Any new phone rumors for Sprint?

Well, there is the LG Mach coming out, as far as mid-range slider phones are concerned. :D

Wow, I missed that one! Could be her next phone, I like the specs and that keyboard looks great -

LG Mach for Sprint hands-on (update: video) -- Engadget

Early.. tie it around her neck or wrist. :P

You have no idea... :p :D :D :D

Rant or not, it's the unfortunate truth of the situation regarding HTC's current standings as far as public image goes. I would be an extremely happy camper if I had a 1.12 hboot EVO LTE, but I don't. I decided that waiting may be more beneficial in the long run. So far, that theory hasn't been proven (until I find out for certain if a Nexus device will come to Sprint).

We have s-off for all of its bootloaders now, so it's a viable option again for those liking the LTEvo. :)

That could happen but we may have to say goodbye to Image Sense if it does. Not sure.

its times like this.. when faced with an upgrade.. and all the choices.. and rumors.. endless rumors................................

i am a little jealous of iphones... only 1 choice each year...

just a little bit...

Ok, but dated now.

Next generation is the Arm Cortex A15 or the Qualcomm Krait (found in the current S4 dual or S4 Pro quad core).

BTW, HTC J Butterfly releasing in Japan on KDDI - S4 Pro, 2 GB ram, 5" 1080p.

If they turn that into a Nexus it would be really appealing... Otherwise, no thank you.

Anyway, I submit that whatever the SGS4 will be, if you take two, change the logo on one to HTC and send both out to the professional reviewers out there, they'll declare the Sammy the clear winner.

Lol sorry I guess I got off on a rant! :D

For what it's worth, many tech bloggers still think the One X/LTEvo has the best screen of all phones currently available. Having compared it to the GS3 and the iPhone 5 in store, I agree.

But then we would be just like them. It is the choices that make Android so unique.

They don't only have one choice, they have the same choices as the rest of us. The difference is they repeatedly choose the phone that is still playing catchup to all of our better phones.

They can't win. The One X has fewer problems, better power efficiency, an equal or better camera, better radios and a laughably better screen than the SGS3. Give it 2 GB ram, an SD card and removable battery and Samsung would still outsell them.

Put out a better model after Samsung and right after the honeymoon, the blogosphere will still proclaim Samsung the winner and proceed to badmouth HTC.

In the past, htc has had a supplier consistency problem. I think that there were something like 8 Evo versions and 2 3vo versions. People get one of the off versions, hate it and thereafter think that HTC needs to change their designs, and never get the experience that those of us getting the mainline version got.

They design well, but Google and Apple are teaching them to build in a little bit of customer dissatisfaction to drive the next model.

A rant that many of us feel! I love many of Note 2 specs, am more receptive to TW now that it's been tweaked, but still lust and long for HTC finesse, and yes (sorry Amoled lovers), the superior screens. I still go to Sprint and AT&T to play with the LTE Evo and have a hard time putting it down. I've come close many times, because the battery life IS better than previous models, despite being smaller, and I can't even imagine how much more efficient the J Butterfly is with the S4 Pro.

I kept waiting for the 5" HTC, and I bet we get a flagship come spring, but I am so very close to being sure on the Note 2. I keep saying if I can deal with any Amoled screen, it's this one. If it were pentile, it would be a no go, oh hell no.

Even with the lure of the big screen and the S-pen, and I am excited about those, no doubt.. I'm still settling, and waiting on HTC to make my dream phone.

Since the Note 2 will most likely be more expensive off contract, I will resign myself to get it on contract at release, then turn around and buy that 5" HTC I know is coming at full price.

I'm phone bipolar right now, methinks. Lol

I totally agree.

I just wish that HTC would open up their eyes and realize that battery life is WAY more important to people, than they give credit for. Their thinking of "thinner" is more important than "battery life" is so twisted. When I read an article with one of the execs talking about that, I kinda lost faith in HTC a 'bit (after all those years of my being diehard HTC).

+1
Makes one wonder if the focus group for such decisions even exists. While I can understand the concerns of a sizable portion of the market not liking the ever-escalating L&W dimensions of most high-end phones, the "Thin is in,make the phone paper light", & sacrificing extra battery capacity to achieve it, is a misguided effort, for two reasons.
The first, obviously, is battery life. More is always better, whether imbedded or removable.
The second, (& this is more of a personal preference) is that while I appreciate the overall improvement in the SGS III vs the PHOTON, I liked the weight & feel of the PHOTON better. The SGS III w/the stock battery is just too light. Even if it didn't need an extended battery, I would have bought one anyway. The extra thickness that the MUGEN 4600 extended battery adds makes for a more solid feel & fits better in the hand than the wafer-thin stock SGS III.

Another plus w/the MUGEN 4600 :The battery cover that comes w/it has a built-in kickstand & the overall look is much nicer & more distinctive than stock.
(Obviously just one person's opinion, but, the correct one.... :p )

My brother feels that way about his SGS3, I do too with the LTEvo - too light and thin. Otterbox Defender ftw! :)

I far preferred the Note screen to the SGS3, it wasn't tinted. Looking forward to seeing the Note2!

One other thing I'd like to add to in regards to the size & feel of the latest offerings:

With the trend towards 'Bigger is Better" & considering the NOTE & NOTE2 come w/a storable stylus, why not add a retractable TV/FM antenna (at least an FM antenna)? IMHO, it wouldn't look all that horrible & would save on data usage for those that are on limited data & help out when in a weak/non-existent data/WI-FI situation.
My PHOTON & many others have FM available, but, only works w/wired headsets. Definitely not an option to me, as I have tried wired headsets & for normal everyday use,it's a ridiculous option that's not practical, in today's world of BLUETOOTH connectivity.

I understand that the Asian markets have models that have this available on a few select handsets. Why one of the major manufacturers haven't jumped on this & made it available to the North American market is beyond me.

I am thinking that the mystery device will be either the padfone2 or the new htc 5" phablet. That's my best guess.

I don't think it'll be either of those. Padfone 2 will not sit right with any of the US providers because they wouldn't be able to charge customers extra per month to use it, like they are able to do with 3g/4g enabled tablets.

HTC Butterfly J (DLX or whatever it's called) will be a Verizon exclusive for the first couple weeks to a month, until any other provider offers it.

This is a complete shot in the dark, but I don't think the next LTE device is going to be a phone. My guess is a 3g/4g enabled Nexus 7 tablet. With the October 29 event coming up, and the leaks about it introducing the "new" tablet from Google...that would be my guess.

That
would suck lol

They can't win. The One X has fewer problems, better power efficiency, an equal or better camera, better radios and a laughably better screen than the SGS3.

I will gladly give you the screen because it's not pentile like the S3, but the One X has fewer problems? how so?

I think it's also well know that Samsung devices have always been better at power efficiency than HTC.

HTC has a better camera sensor, but their compression kills it.

The international One X has a worse audio codec, The EVO LTE and the S3 both use the same radios..so I'm not sure where you are getting that. I think some of these things you are pulling out were GS2 issues, and not S3...

I said that going strictly by the user support threads that I've monitored, contributed to or lurked as a mod in for both phones.

I expect more problems with a phone with higher sales, but objectively, the number and depth of issues hitting the SGS3 seem quite disproportionate.

If user feedback is to be believed.

Examples - recent update broke previously working MTP with Macs. Ongoing wifi issues.

I find too much variability in the radio reports to believe much either direction, tbh.

And while the two phones do use the same world modem build in to the S4 SoC, it's quite unlikely that they use the same radio transceiver chips, so those subsystems aren't identical.

As for the camera, please see results in the LTEvo show your pictures thread. There are a lot of stunning results there. I've compared some snaps taken at the same time, same scene of the family between mine and an SGS3, stats asides, my shots had better color and detail. We both reviewed the same test results prior to release, so that surprises me, but that's my basis for the claim.

And not everyone is sensitive to pentile, for those that are, it's a big deal. But I've seen one SGS3 in a store, five more in the wild, and they're a little blue tinted, unlike the Note. Is there a tint adjustment on the phone for that? If so, I'll withdraw that criticism.

Anyway - if it sounded like I was calling the SGS3 a dog, I apologize, I wasn't. I've recommended it to family members (ones I like, lol) because there's no perfect phone.

My point was only this - the blogosphere gets a meme and they run with it, facts ignored.

I see this sort of thing often - "My SGS3 is smooth, not laggy like Sense." And I've sometimes asked when the last time was they used Sense, and the answer is often 2 or 3 years ago.

We all want the perfect phone. It doesn't exist. I don't believe in sacred cows, so I call problems where I see them - including with my own phone, I'll gladly recite the list. :D

If I have a personal bias, it's that I expect something crappy on every high-end phone that is almost silly, and that often, root and good independent dev support is the answer.

I was objecting to the unfair memes in the blogosphere, nothing more.

Ok if you disagree with any of the above, I'll gladly give you the last word, but after that, I hope it's ok for us to PM on this so as not to derail the thread. I think we have a lot of LTEvo and SGS3 owners here and I don't want to dredge up old arguments over any misunderstandings. You and I have often been in agreement on this sort of thing, so I hope that proposal is fair enough. :)

Edit and PS - the blogosphere likes to insist that it's ok to call modems, radios. I can't stand that. Radio transceiver chips are separate, you don't put those RF components into the SoC. The busses inside the main processor are all screaming at RF frequencies, putting the whole radio solution in there would be a recipe for disaster.

When pointing this out to others, I've been told that it's either a matter of semantics or that if I was going to be specific, why didn't I include the entire radio subsystem and add in the firmware, software and antennas.

My answer - words mean things, and I'm the guy trying to help so consumers can understand. Modems are not radios, regardless of the blogosphere's opinion on that. ;) :)

Another PS - s4gru.com had some posts comparing the transmitter power differences between the two phones. I seem to recall the SGS3 edged out one of the LTEvo radios and then being the same or a little below on the other - all in all, testing effectively the same for a user's point of view, but establishing they aren't using the same radios.

But the reception reports I've seen on both, and the differences in GPS problems I've seen on both, lead me to stand by that the SGS3 doesn't match the LTEvo on that.

As someone who's owned the latest model by both MOTOROLA (PHOTON) & SAMSUNG (GALAXY S III), they both have a great feature set & the one common denominator is battery life, which would be better on both if 3G/4G were better in my area.
This is the only reason why I haven't opted for the HTC EVOLTE, due to an imbedded battery.

Hopefully, when my upgrade comes up in JUNE 2013,the network will be up to par in my area & then HTC would definitely be in the mix for my next phone, as I'm sure they'll have something new to offer by that time, although, the current offering of the EVO 4G LTE is a great phone itself. Perhaps if there was/is a MOPHIE style battery booster case available for the EVO 4G LTE, I'll take another look before my upgrade rolls around.
