Android 4.4.2 KitKat confirmed for Galaxy S3

I've been reading about the KitKat upgrade and the effect that it has on SD cards. I've been told that there is an easy fix for it, if your phone is rooted and that the fix is described on the XDA forum. Does anyone have a direct link to that post in the forum. I've gone there and looked, but, I swear, whoever designed their site designs mazes. I can never find anything on there. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah their site is really hard work lol I only ever use direct links :D
I saw a guide posted on g+ a while back and it did look really simple. I might have bookmarked it in one of my browsers so I'll have a look and post it if I find it.
Another really simple fix is to just flash a kitkat custom rom ;)

And that is why I love Android. No matter how some- company, system, development team, take your pick- tries to screw around with things, there is always someone who will come up with a solution to their "enhancement".
Thank you, NextApp.

just updated my phone still not kitkat for telus just a fix i think I'm still on android version 4.3 and this was the ND2 firmware update

Thanks for the confirmation. See any obvious fixes?
I have been having a great deal of issues with 4.3 and Bluetooth usage until this latest update. I found that the phone would no longer make calls until it was rebooted. Bluetooth functions seem to work a lot smoother with the half dozen music/handsfree devices I use.

To those who are wondering what Kit kat adds to the Galaxy S3....

Android 4.4 KitKat on the Samsung Galaxy S3 - YouTube

(This is not my video btw, so don't ask me anything about it :P)

It looks like it doesn't add too much, kinda sucks that it still has those ugly colours in the settings menu and stuff, and no ART it looks like...

I wish they updated the looks on the galaxy S4 and S3 on kit kat to match the galaxy S5 (kinda like what Apple did with iOS 7)

It will be interesting, if the international s3 doesn't get official kk, to see if any rom Devs port it.
Anyone know if it's possible to port a proprietary firmware to another device?

EDIT after reading the link above it seems the international with its 1gb of RAM just can't handle kitkat touchwiz.
Just shows you how bloated Samsung's firmware is lol, the international has been running aosp kitkat just fine for months. I can only imagine how laggy Samsung kitkat is on the US s3s

Yep, was just about to point that out:
"KitKat upgrade will be available to the Galaxy S3 LTE version as the device’s 2GB RAM is enough to support the platform upgrade."

Good news for the LTE folks, sucks for the international folks. Gives you more reason to root, etc. Something I might end up doing anyway.

Yeah hopefully it will make more people try aosp on their s3 to see how fast it can be.
Id never let touchwiz anywhere near my phone :D

Yea, I haven't given much thought into different kernals or ROMs yet... if you use something like titanium backup on a stock (rooted) phone and go to a custom ROM does it really restore most of the stuff (I know it won't get everything).

Probably not the best place to ask this since there are root sections of the forum...

Funky expect a flurry of posts from me come June when I get my sticky paws on my sisters GT-I9300. If I can't have KitKat it is time to dive into the uncharted (by me) world of AOSP ROMs. I am a "pure" Android virgin, all my Android phones have been Samsung's with TW. Which I like, but cannot compare.

Fun times ahead given the lack of ROMs, Kernels etc there are for my Note 3. That is by far the only bad thing about my "Hobbit Tablet".

All your apps and their data yeah. That's all that gets wiped when you root and flash it anyway

Glad I rooted even more so now, Touchwiz ran like a bit of a pig compared to AOSP. Was interested to see how Samsung was going to butcher Kitkat though.

Indeed, although I would say "added unnecessary fat, rather than butchered". :)

They got around it on the Note 3 only by giving it a huge 3 Gig of RAM, which to give some sort of perspective (and perhaps a completely incongruous comparison) is 1 gig more than my (admittedly aging- 2009) laptop.

Like putting a huge engine in an overweight car instead of stripping weight :D

Yeah no kidding... I still love it though :D

(btw I downloaded the firmware!!! now I'm waiting for my phone to boot up... it's stuck on the screen that just says samsung on it... It's been nine minutes now and it's stuck like that....)
