Anyone with an EVO try tethering vita PDANet?

i did it last night, and it works great (i'm only on 3g, but still works great)! i hope it still works after upgrading to froyo.

Yea people saying a charge, I dl the app it was free, is there an internal charge that comes once I try to connect?

If youre referring to pdanet its going to give you a trial period. After a certain amount of time its going to stop working and youll have to buy it.

But the internet access via tethering itself is free and the only charges accrued are those using Sprint Hotspot?

I appreciate the replies. I can live with PDANet if the tethering give doesn't incur the $30/mo charge. That's what I'm asking.

PDANet + EVO + PC ≠ $30?

no, pda net is free for unsecure sites, for secure you must upgrade to the pro or paid version.

the free version does not expire.

Correct

not quite, you wont use the internet sharig feature on the phone, leave that setting to charge only, you will also have to turn on the debugging (at least for PDAnet)

Has anyone got a "htc error -2" when trying to connect to pdanet? Mine used to work prior to the "unofficial update".

edit...I meant "htc sync error -2"

I purchased PDANet a few weeks ago. Works fine for me. A small price to pay for tethering as far as I am concerned. FYI, I decided to try WiFi with it...pointless I know.

I switched the WiFi off on my laptop, initialized PDANet on both sides and verified it was working. So, why not try WiFi. I turned it on on the EVO and voila, it worked. I know it was functioning because the 3G symbol disappeared and my speed tests jumped from about 1.8-2.2mb down to 12+mb down.

Useless but worth trying anyway. PDANet is pretty snappy, no lag that I can detect through my laptop connection.

Has anyone tried PDANet or EasyTether with Ubuntu? I have the free PDANet working on my Windows PC's just fine, but my "recreational laptop" at work runs Ubuntu and Im not finding a PDANet app download for it. I've read that iPhone has a method to use with Ubuntu, but it doesn't work the same for Android

is there any way to tune pdanet? i can't seem to get much above 1.3 megs down, even tho the phone is pulling well above that? does the purchased version run faster?

I'm able to use PDANet on my PC and have internet connection. However when I try to use MS VPN I can't connect. Anyone have any tweeks or setting suggestions?

ive been using pda.net since november. Whats the difference of secure and not secure sites? I havent noticed anything. I have the free version

Secure sites have a URL like this: https://
Non secure sites have a URL without the final s like this: http://

Most banking and shopping checkout sites, any site that has account numbers or personal information SHOULD be using a secure site so that the data is encrypted.

i can get the stock froyo USB internet sharing to work fine if the phone is conected to a wiresless network... over 3G it doesnt work.... now, if i had a wireless signal close, i can just use my laptop anyways... what gives? so i guess this only works for PCs without a wireless adapter...

Is PDANet better than EasyTether? I saw ET first and installed that and it seems to be working well. Just wondering if there are any reasons to go with PDANet instead.
