Anyone else changing their mind about buying?

There is nothing wrong with being on the fence, evaluating options and seeing how Nexus does initially once it's released here, just like any other phone. But bashing it or knocking it down for lower than expected spec is blown out of proportion. Honestly did anyone expect it to like 2Ghz quad core, 2Gb RAM, 100Mbps advanced LTE? It will take nearly full year for such phone with mature hardware/software to be on verizon, IMO.

And I am seeing a trend toward the screen and gpu issues. This is an old gpu maxed out or maybe maxed to far but something seems suspicious. Live wallpapers not playing well, etc. Camera comments getting worse by the day. I know this doesn't mean much and I know the browser benchmarks are amazing and you cant take alot of stock in benchmarks but I still use them as some reference. Did I see quadrant at 1800 on the Nexus? Any thoughts?

This is another reason I'm leaning towards a GS2. The Nexus is very much an unknown and I don't need to be an early adopter. The GS2 is a known commodity and despite a few small issues is a very stable, fast phone. I know I don't have to keep my next phone for the full 2 years, but I did end up keeping my OG Droid for the full 2 years so I wouldn't mind finding a phone that's that reliable for my next one. I'm not sure if the Nexus is that phone.

It's not mind blowing like quad core phones next year, but still faster than most others except SGSII in 3D graphics.

I also had similar thought as you at some point as my area is well covered by AT&T. But losing unlimited data and LTE on verizon was too much to give up. It will take years for AT&T to build LTE network anywhere near current Verizon network. But I agree that SGSII is still great phone and it's supposed to get ICS soon next year. Just check 3GSM/HSPA+ network coverage of AT&T on your area before jumping.

This is the first phone I've run across since the A855/Droid that seems to have the right combination of hardware/software/buzz to build real synergy like we saw back in the day when the Droid was swimmming in ROMs and Kernels. Even being woefully outdated in terms of hardware, the old Droid still stands proud in the crowd.

I'm not getting another phone I don't think would be able to pull off that feat. I just have this gut feeling the GNex is another "lightning strike"

The GPU is outdated junk. iPhone 4S performance is 2.5x better on GLBenchmark despite being older... and the SGSII is roughly 50% better despite first being released 6+ months ago. AnandTech - Galaxy Nexus & Ice Cream Sandwich: Initial Performance Analysis

Pretty sad that this is their "flagship" phone and it's already somewhat antiquated prior to release.

I hope this pic works but I took a screen shot of cf-bench on my Rezound that everyone says don't hold a candle to the Nexus or the SGSII. Antutu I got 5735. Does this make the Rezound a speed king also? J/K. Anyways I have 2 upgrades left so I was going to blow one on the Nexus to play with but I planned on pushing it so I am wondering if the big super amoled hd screen is too much for the gpu.

If you get a Nexus phone because its a Nexus phone, you already know its mostly for faster updates, stock Android, development, not necessarily the hardware. When we all found out it wasnt getting a Exynos...the ppl that still wanted it didnt care about the chips inside.

For the general public...they may get swayed by other specs here n there. But when ppl want a Nexus phones because it a Nexus phone....most already knew what they were getting into. The development for it, faster updates, stock Android.

Those 3 things I mentioned doesnt appeal to everybody tho. And IMHO....before ICS...stock Android was boring, and needed to have things added, switched out here n there for a more overall enjoyable experience.

So there are ppl that will still get it no matter what happens or changes. And there are ppl that might be looking elsewhere....like with ANY phone. Locked bootloaders didnt make the Droid X1 and later Motorola phones any less popular for most ppl. I dont think things changing or happening with ICS and the G Nex will effect most ppl that want the G Nex either.

Well I have what I need but the Nexus is a want as in a playtoy. You didn't answer my question, so in a sense you finished talking me into it. Lol. And your post was possibly aimed at a different post. I'm not a samsung fan either, and made by any of the other 2 bigboys I wouldn't question it as much. Like you preference. I want it for knowlege and to see if I can break it. It will be fun. Unless I hear more about the lag and gpu issues.

Well, if GL bench score is what you care most, then you can just go get iPhone4S as there is no android phone beating it yet. Nexus is fine if we look at only android phones right now. To me, real world usage like browsing and smooth UI feel is more important which Nexus seems to really excel.

As for the concern due to Samsung, look no further than SGSII to see what they can do if they really try to make great phone. Early reviews of GSM nexus seems to indicate good signal reception, decent battery life. There would be some minor bugs like others, but this is Nexus, so no worries about update to fix it.

My Droid 1 and Droid X1 vs. my RAZR? No comparison. Those 2 have outdated junk, gpu's...lol Still love em tho. For those looking for the absolute best benchmarks and specs...look somewhere else. As someone who got a Droid X1 July last year and the GS1 came out a few months later, and was very happy with my DX1....benchmarks and specs dont make up the entire picture, only part of it.

On the GPU, it's more than capable. It does some things better than the Exynos GPU, like HD video rendering as opposed to 3D graphic rendering. It's also has a higher capacity to handle more advanced tech. So again it's more of preference. Keep in mind this phone would have won the Gaming and Entertainment category at CTIA.

Here's what I know: The Tegra 3 will be out in tablets in less than 30 days, and we'll probably start seeing it in phones sometime around Q1/Q2 next year. The SGX 540 in this Nexus is a slight improvement over Tegra 2, but it won't hold a candle to Tegra 3 (5x the performance of Tegra 2). So yeah, the Galaxy Nexus will be completely outdated in terms of GPU performance in 6 months or less. Have fun playing all those Tegra Zone games at 5 FPS.

You might not think that's a big deal, but with the emphasis shifting from Flash and native apps to WebGL/HTML5 it could be huge.

I still believe I'm going to buy this phone . I'm loving my Rezound , it really is an amazing phone, best phone camera I've used and the screen is gorgeous but Sense just is not for me . I really want Vanilla ICS (I know the Rezound will get this as well) also I want the bigger screen . There is definetly some draw backs to the Gnex but nothing major

I thought the viewable screen of the galaxy is the same as the rezound? Is it true they list the galaxy with a larger screen size to accommodate the home button?

I might actually grab Tegra3 Transformer Prime for gaming early next year. My transformer is still great tablet. I'm fine with Nexus SGX540 GPU being outdated next year in gaming as I don't consider Nexus as primary gaming device. But it will do video playing/streaming, UI acceleration very well and that's the reason why Google chose it for nexus.

I personally think Tegra chip is more suited for tablets than phones. Tegra2 this year didn't make big splash in phones as much as Nvidia hoped and it was mostly powering android tablets. It remains to be seen if this will change with Tegra3. There are also S4 snapdragon, quad core 4412 exynos in phones next year that will give it run for money.

I didn't like the Rarz. I dunno, I played with it a few times, I just didn't like the physical feel and look of it. I did like the Rezound more, but I wasn't a fan of the thickness.

When I went in to the Verizon store, I checked out both the Rezound and Razr. Rezound is also nice but don't care for the skin at all really. The Razr has a brighter more colorful screen, the Rezounds is finer detail but I don't know..just not 'there'. Hard to describe it. But I asked about their return policy. You gotta watch this now because they aren't being up front at ALL about the holiday return policy. The guy said 14 days to begin with until I pressed him on the holiday return policy and then he quickly changed his mind and OH yea, the holiday policy..yea,sure. Jan 15th. Uhuh....so watch that. They're keeping it tightly under raps unless pressed on it. That's just BS if you ask me...
ANYway, who knows...I got plenty of time now to play with the Razr and wait for the Nexus. I may go with it when it comes out...if it ever does,lol....it'll get a long hard look from me though when it does.

Right over the guys head is a 3x3 large return policy sign that reads 'All products have a January return policy, no product excluded'. I nailed him on that....then he spouts some Company crap about 'oh that doesn't APPLY to the phones' nonsense. I said READ your own SIGN right over your head. Still doesn't apply, he says. WHAT total BS!! NO PRODUCT EXCLUDED! Means SOME products excluded,evidently...what kind of BS are these companys pulling? I mean c'mon.....it's getting ridiculous!
