Any new phone rumors for Sprint?

Wish Sprint would say whether or not they're getting the LG Nexus...

I'd prefer this over the LG Optimus G mainly because of the software support from Google.

If the Optimus G comes out November 12 as announced, then when would one expect the Optimus G to come out?

Again, they're virtually the same phone... so it'd be weird if Sprint got BOTH but who knows

I wonder if the buying power of the new conglomerate might not make that more possible.

I wouldn't expect any carrier to announce when (or even if) they are getting the next Nexus until Google officially presents the phone(s). Nexus is Google's pride and joy, They will want to announce it. I would suspect that Google will present the phone(s), and then the carriers will announce availability. In short, I wouldn't expect a date from Sprint until Google presents the new Nexus.

Google is expected to announce the Nexus at their event on October 29

I suppose we'll see then...

Real question is, if Sprint does get the LG Nexus, who in the world would buy the Optimus G? Seriously...

For all the talk about the Nexus being the best, the SGS3, chock full of Touchwiz, vastly outsells the Galaxy Nexus. Say what you like about processors, but the GNex is smooth, fast and it's a big 720p SAMOLED pentile display - same class.

Vendor software stacks, and advertising, sells.

And the GNex began the Nexus push into the market. Total worldwide sales of the Nexus One and Nexus S prior to the GNex - under 2 million units total.

So, the idea of the phones being Nexus certified, with an add-on cost for the vendor software stack is interesting, if true.

It took Google until ICS to make their app suite people centric, and everyone loved that. Pretty much the same people who thought that HTC Sense was bloatware, when in fact that's always been THE people-centric software suite.

Thanks to Google's influences, phones with menu and search buttons are a thing of the past. Bye bye context-sensitive search, hello root modifications to get my menu button back.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Nexus. But I bought the LTEvo for the better screen and camera.

Android has always been about choice. But a Nexus only world would limit that. And without vendor features, who else would show what Google is missing for features?

Hope this doesn't come across as harsh or personal, not my intention.

Just saying, if we think in terms of Sprint success, maybe there's room for more handset variety.

Because right now, Sprint is a Samsung house, with a few other models here and there.

Suppose there are three or more Nexii this year. How many would Sprint carry?

Ever since I purchased the GN, I just can't go back to skinned devices. But variety is a good thing. That HTC J phone looks like an epic beast. I can imagine the possibilities of the next EVO. SLCD 3 and 1080p? wow

The rumors I've been hearing are saying the HTC J is the basis for Verizon's Droid Incredible X, since that's supposed to be a 5" phone. I kind of doubt we'll see anything like it on Sprint this year if past HTC phone releases are any indication.

It's physically not bad looking, but 2100mah still? That's really asful.

because it is the newer A15 type quad-core... it would be less power hungry

but compared to the NOTE2... with the stylus and multi-window function..
i am still leaning towards the NOTE2.

Normally i prefer HTC... so hoping they bring something new and innovative to the table.
but if it is just a beefed up OneX... then it is a fail.

I love the shape of the Optimus G, I think the Nexus is too egg shaped and I hate it. Same reason I hate the GS3

Now if Sprint only rolled out a version of this new HTC J Butterfly, I would wait in line for it. , Maybe they would even give it Evo branding.

That is the Japan version, EM, and since it has been rumored for Verizon, you know how Verizon puts the lockdown on many of their devices.

Yes, that's the Japanese version but it does show what htc is capable of doing. And Verizon has tried to lock down HTC, and we still got the Hero and Evo, those bracketed the Dinc, and they claimed exclusivity on the GNex but that wasn't as true as they claimed.

And the SGS3 exists on Verizon and elsewhere.

The only maker I see really bowing down to Verizon on that is Motorola.

I totally agree.

Now, what would really be interesting is if Sprint insisted on making a LTEvo X w/ a kickstand! I just wish that HTC would open up their eyes and realize that battery life is WAY more important to people, than they give credit for. Their thinking of "thinner" is more important than "battery life" is so twisted. When I read an article with one of the execs talking about that, I kinda lost faith in HTC a 'bit (after all those years of my being diehard HTC). I loved the LTEvo design, but just wish that HTC would be more forward thinking when they drop their releases. It just seems like once they drop their flagship (which is usually earlier than others), they get outshined by other OEM's offering more powerful devices.

I hear you.

I don't think you appreciate the power efficiency of the LTEvo out of the box without babysitting, but I hear you.

My first week with mine, I streamed video for 9 straight hours over wifi from the internet. I average 10% loss per hour with the screen on, on wifi, almost double that for 3G.

I'd be happier with a bigger battery, sure, but let's not go around saying that we don't need kickstand. :D

And I don't think that anything really outshines the LTEvo in the US right now. The Note surpasses it in some ways, but I contend that's a different class.

It's a game of leapfrog.

The LTEvo surpassed everything at its release.

Every six months, something tops something. I think that you just said that you don't like that HTC is often first to market with new stuff.

Yeah, I'd like them to take a step back, look at the overall industry and hold out their next superphone (after the butterfly j) following a similar model that Samsung took (one phone that will sell big worldwide).

And you know me...any phone with a kickstand has to come into consideration (no cases for me)!

They are crap devices in comparison to what we power users would prefer.

Agree, but... :)

WifelyMon loves her Evo Shift. Unrooted, it's perfect for her. Light web browsing, lots of texts and emails (lots! :)) and a whole lot of yapping on the phone, and she always has gotten well over a full day of use, lots of 3G in that, without a recharge. It's taken a deep swim in the river and if she put it to the floor any more I'd swear she thinks that it's a basketball. She's abused it for nearly two years.

She sometimes uses my phone and still walks away wondering why no slider because the screen is swamped by the keyboard.

If the Shift had been my first Android instead of the Moment or my first HTC instead of the Evo, I would have never lurked here trying to find out how to make my Moment basically work or joined to figure out how to make my first Evo last more than 4 hours.

My point isn't that I disagree about us needing top end models, but rather that we need more variety in the mid-range.

Where is our One V or S or a slider choice besides the Photon Q?

I think hers has just about had its final drop, the speaker at the top is crimped closed and just this week the microphone started getting a little funky. So, it's either a new headset or my 3vo until we see what's next for her lol. :D Or my desire for airbags on her next phone! :D

Well, there is the LG Mach coming out, as far as mid-range slider phones are concerned. :D

They can't win. The One X has fewer problems, better power efficiency, an equal or better camera, better radios and a laughably better screen than the SGS3. Give it 2 GB ram, an SD card and removable battery and Samsung would still outsell them.

Put out a better model after Samsung and right after the honeymoon, the blogosphere will still proclaim Samsung the winner and proceed to badmouth HTC.

In the past, htc has had a supplier consistency problem. I think that there were something like 8 Evo versions and 2 3vo versions. People get one of the off versions, hate it and thereafter think that HTC needs to change their designs, and never get the experience that those of us getting the mainline version got.

They design well, but Google and Apple are teaching them to build in a little bit of customer dissatisfaction to drive the next model.

Anyway, I submit that whatever the SGS4 will be, if you take two, change the logo on one to HTC and send both out to the professional reviewers out there, they'll declare the Sammy the clear winner.

Lol sorry I guess I got off on a rant! :D

Rant or not, it's the unfortunate truth of the situation regarding HTC's current standings as far as public image goes. I would be an extremely happy camper if I had a 1.12 hboot EVO LTE, but I don't. I decided that waiting may be more beneficial in the long run. So far, that theory hasn't been proven (until I find out for certain if a Nexus device will come to Sprint).
