Root Any News from the Root Devs?

I went into a Sprint store yesterday to get my Evo checked out and hopefully get a replacement since this one had so many problems. I had to unroot and went back to my old Android 2.2 without all of the updates. I let the play around with the phone for an hour and come back hoping to hear them say that they'll just give me a replacement...instead the guy acts as though he did this amazing and great thing for me by updating me to the latest Gingerbread update :D!!!!!!!!! not lol anyway...I'm really hating this stock ROM and was wondering if anyone has mentioned anything about a new root method coming. I'm all updated to the most recent updates as of yesterday.

Also, what exactly changed between Android 2.2 and 2.3 for the Evo? I see very little changes. :/

He took you from 4.54 to 4.67? If you have the new H-boot, rooting is going to be a pain.

The only big changes were android version 2.3.5 and the removal of CiQ, but most custom ROM's already had that removed.

Aw :( Where would I find out which version the 4.67 is in? I believe so...he updated it with EVERY update imaginable including the optional HTC security update  Sprint must really have a hard time admitting that someone can do it better than they can because it's still buggy for me.

Thanks ocnbrze! I'll check it out right now and see if I can root.

go to settings>about phone>software info that should tell you what you have right now.

and let us know how it goes with the root process. it is a little more complicated then revolutionary, but is still relatively simple.

would have been better off updating it all yourself then taking it in. I guess we live and learn.

I had actually debated on whether I should do that or not before actually heading there! I almost did update it but I was hoping that they would simply look at it and determine whether or not I was eligible for a replacement. If I wasn't, I was going to reroot my phone and just wait out for a few more months until I get an upgrade in August. I guess we live and learn.

I had rooted my cousin's phone after she got the Gingerbread update via Revolutionary and it worked well and, in my opinion, easier than before I initially rooted with Froyo.

Thanks! It says that my version is 4.54! That's the build number, right? I wonder why it didn't update to 4.67.

good luck!

Thank you :)

well that is good news then revolutionary will still work for you:D

edit: to be safe check your hboot. if it is 2.16 or 2.15 then you are good to go. if it is 2.18 then you need to follow the guide i linked earlier.

2.16 :D so I can root without using the revolutionary method?

So I downloaded the stuff, went through the walkthrough, then got to the Revolutionary Beta key and it won't take either of the beta keys given to me.

I'm following this root method. I'm thinking that it's the serial number and I'm not providing it correctly. I took the case off of my phone, opened up the back and wrote down the serial number exactly as it's on there! First time I missed the last couple of letters/numbers then the second time I added those lost pieces but I'm not sure if I inputted it correctly. To avoid getting my ESN cracked or whatever, I'll post my serial number as it follows but with the wrong numbers/letters. Can anyone verify if this is the right amount of characters? I am writing this exactly the way that I wrote it for the revolutionary key. serial number S/N: HT24SHL87456 LA751 -76 XC

And does Caps/spaces matter any?

When you run Revolutionary, it will report your device's Serial number to you, in the command prompt. Just copy/paste that into the website to get your beta key, and then copy/paste the Beta key into the command prompt. That way you know both are right.

It won't allow copy/paste into Command Prompt but when I did write it exactly as it followed, it still said "invalid beta key".

Thanks for that! I kept wondering how else I could get the serial number.

There should be an option to "Mark" if you right-click (which will allow you to select text in the command prompt window), and if you click in the top left corner of the command prompt window, there should be an "Edit" menu option that includes "Paste". Trust me, if you copy/paste directly, it should work fine.

WTFFFFF!!!!!!!! lol that's crazy! It accepted and your copy/paste method worked. Thank you!!!

Phone is now rooted with Amon-Ra 2.3 Recovery. Now to flash a ROM and backup. Thanks everybody for your undying and step by step help once again. It is much appreciated.

Yea thats crazy but it was the same for me . I typed it like 20 times then copy and paste and it worked. Dosent make sense but it works.

lol it certainly is. Now that I think about it, I think that I copy/pasted when rooting my cousin's Evo so that's why we didn't have such a hard time. But it was weird because it wouldn't let me right click nor use Ctrl + V to paste into the Command Prompt for Revolutionary.

my assumtion on this is that when you copy and paste you are keeping original characters that you may not be able to see (Like a blank at the end) however it has been quite a while since i've done the root method it's all just speculation on my part
