours. HELP!! What do I do? Can I uninstall 2.2????

I grabbed the Froyo 2.2 *immediately* before leaving on vacation for 2 weeks, perhaps a mistake :-(

Skimming through posts in this thread, could I solve some of my performance problems by performing a factory reset? I've done this twice unfortunately on this phone, previously I had to download and re-install all of my apps. Did I see someone note that apps will auto-reinstall under Froyo now? Can I "back them up" to the SD in some manner?

On to my problems

1) the home screen often disappears for 5-30 seconds. Nothing there - this usually happens after using on the car or media dock. I've had more home screen problems that appear to have disappeared over time. Suggestions?

2) Car Home - it appears that there are blank spots where I could install links/shortcuts to apps I would like to use while driving. Has anyone figured out how to configure these slots?

3) Battery Use - obviously a lot of people have this problem too, can't blame Google or VZW yet since this was a root install, but man, I can't make it through the day. Don't have sports apps grabbing scores all day - any thoughts or suggestions?

4) Memory/Storage - Under 2.1, I was always 'tight' on storage space. With 2.2, I've moved as much as possible to the SD card, but even having NOT installed any more apps, I'm still running low all the time. It appears that the device locks up less frequently and performs quicker with more memory available. Any thoughts short of removing apps? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance and I apologize for re-asking any q's that I didn't catch in my thread skimming.

I downloaded Daniusoft Video converter, it has settings for the Droid already in it, and just reconverted them all. Now it's back to normal.

Thanks for the suggestion SlimJim! Can you tell what resolution and bit rate you are encoding at? I had to drop my encoding to 320x240 @ 600kbps for it to play smoothly. 640x480 @ 600 plays but is very choppy. So it looks like I just have the same choppy video problem everyone else has. I hope this is fixed in FRG22!

after the new update my droid wont start it gets stuck at the motorolla symbol everytime i restart. ive tried taking out battery didnt work. what will fix this?

I was excited to get my 2.2 OTA yesterday morning, and for the whole first day of using it, I didn't notice any problems.

Today, however, I tried to take a picture of something, and when I do this, the phone just freezes. I can open the camera, point it around, etc, with no problems. But when I take a picture, it freezes where it is, waits 15 seconds, then reboots (starts at the M screen).

Any advice? I'm running FRG01B, distributed OTA yesterday, on a never-rooted MOTO Droid.

edit: Couple of things I have already tried from looking at a few pages of this thread: taking out battery, deleting camera icon and putting it back on the desktop. Neither worked.

Looks like I am the only one so far that has had my problem... The 2.2 update completely bricked my Droid. The update popped up on my phone this morning, I selected to update, it started the process, acted like it was going to restart, but there it sits at the first screen with the Motorola logo. It has sat at that screen for about three hours now with no change. Brought it up to my local Verizon store, there was nothing they could do for it, and they had no Droids in stock. I had to pay to have one shipped overnight to me as I am leaving tomorrow afternoon for a huge car show / cruise in Detroit for the weekend. Bad deal for sure, but at least I will have a new phone... tomorrow.

Update came to me last night, I thought perfect timing it'll do it while I went to bed, woke up this morning to a dead battery, put it on the charge turned it on and it won't boot passed the Moto screen. Have to wait til 9am to get to the store... not looking forward to what they have to say....
