Root AOSP build question

I was looking at all the AOSP roms and am I right to say they are all built off The CyanogenMod build of android except maybe MIUI? The reason im asking is im a little concerned because I wana run some AOSP but I have CM7 on a nandroid that i got working like i want it but use mikg as my daily. Well yesterday I nandroided to cm7 to show my brother and it booted fine but about 5min of playing around with it it rebooted and went into a boot loop. I just pulled the battery waited a couple seconds and when i put the battery back in it went right to the boot loop. I thought I was done but a second pull let me into recovery so i could nend back to mikg. I have never had a random reboot with a sense rom other than with setcpu set to high. I was thinking on giving up on cm7 and trying one of the other roms but it seemd that they are all based off cm and some havent had any updates in a while. Well thanks for any input and also i was using the kernel that comes with cm and no changes like setcpu or supercharger. and ofcorse i wiped properly before flashing originaly.
 
Yeah, I've noticed that too. You'll see a rom here or there they says they are built off of original source.. I find it refreshing.

I don't want this to be taken the wrong way:
I'm no dev, and I highly respect what they do and doing it for free, but to me, it seems like if you are putting it all that effort into a rom, you might as well build the source yourself. I like to think that if/when I ever build a rom, I'll be compiling source myself. Still, the devs are way cooler than me, and using CM source isn't a bad thing by any means.
 
Try evo deck, it's built off of CM but it's a cleaned up version. It doesn't have the built in ADW launcher for instance. Very stable, very fast. I am using it with the Tiamat LEE kernel and the ICS theme for CM7 and love it.
 
Actually MUIU is built off of CM7. I like Xplod and Evervolv Both have been very stable ROMS for me. Yes Both are Built off of CM7.

Thanks even miui hmm. I just dont want to end up in that unfixable bootloop i have seen some have. I know its only a few compared to howmany people are using cm7 but with my luck ill be the next.
 
At least if it's a bootloop, no one will ever know you are rooted (unless they trace you down to this account... <delete this message after reading> )

EDIT: I believe I meant "brick" above and not bootloop. I'm blaming lack of sleep...

yeah i hear ya kinda been paranoid of using AOSP myself and I love it more than sense.
 
If you're getting boot loops then something went wrong. Like maybe a bad wipe prior to restoring or a corrupted backup maybe. At this point cm7 should be just as stable as a sense rom.

Not entirely true. Any custom splash screen would be a dead giveaway and possibly a custom bootanimation depending on how far the bootloop got before restarting.

They'll know it's rooted because if they go to the bootloader screen, they'll see s-off. That's why I didn't take my phone in. S-off is kinda a dead give away:p

Paranoid? I don't think you need to be paranoid because I believe the whole situation with these phones with the endless bootloop is just bad luck, imo;)

If it's in an endless bootloop, there won't be a custom boot screen because you will never get past the white htc evo 4g screen. Again, bootloader with s-off is the dead give away of a rooted phone but who knows how many people will look at that, now that's the question;)

Thats what I is Fraid of :D Bad Luck just happens to find me in the most UNWANTED of places :( However I just saved 15% on my adult f:eek:

I was under the impression that if you brick your phone then you can not get to the hboot... ?

RE: decks, I disagree. The advanced settings are the exact same as the CM settings, and virtually all of his updates coincide with CM7 updates.
