anyone buying a RAZR/Rezound with the full intent to return it?

I'm not going to debate semantics, but I stand by my statement that buying the phone and returning it within the policies set forth by VZW breaks no rules and therefore is in no way the wrong thing to do.

Oh please. You've already said "I'm doing what I need to do" while admitting "It might not be the 'ethical' thing to do" so there's really nothing left to debate.

Actually, my statement says I'm not going to debate semantics and quotes your statement about the words wrong and ethical not being the same thing. What does any of that have to with me and what I choose to do with my money? Further, what does me doing what I need to with my money have to do with debating what two words mean, which is what you brought up and what I quoted?

So as I said, I'm not going to debate what those two words mean, and whether they are the same or not because it is irrelevant. VZW sets the rules and the rules say that the item can be returned and that is pretty much that. It's not breaking any rules.

I am using my Rezound and I sleep fine at night.

Hey crankerchick, how 'bout something we can agree on...

Just got my Rezound in the mail, charging it up now, and OMG that screen is gorgeous and even nicer than when I played with one in the VZW store! Runs smooth as butter so far. I hope you like yours as much as I fully expect to like mine, and if not then you'll have the killer Nexus to look forward to. :)

We do agree on that! The screen really is nice on this phone, both in color, cripsness, and clarity. I really do like the phone, and still may end up keeping it. I'm very undecided. The bloat bothers me, and I don't love Sense. But the screen is amazing and the camera is actually really good. My Rezound was blowing away the iPhone camera in a dimly lit restaurant the other night. Was making my iPhone 4S friend jealous.

If it had permanent root and S-off, I don't think I would hesitate to keep it, but without knowing if/when it will get it (root i'm sure, but s-off not so much), I'm still undecided.

The Nexus is thinner though, and that does call me.

So..... Renters, if we see Q1 release, what will you do? I'm debating whether to keep rz, exchange for razr, or returning and buy a cheapo on swappa while waiting for nexus.....? Hopefully we do not have this issue and vzw releases the damn phone!

Ftr,I love the rezound but its just a little too narrow for me. I've got really big hands and prefer a wide phone.

What are you plans?

If Nexus slips to Q1 next year, I will move to AT&T for SGSII or G Note seriously. It's very apparent that vzw doesn't want any decent phones from Samsung.

Seriously this is shaping up to be another Bionic fiasco. The difference is it's now verizon holing up release though it was Motorola for Bionic. I think they are afraid of spoiling razr/rezound sales by releasing Gnex.

It sucks but kind of understandable . I mean it's not the greatest business move to release 3 high end devices at the same time , you're gonna upset someone HTC/Moto/Samsung ... All have very similar specs so what's the selling point... In all honesty the Galaxy Nexus will undersell both the Rezound and Razr because noone outside of the Android community really knows what it is and the Razr and Rezound are both marketed more towards the public. I mean look at the what they are advertising on the Rezound .. Not the 1.5ghz Dual Core, the HD screen with higher PPI then Iphone4s , not the amazing camera they are advertising a gimmick in Beats Audio but people eat it up . Because they're told that the best audio is Beats and nothing else matters haha

What distinguished the 3 devices on paper and advertising where there is some is:
Razr - super thin
Rezound - Beats
Nexus - Ice Cream Sandwich

What distinguishes them since holding 2 of the 3 in my hands is:
Razr - thin and more "stock" experience since the skin is much less in your face
Rezound - beautiful screen, nice camera, good 4G reception and 3G/4G switching (at least in my experience
Nexus - vanilla Android, ice cream sandwich, larger screen for videos when the on-screen buttons disappear

Lots of people have bought phones because it was time and know nothing about the Galaxy Nexus coming out soon, they just jumped on a good deal on amazon or in-store or it was just time to upgrade and they chose from what was there.

Hah! You are right about that! I'm pretty sick of that commercial already.

Well, the words on many forums is that Razr and Rezound are not selling as well as vzw expected since they launched. I don't have real sales data to back up this, but that's the main consensus I hear. Apple folks wouldn't care much on nexus like any other android, but many android folks would. Anyone looking at IT media at least couple times a day should mostly likely aware of it. And on almost every android forum, it's winning polls against those two R phones. It may not outsell the both phone combined like some are predicting, but I bet it will sell better than razr or rezound.

I currently have the Rezound. Bought it within the holiday return period just in case the SGN drops in that time frame. What's not to like about any of these phones? With the exception of battery life not keeping up with display size and processor power.

Love the screen and size of the Rezound. Stoopid fast on 4G. Razr had no appeal for me. Do not care for the display or the shape of it.

The SGN might sway me to return the Rezound, but it's gonna have to overwhelm me. ICS is a plus one for the SGN. I am keeping an open mind until it drops and I read some juicy reviews.

if it goes past Jan 14 it looks like i will be returning the RAZR and using my busted screen, constantly rebooting, original droid until the GNex release. if we still don't have a solid release date by then (i sure hope that is not the case) i guess i will be keeping the RAZR. nice phone, but i sure do miss my removable battery!

Yeah I'm with you... If we have nothing in stone by January 14th, I'm done with nexus.... Gonna then decide between rezound and razr... Any complaints at all with razr, besides no removable battery?

device is a little too wide for my tastes, but i have small carny hands. screen is great, haven't compared it directly to the rezound, but it is by far the best i have seen in person. comparing it side by side with a bionic is a night and day difference. so nice to be able to see it in direct sunlight, this was definitely not the case with my thunderbolt. battery life is average for a 4g phone, but as i already mentioned, i am used to carrying a spare and that is just not possible now. SmartActions is useful, i wish it had an underclocking option built in, but it is only on version 1.0.0 so we may yet see that feature in an update.

I have my Rezound right now. It's the best phone i have ever had. Amazing. Only reason i want nexus is for something different, and the bigger size. I would have no problem keeping the Rezound though.

Something to think about. I just got back from a Verizon Wireless dealer, NOT a corporate store.
I asked the owner about the rent a Razar type deal. He said, after 14 days you own it. He didnt mention the holiday deal and I forgot to ask. I also wonder if that is some sort of corporate VZW deal and the independent dealers are not involved.
He also said on most returns, he can find something wrong with the phone to bill you for, generally 200-bucks. He also said he has to buy the phones from VZW for 5-600 each and spread the interest out over a year or so. So you go in, rent a Razor for 299, bring it back, pay 35 bucks restocking fee, and he has a used Razar that he paid 5-600 for. He said he will find something wrong to make up the difference.
Hate to say it, but I see his point, since he is floor planning the phones out of his pocket. He's not Corporate VZW, he's a mom and pop operation (in this case, husband and wife).
He also said that your upgrade date is from when you purchase the phone.
I was planning on buying a cheap smart phone to tide me over till I got the SGN, when ever that is. But by doing so I would not be eligible for the upgrade price and would have to pay the full price of the SGN whenever it comes out.
Personally, I think alot of people are going to be kinda screwed or have major problems returning phones.

The dealer didn't have any Razars in stock, but had a dummy one. It wasn't to big in my opinion, but diffintly bigger than my Eris.

All you have done with this post is reassure me that my decision to shop only at corporate stores was the right one.

Why exactly would you give that douche bag your business? He sounds awful...

He should be reported to VZW for representing them so poorly.

I just got my razr today. It's pretty nice, but I'm not completely sold. I plan on giving it a chance, but its not looking good. Coming from an atrix 4g, the blur OS is stale, especially with ics coming. Also the thiness is overrated and I'm not really liking the huge bezel. Lastly but most definitely not least is that it is simply mind boggling how much crapware that motorola and verizon were able to stick on here. I do not want to get into rooting phones anymore just to remove crapware. The only moto app I want is smart actions, and the only verizon app I like is myverizon just to keep track of my bill and data usage.

I got the RAZR for $.01 so I just have to decide if its worth paying 200 - 300 dollars just to upgrade from the droid razr to the gnex.

I just really need an android phone that I will be satisfied with and be completely content with the for full term of a 2 year contract. A nexus phone is the only android phone IMO that can do that. As you can see from my sig, I've been jumping around android and need to find somewhere to settle. I can't stand restarting angry birds and cut the rope from scratch every few months.

I wrote what I wrote, cause I personally wouldnt go rent a phone for a few weeks. I didn't relize that the mom and pop VZW stores pay for there own phones. I guess when they get them back they send them back to VZW to get refurbished, re packaged. I would guess they get some sort of credit. Not sure if it makes the store owner break even or not.

If your renting a phone to try to screw VZW because the SGN didn't come out on the non announced, rumor only, released date, at least go to a corporate store.

Mabey the corporate stores don't scrutinize the returns as much, so you would have a better chance of not paying for damage. The independant owner is just trying to protect his investment. What if he had 20-25 returns on Razors? Thats some real cash layout.

In the end, all the returns end up coming back to us as refurbished pre owned phones, which we bitch about when we get them cause we wanted a new ones.

As far as reporting him, every time I have ever been in the store, the customer service has been top notch, and the employees were able to answer my questions. No problems.
