anyone buying a RAZR/Rezound with the full intent to return it?

One thing to mention. You only get one exchange. If say you buy a phone, return it inside the 14 day window and get another phone, that's your phone for the next 2 years. So if you got the Razr, exchanged it for the Rezound with the plan of exchanging that for a Nexus, you're gonna be outta luck.

I've dealt with this in the past. I got a phone, but ended up not liking it, so I exchanged it, and the second one was worse than the first. I called Verizon to see about going back to my old one and was not able to, because you only get one second chance. That's why if you do exchange you better make damn sure the second one will be the one you can live with, unless you sell the second one and buy the next one at retail price, which is what I ended up having to do. They've had that policy in place since around 2005.

Unfortunately I've dealt with this too.... I bought the tbolt, had issues with it, traded for charge and was stuck with that piece of crap... I finally got it off my hands and got the rezound.

Not if you buy from BestBuy. You can have more than 1 exchange in your 30 days (45 for silver rewards members) and there is no restocking fee!

So went and got the razor the 21st. The rep said I only had 14 days I told him I read about the Jan 9 extension and that if it wasn't valid to return by then I wasn't gonna get the razr (I mention that I wanted to see the gn before committing to the razor). He checked with his manager and said OK they would do it. But after reading the return policy I'm understanding I only have 14 days from activation so that puts me at the 4th Dec. So just to be safe ill return it before then. I wonder if they misunderstood me or just wanted to make a sale or can a manager override the policy ?

My path to the Nexus is through adding a line to a family plan for my father, and then switching the Nexus with my X2 between the two lines. The latter is good enough for him but not for my rooting ways. Of course, in en effort to get my dad the best data deal, I want to add a line before the end of the month to take advantage of the double data deal. With that in mind, I'm thinking of picking up the Rezound for now with an option to trade for the Nexus.

Then again, minus ICS, the Rezound is starting to win me over anyway. I've already decided I would take the next 4G device to land at VZW with an unlocked boot loader. Will it be the Nexus or the Rezound? (And will the Rezound have decent dev support?)

The real question now is, has anyone picked up a "temporary" 4G device and is now thinking of KEEPING it (Nexus anxiety be damned)??

Purchase date = activation date.

Normal return policy = 14 days from purchase date

New return policy = January 15 if phone is purchased or activated after November 15th

It's not rocket science. Verizon employees ARE idiots though. If in doubt, have them notate your account.

I bought a Razr with the intent of keeping it (since it's getting ICS anyway). It has too many issues and inferiorities to keep it.

Have any of you returned the rezound yet? Did they require you to return the headphones with it? I'd imagine so...?
Yes you have to return the headphones or you can't return it. I just returned my rezound. Also, others have said it but again a word to the wise: Don't think you can rent 2 phones before the nexus comes out. I got the rezound to rent, hated the battery life and sense, so took it back to rent the Razr, but I was warned that i wouldn't be able to exchange for the nexus when it came out if I got the razr because I'm only allowed 1 exchange at Verizon Wireless. So I decided just to get a cheap iphone4 on craiglist and wait it out until the nexus comes. Can't hurt to dibble and dabble in ios for a bit.

I'm probably going to keep the Rezound. With the extended battery lasting all day, even with heavy use, I think it's a no brainer to go with the really fast unit with a really nice screen and a big battery. It handles the most taxing games with flying colors, so "power" won't be an issue until there's a clearly better phone available for Verizon than the Razr, Rezound, and Nexus.

When we can root the Rezound permanently, most of the current complaints go away.

Nowhere in the policy does it say that you have 14 days from activitation to return device..... That is referring to the actual phone plan... You have until January 15th, /thread.

You didn't like the battery life? I have found that the battery life in the Rezound to be a very big plus on this phone. I consider myself to be a fairly heavy user (3gb of data in the 10 days I have had the phone) and the battery makes it through an entire day easily (on a typical day I turn the phone on at 6am and off at 10pm). I know that HTC has had a bad reputation of battery life in their phones in the past, but they nailed it on this phone. The battery life in my biggest concern purchasing the Rezound and I am very pleased.

This. Although I'll be a little less harsh and suggest that it's not so much they're idiots as it is they just don't give enough of a crap to actually research their own policies. It's a waste of time to confirm anything with the guys in the stores. They don't know and don't care. Their only focus is to sell you what's there and make sure you add on a case, a screen protector, Bluetooth headset, insurance, etc ,etc.

Plus, another reason they don't bother researching this stuff too much is because we're in the minority in caring about it. Most customers walk into those stores and keep whatever it is they buy, never to be heard from again. People generally don't buy phones with the intention to return it, so asking about return policies doesn't happen often.

None of this is meant to excuse how badly informed some of these folks are, incidentally.

Well I called vzw the phone Rep said it was 14 days from activation. I told her the store rep said otherwise so she called the guy who sold me the phone to explain and he confirmed that in that store they had the promo to exchange till jan15. So conflicting info from reps. I waited to see if she was still on the line to confirm with her but she hung up. She said the promo was for people who give gifts and.that's why people activate them till the 25 so they have till the 15 to return.

+1 again

Return Policy - Verizon Wireless

That policy plain and simple says 14 days for canceling service, which none of us would be doing. For a return, you have until Jan 15 if you purchase between Nov 15 and Dec 28. I wouldn't trust any service rep to know the correct information. People are always reporting different answers that they got straight from a representative.

I stopped by the local Verizon (corporate) store today. I explained to a very nice and knowledgable CSR that I wanted the SGN but was concerned about missing out on the Double the Data plan if I waited and it was suddenly canceled. She suggested I buy another 4G phone, activate and use it and then exchange it for the SGN when it comes out. She said any phone I bought and activated could be returned by Jan 15th. (She did insist that she thinks the DtD plan would be available until the end of the year.)
She also replied to my question about release date that the SGN would be out Dec 8. They already had lots of accessories. Promised to call me with any news about SGN or changes in DtD plan.
I didn't buy the phone but I am seriously considering heading back to get the Rezound. as a rental.:)

After many months on the Bionic / SGS2 / Function / Stratosphere / GNex quest, I couldn't pass up the sudden CostCo Black Friday Rezound deal. Suppose I could sell it on eBay and get a GNex, but so far I think it'll be most everything I want in an Android phone, esp. when it gets ICS.

It doesn't break any rules, so it's pretty much not wrong.

It might not be the "ethical" thing to do but it's certainly not the wrong thing to do.

Just sayin.

Unethical but not wrong? I do not think those words mean what you think they mean!

Have any of you returned the rezound yet? Did they require you to return the headphones with it? I'd imagine so...?

It'd be wrong not to return them, but I'll leave the ethics up to you. :D

Ethics??? These phone companies are the ones who need to check their ethics... Charging $650 - $700 for mobile devices is ridiculous imo. It's gotten outta control.

If possible, I'd keep those headphones and not think twice about it.

Really, it's okay to steal from any company that charges more than you're willing to pay?

I'm not going to debate semantics, but I stand by my statement that buying the phone and returning it within the policies set forth by VZW breaks no rules and therefore is in no way the wrong thing to do.

If someone is going to feel bad about doing it, then they shouldn't do it, and if they have no guilty conscience about it, then they should probably proceed.
