Apple 5 or Galaxy s3

I JUST switched from an Apple iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S III yesterday - anyone who tells you there is no freezing or glitching on an iPhone is lying through their teeth.

While I have not had the chance to use an iPhone 5, I've used an iPhone for the last three years, and quite frankly, I'm tired of being bound by what Apple wants me to be able to do with my phone. Yes, I know you can jailbreak an iPhone, and I did with both of mine, but I like having the freedom to customize just by downloading an app.

I am trying to decide which phone is a good fit. I like both phones , well haven't seen the new Iphone but have seen the Iphone 4. Have talked to a lot of people that have decided to get the Iphone saying that their reason for choosing the Iphone was because " It just works better than an android, no freezing or glitching". I tried a friends Galaxy s3 and it seemed like it was an great device and I didn't notice any problems that were noted by the Iphone crowd. I however only used the phone for about ten minutes and haven't had a lot of exposure. I am leaning towards the Galaxy because the screen size is more appealing for one and the phone seems like you can do more with it. Hope this is a good choose.

SIII (after all this is the SIII forum...sheesh) - I will never buy Apple products - not because they are not good - but because of the Apple business practices.

i have not once owned a top of the line android that "freezes or glitches"
the ones that tend to do that are shitty android phones that cost under 100.....

TBH that's not true, my DroidX sucked, it would lose it's ring-tones, clearly didn't manage the SD card well, would reset itself and do things like lose audio. (and no it wasn't just me --- others had the same problems per the discussion boards). And the DroidX was not a cheap phone.

I've had no such problems with my SIII -- I love it!

MicroNix said "Apple, IMHO has turned rotten."

LMAO we need a spoof logo of a slightly brownish green apple with a worm coming out of it!

This works for me:

I have a new MacBook Pro and Ipad 3. I also have a Galaxy s3. If Apple had come out with more features and a bigger screen in the Ip5 I would switch, but the S3 outclasses the Ip5 in many ways. The display is beautiful. Battery life is superb and I really like having a notification light. I got the 32GB with a 32GB sim card, so I have plenty of storage and I can even add more if I want. It has never frozen up on me. When Jelly Bean comes( Verizon/Oct?) it will be even smoother. I have read about 10 books on the device and it works perfectly. Again, if the Ip5 was better in any way, I would switch, but the S3 suits me in every way. Plus, wireless charging is coming either this month or next.

Hi I'm thinking of getting S3 but also have iPad 3 and MacBook air. How do you keep them all sync?

I think everyone here said everything already?

But just a note, I have an account on iPhoneforums (since june 2011) and created a thread over there on how dissapointing the iPhone 5 was

like no NFC
just a taller screen not wider
cant talk and data at the same time on verizon or sprint

nothing hostal at all and guess what
THE A!! MODS OVER THEIR DELETED THE TRUTH!!!!!!
they deleted my thread , one can not even say the truth over there , at least start a thread about it over there

and I have 1 ipod touch, 1 ipad 1st gen, 1 iphone 4s, 1 zoom tablet, 1 Siii, and had iphone 4 (sold when I got the Siii)

I definitely don't think I'm biased at all, and what I posted is just facts.

Boy talking about not wanting apple fans to hear the truth!!!!!!

Either that or the mods dont want their stocks to go down!

I use smoothsync contacts for iCloud and calendar on the android devices to sync with iCloud, works perfect.

anything else, other will chime in

you could use kies (if it works for you)

Samsung may have forgot a few things. This chip will blow away the S3.
AnandTech - The iPhone 5's A6 SoC: Not A15 or A9, a Custom Apple Core Instead

I think you're a little over speculating a little bit. According to that article:

The bad news is I have no details on the design of Apple's custom core. Despite Apple's willingness to spend on die area, I believe an A15/Krait class CPU core is a likely target. Slightly wider front end, more execution resources, more flexible OoO execution engine, deeper buffers, bigger windows, etc... Support for VFPv4 guarantees a bigger core size than the Cortex A9, it only makes sense that Apple would push the envelope everywhere else as well. I'm particularly interested in frequency targets and whether there's any clever dynamic clock work happening. Someone needs to run Geekbench on an iPhone 5 pronto.

I've bolded the author's true speculation and his all important caveat. There simply too much speculation revolved around this A6 processor to make any definitive evaluation on it. But expect Snapdragon S4 Krait like performance, which would put the iPhone 5 in the same range of every other US smartphone. It may be faster or slower, or exactly the same. Either way, it won't be a huge difference, as I see it.

Is that from the play store thingy and is it available at the UK? What about photo stream to apple tv?

Just curious why you got an android phone not iPhone?

Sounds like they not only have their own ecosystem but their own planet too. Or maybe it's an apple shaped space station lead by Darth Jobs?

We have LTE and 2GB RAM which outweighs the quad core CPU. The quad core is only slightly faster that the dual core anyway. :D

I've read numerous times that the S4 versions requires more memory than the Exynos version which is why they included 2GB of memory. Which I tend to believe as it wouldn't make sense otherwise.

But I have to wonder why didn't HTC come to the same conclusion with the One X/S.

That said even the most memory intensive games don't use anywhere near enough to max out 1GB, nevermind 2GB.

My question is how would i5 compare to the s3 international version with the quad processor and does i5 have a quad core processor. I haven't seen the specs for the iPhone yet.

because they haven't been released. according to anandtech tho they were told the iPhone 5 uses an ARM dual core architecture of Apple's own design.

Still, if performance and power usage is similar, what does it matter? The S3's LTE dual core performs similarly to the European Quad core and you couldn't tell the difference running them side by side.

Specs are cool for bragging rights but don't necessarily mean anything in real world application.

Hi , and thank you for your interest on what I did.

first here is a link to (I think just the us play store, I dont know how to get to the uk one) they come up to about $7 us dollars for me.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=smoothsync+for+cloud

I don't own an apple tv, but I can view photos on my sony TV thu wifi.

DLNA-capable or AllShare enabled should all work.

Now the last question.

I had a windows mobile phone ver 6 os, back in the day (of course many just plain phones before that), then the 1st motorola droid, it was great compared to the windows phone I had but it had it's lock up problems.

Then I purchased the moto Droid X, much better than the moto droid, lots less issus but still had some (note I rooted and tried many roms for both also).

Then the iPhone 4 came to versizon, now I also have a mac pro (2008 2 quad core chips with 14 gig ram, just as fast as any today for everything I do) and a macbook pro and the computers are second to none (I've built many PC's over the years. Now I dont own a PC recently so ??)

So my brother and sister purchased iPhones when they came to verizon and always wondered why I dont have one yet, well I loved the customization of the android, moving wallpapers,ect.. that iPhone cant do (trust me not even jailbroken, if you did it like I have jailbroken and tried many themes and widgets, then these customizations took the iphone to its knees crawling and locking up when you needed it most, on both 4 and 4s)

Now a little off track here but I had a credit card deal going, if I spend x amount of dollars for 6 months they would give me $500 cash back, last year, so in june of 2011 I needed to spend $500 more in 2 days for that month (please people everyone spends differently) so my wife said why not get the iPhone 4 32 gig and some accessories and I did and sold my droid x for $190 cash.

Then in January of 2012 my wife wanted a iPhone so I said I'll give you mine and get the 4s for myself (mainly to see what all the hype was about on the 4s and to get a 64 gig one). Boy was I disappointed in the very very slight increase in speed (even tho it was hyped by apple to be some super fast bla bla bla..) and siri to me worked 40% of the time but never when I needed it most.

Now came June 2012 and I actually gave up the jailbreak and restored the phone without jailbreak to get it functional again all the time.

So I came across a great deal on the moto zoom 32 gig wifi tablet (cause I was getting really tied of struggling looking at a iphone 3.5" screen).
Boy was I surprised and loved the zoom that I started to think about changing my phone. Then apple introduced IOS 6 and I saw no inovation in that so..

So I read up on the galaxy Siii and its specs being 2 gig and 32 gig storage I knew this was going to be a killer phone (and it has been), but also I got it to keep my unlimited data, but in all honesty, my iphone times were good but I love widgets and moving wallpaper, and and the android apps are actually getting better than ios apps (in some cases) cause of the limits on ios, that apple does not allow.

Now also I HATE APPLE SUING every one and trying to charge outrageous amounts for patents, so now knowing my siii is just as stable as iphone and with widgets and moving wallpapers (zoom is also) I see what people are talking about and will most likely never buy apple again (until they change their attitude) or recommend them because of this STUPID PATENT SH!!.
Who patents a shape of a phone, what if I patent a car, 2 or 4 doors, a hood and a trunk, who else could make one....

If someone made a patent on a light bulb then we would most likely never have LED, we need to innovate and apple is tying to stop everyone from doing so, or trying to get rich and not innovate anymore themselves.

Look at the iPhone 5 and IOS 6, there is no more inovation in either, just minor changes and hype to sell. Sorry for the rant on apple...

Now the note 2 is coming to verizon (I hope) and I will be getting that, Why well I like big screens and my wife after seing my Siii is tied of looking at the small iPhone screen and wants mine. I sold my used iphone for $325 with some accessories and will sell the 4s for $400 (I hope) when I get my note 2.

All in all I love the android os WAAYYY better than ios, because of the choices in phones and customization, if I want a 4", 4.3", 4.8", 5.5" android I can get it, something you will never ever get with apple, they tell you what your getting (this I only saw since recently).

the main reason is I want a BIG SCREEN, Widgets, and moving wallpapers.

any more questions please ask..
thanks for reading

well Dfran1
everything said there :)
with Android YOU have the choice
with Apple YOU get what THEY wants you to

sad they don't actually understand most of those features, the comments don't really make sense... 3/10 good try.

That is just the stereotype of Apple=locked down, too simple, for your parents and Android=freedom, choice, power users only. It's bull.

1) Both platforms are mired in business deals and the lure of profits preventing the way the OS should be used. Don't buy into the "Don't be evil" marketing bs that Google preaches. This and the whole Droid marketing campaign are just as guilty of promoting a brand image as Apple and their ads and WWDC.

2) Both platforms are businesses. You can say Apple is evil and Google is Neo in the Matrix of mobile technology, but that's not the case. We all know what Apple does, so there's no point in beating that in.

Read this: Google's Andy Rubin fires back at Aliyun OS, says there's 'no disputing' it's built on Android | The Verge

Google stopped Acer from developing a Aliyun OS phone because it was a "non-compatible build of Android." Um... open source? What's that again? Free to use... as long as you use it the way we want you to use it? Since when does Google step in to prevent companies using Android? Slowly Google is turning the screws on other companies. The bottom line is that it's all business. That's it.

3) With rooting/jailbreaking, the power user/idiot division of iOS/Android is a pointless argument. And lots of Android users are not rooting and toying around with the finer details. I don't do that- all my friends who have an Android phone don't do that either and love their phones. And Android is easy to use- it's the menus and submenus for various options that can get confusing. Really that's it.

The bottom line is, don't buy into the marketing BS and get caught up in this battle between Apple and Google. Don't buy into the fanboy arguments- that's exactly what Google and Apple want you to do- they want you to be locked into their way of doing things without exploring the other options and making your own decision.
