Apple's iPhone4S vs. LG Esteem

Okay, spent a few hours comparing this phone to the iPhone4S.

1. The iPhone has a nice white blue background lite. The Esteem is more yellowish and with less contrast.

2. Several times the 4G network didn't work, that is the microphone had a red line through it. And after dictating speec-to-text, it would be on "working" for way too long, yet I was in a good signal area and the 4G emblem was lit. Had to reboot the device four times today to make it work. Not good.

3. The speech to text was about as good as Siri on the iPhone. Siri knew when capital letters were appropriate, the Esteem did not.

4. In line YouTube videos did not start. Instead I had to tap several times until it asked if I wanted YouTube. Tapping on YouTube then started the video in a new screen.


Does the Esteem always require rebooting several times a day ?

well all i can say is: Yes you need to reboot your phone if it gives you issues. The rebooting is a feature of every blackberry..LOL . The 4G issues is a given since not every cell towel is 4G and those that do have 4G are over worked.

Had mine since Sept 30th and I have never had to reboot due to any issues, but I have heard others with problems that either rebooting or toggling airplane mode on then off (network issues) seemed to fix some of their issues. In fact, I leave the phone on all the time. I have only had a little lag from crappy apps that once removed, resolved my lag issue.
 
the simple fact that apple doesn't allow you to have sd cards is enough for me to never buy one of their phones. you spend an extra $200 to get more memory...come on now.
 
I'm finding the Esteem disappointing. When using the voice to text it hangs up on "working" but never finishes. I've had to reboot the device many times because of:

a) failure to surf
b) microphone failing to start or being unavailable
c) text messages not being sent

Yet I am always the the 4G area, at least by the emblem at the top of the screen.

Several people have said my voice quality is better on my old Samsung phone.

Haven't yet installed Juice Defender.
You also have to keep in mind you cant really compare a high-end phone to a mid-end phone ;)
 
i have the best of both worls -- the ESTEEM for my cellphone/communications device, and an ipod touch 4G with 64GB as my music/creative apps/fun device.....


both are very good at what they do.

i would not be able to afford an iphone 2 year contract....but for $60 per month thru metro, i am all good!

i love the apps for the i-devices -- PLENTY of killer music,video, and other creative apps......i make music on mine, as well as edit videos.

use the best tool for the job!


and my two devices and chargers and accessories all fit into ONE small bag, along with my solar charger and my two rechargable battery pack chargers -- so in the event of no AC power, i will be powered up all the time, as long as the sun still shines :D
 
Too often this Esteem fails to process dictated messages, and fails to surf. It shows the 4G emblem, but there is occasionally only a white upward arrow, never a red arrow or downward arrow. Turning the Wi-fi on and off and powering off then on the phone does not cure this.

This is disappointing. The phone is very good when it works.... but that is not more than 70% of the time.

Thats one reason why i said" Metro needs to move their butt and put more 4G antennas" that would solve the 4G issues. I had the same problem with the indulge during the summer time. no 4G at home at all . Once i leave my home...bang 4G :(
 
yes metro is still extending their 4g service and by the end of the first quarter 4g will be amazing.;)

Then go to the Metrocorp store and tell then about the 4G issues you are having. I did with my first indulge i had zero connectivity and later found out the antenna was fried. Not sure about the Esteem if thats the case.

After it failed joining 4G most of the day, I did return to a Metro store. Airplane turned on the off solved the problem for maybe five minutes. I'd love this phone if it were reliable. I'll call LG tech support before giving up.

Have you tried a system restore?
 
You are the first person to mention this. How is it done ? Does it need to be done on a brand new phone ? Will it erase what is stored now ?

Yes everything will be erased. but all phone numbers and calender settings will be stored in your gmail account.

This can be done two ways.

1. Settings/Privacy settings/ Factory data reset

2. Turn your phone off, press the center of the volume buttons then hold power till you see the LG screen. Let go of power while still holding the volume button. Then just follow directions the phone gives you after that.

I am not sure if they both restore the phone the same way but i believe they do.

give it a try, the worst that can happen is you will have to redownload all your apps which can be done very fast from the android market website since it keeps a record of all your previously downloaded apps and you can push them to your phone directly from the site.

yes everything will be erase, but your pic shouldn't it should be save to internal or external memory but if you click format internal memory it will erase everything on there also.

If it is a software problem that should fix it. If it is a hardware issue then it wouldnt.

Nothing in your internal memory or sdcard will be deleted.
 
LG Tech support was of no help. I spoke with three different support people. They said to return the phone, and blamed only MetroPCS for this problem.

If the restore didn't work then i suggest you take it back to metro and exchange it for another one. i believe you have 30 days.
