Can we keep the update kit in the existing Sd card along with other files ? Or it updates only with the formatted Sd card with no other files in it

I think This method doesn't require any root or so.Any how good & easy method and of course cool explanation.

Here is another method explained by our friend Zilver

I found this method in a czech forum, but not explain if you keep other files on the sdcard. A soon as I return to home I try this method.

Please try keeping the other files and let us know. I thing it should be successful. As the update reads only its specified folders ie UpdateKit. as it does not require any boot files as the system is already booted.

The Sd tools method is for dead or new boxes where it needs to boot from the sd card.

We need to stock 1 card with sd tools for recovery in case of os being corrupted.

me too will check after going home.

It shouldn't matter if there are other files on the SD card when you copy update.osk into /data/UpdateKit/Android.osk - The SD card is only a means for transporting the .osk file to the FV-1. You can use a USB memory stick or USB HDD or download it from DropBox or whatever, as long as you put into /data/UpdateKit and rename it to Android.osk

Here our friend pippopelo says it can be updated by placing the file in sd card & using the update system option in settings.
There is no need to copy files in /data/UpdateKit/Android.osk from the sd card. and i believe there is no need to root the system as well.

Here is the procedure said by pippopelo

Use this procedure for System Update Option:

in the root directory of the SD card, create a directory "UpdateKit" (note the uppercase and lowercase letters) and copy into the update file and rename it to android.osk. Go to "Settings" and choose "Update System". Discovery System updater window, press "Next" and a window will appear Backup software, press "Skip" or "Continue". Start window will appear to update, select "Start" and begin copying the file and then update verification. If everything is OK is performed, and will show a pop-up window inviting you to restart the device, click "OK". On the front panel both light LED, green LED lights. Wait until the GREEN LED starts flashing after a while, the device restarted and run it. You're done.

OK! Missed that part. Sorry. Slightly more straight forward than copying the UpdateKit folder to /data.
And doesn't require root, I guess.
Good call.

I tried it and it should work.Just cancelled before the final update.

Now only one issue should be solved the 720p videoplaying.Iam sure they must be woring on it,as it is one of the major features of the box, well it has been heard that this unit cannot handle hd rendering but still i have a strong belief that it will be sorted out with tricks and tweaks.

This procedure is perfect and easy! Thanks!!!!

I've been wrong before, but the output resolution limitation might well be (= I strongly suspect) a hardware limitation. If I'm right, no trick or tweak in the world can overcome that.

The dice player is working to some extent. But its killing the original quality of the video.checked on (400mb file of a 5 minutes video)
.I still have trust in mx player which is a good player and i hope it will be equal ant to dice player in next update.

Secondly fv 1 is supposed to have good samsung chip much superior to
rockchip which is heard tp be playing all the files perfectly.

OK, you talk about playing a 720p encoded video. I'm talking about outputing 720p. The former might be possible (just look at how the quality of embedded flash video playback took a leap with the september(?) release) - It's the latter that may be a hardware issue.

Well i didn't tested the September version .from july to jumped to October.
many things has resolved from the smoothness of the motion sensor remote(noticed while playing fruit slice )also the embedded flash plays well.

from last 2 days wifi has been crazy. variation in between 60 to 90 % .My router is on ist floor & tv on ground .on 60 % you tube is strucking on 80 to 90 % its playing well.

For those who want to remotely control the FV/1 (or any other Android device), take a look at WebKey. Just browse to your box with a web browser (the app tells you what IP your box has ) and you see its screen and can do all kinds of cool stuff with it. Reqires root

Firstly remove all the pluds .reconnect again and wait for some time.If at all it doesent work.

No worries your android must be corrupt. Please make a bootable memory card and install. Read previous posts to make a bootable sd card and install a new Latest firmware.

Hello,

I plan to buy an Android Top Box on DealExtreme, but I still have somme questions.
Now I am using UPnPlay + V-Player to stream videos from my server (NAS Synology) to my phone (Nexus S). Is it possible to install both softwares and do the same thing with the box ?

Thank you

@Lenoeldewario

I'm 99% sure you will be able to do so. I've rooted mine with Z4root, and then got the apk files and installed lots of apps. None gave me a problem. If you try to install them from market that comes, it will filter tons (because market detects the device as Mesada TV) and you won't find them.

If you get the APK files and tell me how to setup the stuff from my PC, etc. I will try and tell you if worked, pics, etc.
