[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

Not sure I understand. Are you talking about the ring tone? It's continuous meaning no pause at all? Should only ring a few times before the call is transferred to voicemail. Would also suggest updating to 1.1.2. You can adjust the ringtone used by the app from the app audio/echo settings. There's a ringtone override setting.

Thank you for your response and your assistance.

I uninstalled the old version and installed the new 1.1.2 version initially with no change in the ring tone. Phone responded with the same continuous tone on incoming calls.
I changed the ringtone and the issue was fixed then. I should have done this earlier. Guessing the original Android ROM based Default Ring Tone has an issue in current state.

Your help was appreciated.

No problem. Glad it's working.

I recently installed Groove IP Lite on an inactivated phone for my mom so she could make calls while traveling to Japan. It worked wonderfully, saved her a ton of money.

My only issue so far is I wish the letter characters next to the numbers on the keypad were slightly larger. They are a bit difficult to read on the phone's 320X480 resolution screen.

Just got 1.3.2 from Amazon. No longer stays logged in. Can make a call then turns itself off. Never had this problem before, always auto signed in with Wi-Fi, and showed in notification. Nexus 7.

edit: after a reboot, all is well.

We had planned on improving those in the last update. But the hurricane caused some problems. Once things are back to normal that's something we're looking at.

Another item on my wish list is the ability for Groove IP to overwrite the Android touch sound when DTMF is turned on. One sound is enough for audio feedback.

The native dialer in Android turns off the touch sounds automatically.

The issue is the native dialer isn't restricted to api's available via the sdk. If there's a way to do that via the sdk we'll see about adding it. But generally things like that aren't exposed.

This doesn't necessarily wholly involve GrooVe IP, but I was just wondering what happens to your Google Voice #/account if at some point in the future you lose access to the forwarding number that Google requires initially for setup. Right now, I am using for a forwarding number a Skypeout number that expires at the end of December, and I was considering switching to this Google Voice # on my Android device (with no wireless carrier service currently) by way of this nifty GrooVe IP application. Will I be in trouble if the Skypeout number expires with no other forwarding numbers added?

I don't believe it'll be an issue if the number expires.

Hello ...

Big thanks for the program. Up to this point I have used it for 1yr or so ... no problems.. ya the audio was some times a problem. 99% my settings so no problems ..

How we switched a new firewall ( Smothwall ) was installed and it no longer works ... here is where I need help. Here is the error message....

Network error:could not reach Google servers. Please ensure talk.Google.com and port 5222 are open in your network firewall

Now I have gone to the firewall and pointed port to my table '5222' and nothing same error even try 5000-6000 still nothing ... what am I missing here

And even if I can't get it to work for the time I have used it it was been grate,

Thanks for all your work. John (n3ovo1@gmail.com)

Thanks! I used the free (ad-laden) version of your app earlier today. I made one call, but the person on the other end complained of a lot of static (whereas calling on Skype was much clearer). Hopefully, this was just a temporary glitch at Google Voice. I might go with the $5 app, but hopefully that isn't a prerequisite for clear calls. :p

Call quality should be the same between the two versions. I don't know what type of device you are using, but we do have some settings under troubleshooting that can help on certain devices.

Hi,

I'm not really sure what help I can offer. That error comes out when the app can't reach talk.google.com or tcp port 5222. Somehow one or both of those are still not accessible to the app.

It's the Samsung Galaxy S3. I did see them but wasn't sure if any applied to the problem I was having. I will try some more calls and revisit them if needed. Thanks again.

EDIT: Same person today rated the voice quality 85-90%, so that is very doable. Must've just needed time to initialize on Google's end.

I've been using your app for almost a year now with mostly decent sound quality. In the last few days out going calls can not be heard by the receiver. I've done the clean install a couple times but it's not helped. I even bought another app Spare Phone and both these apps have the same problem of not being able to be heard on outgoing calls. Nothing has been changed on my phone (Virgin Mobile Optimus LG). I've tried keep screen alive and mic buffer to no avail. I use wifi. Do you have any suggestions?

Sounds like something on your network. If you're using WiFi I'd suggest restarting your router and/or modem. If it's over the mobile data connection it could be some issue on the Virgin Mobile side. If you're in the same location you previously were able to make calls it could just be a temporary issue on their end.

Another question that has probably been answered, but a 34-page thread is like a haystack. Is it possible to have both Gmail and GrooVe IP ring simultaneously when I receive incoming calls? Is that a pay feature (if so, it'd be worth the $5 surcharge alone)?

It's not possible. Google will only ring one sign in into Google Chat. GrooVe IP signs in via Google Chat

Recently bought the full app, now that Proximity sensor is working, I just want to turn it off. Can I tell Groove IP to not use the Proximity sensor but leave it working in the native dialer?

Hi,

Turn on Keep Screen Alive from the GrooVe IP troubleshooting settings. That will prevent the app from using the proximity sensor and will not affect your native dialer calls.

What advantage does this app have over the original Google voice app?

GrooVe IP calls over your data connection or over WiFi. The Google Voice app calls using your cell phone minutes. GrooVe IP can make calls on any android device running android 2.1 or above, even if they have no cell plan by using WiFi. Including tablets or inactive cell phones.
