Another SGS2 preview woohoo!

The phonearena comparison still left some questions for me. They didn't have a downloadable unmodified file to compare and both youtube videos looked jerky at times. I can run 1080p youtube smoothly so it's not my system spec at least. The SGS2 video sounded weird and processed, like there was some aggressive noise cancellation, and some of the colors were a bit saturated looking compared to the LG. If the reviewer is indeed standing at the same spot to film with both, the SGS2 video is strangely more zoomed in than the LG, which contrasts with what they say about the SGS2 having 10-15% wider view for images. Is this the same 720p zoom I've been hearing about? Or is that even more zoomed in than what's being shown? The LG audio sounds more pleasant and natural to me, the colors less saturated. I can't comment on smoothness as they both look smooth for a few seconds then jerk a bit.

Really? I honestly found it perfectly smooth for the SGSII and no jitters. The clarity seemed brighter and the noise was just fine. The LG was a little jittery but not to much. Still nice quality overall. It seemed a little darker. Still one of the eat I've seen on a handset.

Same here. The SGSII was smooth and the LG was jittery when panning left and right. It's apparent in the entire image. I think the OP was referring moreso the moving objects in a fixed scene on the SGSII which is more likely an encoding or framerate limitation.

To me SGSII looks a little smoother on video. Optimus 2X is not so bad but moving cars look a little jerkier compared SGSII. Not a huge difference. But the image quality on both still and video is clearly going to SGSII.

I have to say most of the dual core devices seemed over hyped to me, but the SGSII is the only dual core device I've seen that really seemed serious. Some of the quality devices that are not dual core show the same performance like the Nexus S. You do notice a difference but not much to wowed about.

The SGS2 looks a bit too blue, but the LG's photos looks too red and in the 1080p video, the LG's red level seems to pulse between a bit too much and much too much.

There's a color fix for the Galaxy S, that fixes the blue tint. I think there will be something similar for the SGS II.

That doesn't list the Evo 3D or either the LG 2x or their 3D phone, apart from the Sensation, which it seems to slaughter, the entries are the older generation.

Full GSMArena preview. So far answering some questions I had.

Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II preview: Second encounter - GSMArena.com

The phonearena video showed a zoomed in 1080p video and apparently gsmarena confirms it by saying the SGS2 does pretty much what the iPhone4 does and only uses the center. There is pixel binning on the 720p, which uses the full frame and reduces noise and is less shaky than the 1080p. That'll be my primary mode anyway because 720p already eats up gobs of memory, and I have shaky hands and don't carry a tripod around in my pocket next to the phone.

Those gesture based controls are interesting, but not superior ways to control the device. Why I would put two thumbs on-screen and move the phone instead of a simple pinch-to-zoom with one hand and a stationary phone, more fun than practical.

Still has blue tinted whites, but I can live with it. As with the Galaxy S, the lower the brightness of the phone, the more blue the whites get. LCDs get more yellow, for comparison.

OOHHHH not 1650mah battery WTF, its dual core 1ghz processor plus 4.3 super amold, display and on top of that 4g??? LMAO this battery will not cut it!!!!

it should at least carry 2400mah battery, my slow 3g Vibrant barely makes it through 6pm.

I think this could be a flop if competition will introduce larger batteries that will last easily through a day of moderate use

I think i will go back to the past and stick with my Moto Razor... NAHHH lol just will not go for Samsung Galaxy S again sadly

If anything, I think Tbolt is the phone that deserves your harsh posting regarding battery, not SGSII. The super AMOLED plus will consume less power than super AMOLED on Galaxy S. Dual core process will actually use smaller power than single core by distributing tasks to two cores and run each core at lower speed than single core would. I also wish it has like 2000mAh battery, but there is no phone with regular battery capacity bigger than 2000mAh.

If your Vibrant can't last even half day, then it's probably you not the phone that should be blamed. Dozen of my friends with Galaxy S (Vibrant, Captivate, Fascinate) all claim more than one full day life per charge.

Evo 3D is just CDMA version of Sensation with nearly identical spec plus 3D camera and apps. Though Tegra2 phones like LG 2X is missing, I bet it falls in between those two.
This probably won't mean SGSII feels like three times faster than Sensation in overall UI operations. But many gaming and multi-media apps will be definitely faster on SGSII.

All smartphones' batteries suck. My Desire's 1.4Ah (why does everyone use mAh?!) battery doesn't last me a day. A 2Ah+ battery would be great, but is it worth losing the thinness and lightness? IMHO yes, but I can see Samsung's thinking.

Roll on nuclear batteries, a single charge would outlive your handset.

This just shows you have no understanding of the technology we are discussing here, as technology improves as does the efficiency so they in fact use less power.

However unlike HTC, Samsung are providing a better battery which should result in improved battery life.

As for your phone not making it to 6pm, given what you have already said user error is the most likely cause, there are plenty of guides on how to improve battery life so I suggest you read them.

Man it won't hit the U.S. until Q3. That is some time from now. I still will get this device but I wish the U.S. could make more sense and grab this much earlier. Most of their big devices they show a month or longer ahead. Why do some thing like that?

My only concern is availability of unlimited 4G by that time.

Here's another good review of the hardware, a RAM obsessed one. There's 833MB total RAM, which I guess they rounded to 1GB, and 650ish when you close everything, the rest taken by the OS and probably touchwiz. I don't know why some people are complaining about it having a 1500mah battery. Mobile-review.com's preview said 1500mah and said it was marked wrong on the battery, the battery showing 3.7v and 6.11wh (6.11wh / 3.7v = about 1650mah) in their own picture gallery. How they know for sure it's wrong I have no idea. The Gsmarena preview says 1650mah. This guy in the video says 1650mah, and it is also labeled the same 3.7v 6.11wh and 1650mah on the backside. If it was mislabeled before, I don't think it is now, and the battery truly is 1650mah when shipped.
