Anyone else waiting for Passion?

Come on! We all know the phone is coming out. Verizon would squash the rumors if it weren't. When I last talked to customer service (Monday) the lady I talked to said she too was awaiting the Passion. She said quite frankly that they usually hear about/are trained on new phones a week in advance. That and $3.50 will buy you a cup of coffee, but the phone will come out sooner or later. Verizon has a lot riding on this phone (IMO this is going to be Verizon's flag-ship phone, not the Droid) so we will see it--just apparently not on Black Friday.

Funny there isn't any talk about the Curve2 dropping then either...

Curve2 dropped on the 20th of November. (yesterday).

Problem is that the official device appeared about 3 weeks before the scheduled launch date:

If we are all hoping for a mid-December launch for the Passion (which I am), we should be getting more than just rumors any day now...
Im skeptical, but, like everyone else that didn't jump on the Droid/Eris, I really want the PASSION!!!

I can't believe how much time I waste looking for any new info on this stupid phone. I WANT IT BAD too!!! I don't even know why I want it so bad, since the iphone I have is pretty good. Something about a new toy for gadget nerds like us that we just can't resist.... :D

I showed my friend, who tests these phones, the picture of the HTC Passion from theunlockr site and he confirmed that he had tested it.

I hope that isn't the real picture.... :( The HD2 looks SO MUCH BETTER than the plastic looking thing with the lower central button you see on unlockr.

Funny that the Curve2 should drop with little if not any fan-fare. I didn't even get an email from Verizon and it isn't even front-and-center on the page. Wierd...

Gives me hope that we still MIGHT see the Passion drop Black Friday. If so I will be in line to see it and MAYBE trade my Droid for it. Still have not been home to take my new Droid out of the box yet...

Personally I like it, if you've ever used a trackball with Android you probably know it's pretty essential to the experience.

yea. its really weird that the curve2 got little to no fanfare/commotion considering that it is a follow-up to the bigseller: the original curve.

For all of those that think the leaked images of the passion are distasteful, I actually like the appearance of it. it has a more eris-esk look and it looks more pocketable. the trackball is indeed essential to the android experience. i must agree with wonderbread.

i hope htc execs look at all of the phone forums(especially android forums;)) and blogs and see how much people want this device and they announce it soon. maybe we will hear something later today when engadget talks to an htc guy.

I haven't played with the trackball. When I played with the Eris, I just used the screen. It seems to me the trackball is a distraction that keeps your fingers moving back and forth off the screen. But, since I have no experience actually using it, I'll have to trust you guys on this one.... :D

the trackball comes in handy for me if i make a mistake in typing a txt/website. if you hit the spot where you made the mistake with your finger, it won't get to the exact spot. you can get there, though, with the trackball. also, if you're feeling lazy and/or don't wanna smudge up your screen as much, it comes in handy.

Just checked my receipt for my eris, and it says:
"All Items purchased between November 15 and December 14 may be returned or exchanged through January 13, 2010."

even though right above it, it says 30 day's.

So yeah.. if you bought your droid after the 15th you have till the Jan 13th see what happens with the passion.

haha. "THe Passion".. that just sounds funny.. is there going to be a special Mel Gibson edition?

Well decided to keep my droid after realizing how much easier it is to play games with the d-pad and keyboard. Good luck with the Passion everyone. It's going to be a great phone.

I am taking my Eris back later and getting my Dare turned on temporarily until these new phones come out. I liked the Eris, but the battery life was horrible. I know their are tricks to get it to last longer, but I don't want a complicated smart phone. The battery saving features should kick in automatically-things like turning off network if idle for longer than 10 minutes and quitting applications.

I may get the Omnia 2. Battery on that is supposed to last two days.
I was getting 6-7 hours with the Eris.

I wish I felt the same way. I love my Droid, have had it since release day but the problem is i have used the physical keyboard maybe twice. I really didnt think I would like the on screen keyboards but google has done an excellent job with them. in a weird OCD kind of way I want to get the passion because it doesnt have the keyboard that I am not using anyway :p

I may actually pay the $35 restocking fee and "return and rebuy" the droid tomorrow. This should extend my new return till Jan 13th and give the passion time to come out. If it doesn't come out by then, the Droid will be a keeper.

So I have a droid that I bought on nov 6 and I want to return it to best buy to wait for the passion but there is a tiny scratch on it...will I still be able to return it?

Also, how much are ya'll thinking the passion will be?

They will accept the return. I would highly recommend bringing in your old phone to reactivate until the phone you want comes out so you can avoid the $35 restocking fee. The fee only applies if you exchange the phone you have for another new phone within your 30-day trial period. I returned my Droid and went back to my old phone and avoided any extra charges.

Given that the Droid is $200 with contract, I would say the Passion would be $200-250. Even with better specs they'll want to make the introductory price as attractive as possible. They make their cash on data plans.

Curious - how do you find out if you have VIP status? In my case, I have a family share plan (voice & data for 2 BB Storms), and it seems like all the rules change when you have a Family Share account (regarding things like VIP, NE2, and rebates). For a while, I couldn't do anything to change my plan online because I had a Family Share plan. But I'm writing a check to VZW for around $240/month...so I'd think I'd qualify as a VIP.

Agreed--it depends on the manager. My neighborhood store will do just about anything for me. VIP status MAY have something to do with it...

As an aside I couldn't wait any longer. Since all indicators are that Passion will be pushed back to mid-December I pulled the trigger and ordered the Droid today. Customer support assured me I have till January 13th to return it if I don't like it "...for any reason, no questions asked." We shall see. Maybe I will have gotten used to the Droid's "feel" by then...

I have a 3 line family share with 2 lines that have data plans and I am a vip. My bill runs close to $200 a month. You can just call a CSR and they will be able to tell you.

No FCC no passion.

Good point, anexanhume. Also, from what I understand there's still plenty of time for it to be submitted and passed before mid-December. Now, if there's still no hard evidence by December 7th or so, we should start worrying.

I'm starting to lose faith... Might have to go iPhone 4g.

It's possible that they could clear it through the FCC through some corporation they set up. The PS3 slim cleared the FCC through some odd named company that Sony had created to hide the item :D

There's that and you only need 2 weeks between the FCC and launch, if even that. The BB Storm 2 hit the FCC on Oct 16th and launched Oct 28, 12 days. So it does not take a long time.

Oh yeah I know, I was just talking about a release for the end of this week (someone mentioned black friday). Then again hume had a possibility. TBH I like to be the negative one and then only pleasantly surprised. Find it works better than constant disappointment with these kinda things.

The Tour was the same. Approved June 29, released July 12.

After finally watching the Engadget show. Here is my concern and it's certainly not the FCC. Is this phone or one like it going to come out, of course it will. For me it's the matter of when and how long we can wait. As a phone nerd I have watched the evolution of rumor into phone numerous times and never during that time have a seen a phone with so few leaks, photos and reliable information be released within the month timeframe we are looking at for a mid-december release. Especially when it comes to HTC and it being a US Carrier device. Either this is the most secretive (which I know they might try and be because of the Droid, keyword "try") or, and I hope I'm wrong, but I don't know that this will be out before the end of the year. Hopefully I am very wrong, but since we have no real info I thought I would kill some time with this.
