Apple's iPhone4S vs. LG Esteem

Okay, spent a few hours comparing this phone to the iPhone4S.

1. The iPhone has a nice white blue background lite. The Esteem is more yellowish and with less contrast.

2. Several times the 4G network didn't work, that is the microphone had a red line through it. And after dictating speec-to-text, it would be on "working" for way too long, yet I was in a good signal area and the 4G emblem was lit. Had to reboot the device four times today to make it work. Not good.

3. The speech to text was about as good as Siri on the iPhone. Siri knew when capital letters were appropriate, the Esteem did not.

4. In line YouTube videos did not start. Instead I had to tap several times until it asked if I wanted YouTube. Tapping on YouTube then started the video in a new screen.

Does the Esteem always require rebooting several times a day ?

that's exactly the reason why I developed this app:
http://androidforums.com/esteem-all-things-root/439185-lg-esteem-optimizer-now-market.html

I've got more patches i'm adding to it daily, just testing it for any bugs before my next release. I was getting even worse problems than you. By default this phone has a "turned on" life of about a day or 2 tops before things piss you off badly. From what i've seen there's a few areas where the LG engineers a little uneducated.

Please make this app for an unrooted or native phone. My battery usage report today showed 90% to the Andrid System. Is that normal ?

My background has been true, no yellowing, very clear and sharp at about 20% brightness indoors. I use my images for wallpapers so I know what they should look like. You may have a bum phone. Can happen with any tech device from any manufacture. I have never had to reboot my Esteem in the month I've had it but I turn it off for charging maybe twice a week (recharge daily unfortunately - 4G). Reboot my computer too during the week just to clear everything out and start fresh. YouTube has never been a problem nor music streaming from Last.fm. I live in the NYC area where Metro's network isn't the best. Sometimes connecting to a Web site is slow. But areas in Florida and California where Metro has 3G and unlocked 4G things seem to be great. Looking forward to that by me. Haven't tried voice yet. Suggest you go back to Metro for a replacement phone.

Yes, at times. Sometimes I get the Android System at 90% or more. For some weird reason as I write this the Android System is at 69%, Cell standby is at 19% and Phone idle is at 12%. Never saw these percentages before. I wouldn't worry about battery %s since no matter what is using the battery, usage is always listed at 100%

Too often this Esteem fails to process dictated messages, and fails to surf. It shows the 4G emblem, but there is occasionally only a white upward arrow, never a red arrow or downward arrow. Turning the Wi-fi on and off and powering off then on the phone does not cure this.

This is disappointing. The phone is very good when it works.... but that is not more than 70% of the time.

Turn airplane mode off then on and your 4G symbol will turn green (active).

Trust me I read your post and I will it at that n stand by my post ;)

But back on topic!!!!!!, the esteem is a very nice phone from what I have seen of it. I have one being sent to me to dev with, so expect some stuff being available for it soon ;)

This ChazzMatt dude just runs around going WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG. Kinda like a troll. Ahahaha Jesus.

Here is my reason the LG ESTEEM LG ESTEEM VS IPHONE 4s - YouTube

My boss has an Iphone and is an avid Apple product user, has a Mac comp, Ipad (actually 2) and 3 Iphones if you count his, his wife's and his daughters and when I showed him the Esteem he said something I thought I'd never hear. "You have totally convinced me on these Androids. I dont know why I have knocked them so much. Instead of getting the Iphone 4s (he always has to have the newest one) Im seriously thinking Im going to get an Android Instead."

only thing i like from apple is the ipods.

the iphones i feel restricted like having a mac computer

android will always win over apple/iphone because to the customization you can do and feeling unrestricted like a pc

just my opinion

Yeah dude I hate Apple BUT I LOVE my Ipod touch ahaha If any droid made a damn Ipod like the touch I would ditch it ahaha

Things got worse. The Esteem was useful on voice to text, surfing, and message sending maybe 10% of the time, and when connected to 4G, it would still drop the connection. Called Execs at LG and they admitted it is a software problem in their phone model, not just my model, and I should return the handset.

I did return it three days ago. Good riddance. No more frustrations. It may be a month before there is a fix. In the meantime my calls are solid with a cheap Samsung phone on Verizon, and I'll use my computer or iPad for anything else. Simple.

I have not had one problem, with making and receiving calls, sending and receiving SMS' and MMS', have not lost 4G one time or reverted to 1x let alone data and I have yet to catch it with less then 3 bars of signal even when inside. I did lose signal completely once but it had nothing to do with the phone it was just a dead spot and I was 30 feet from the beach where my boss actually dropped a call on his Iphone.

ive tinked with iphones.. ive tinkered with android phones.. im a customizer.. i want my phone to look like and do what i want it to.. thats not really an option with the iphone, but with android the possibilities are endless. that the key factor to me. and once the recovery and a few roms are available for the esteem. it will go from being a great phone to an awesome phone. a few kernel tweaks and the battery life should be exceptional, adding a app called sceebl to my opt m has taken my battery life from about 12 hours to almost 1.5 days. cant wait to see how it all comes together on the esteem. iphones are quick.. no lag.. everything is where you want it when you want it.. but your kinda stuck with how they want it to look. not very many things you can change.. just my 2 cents.

You are on a different network in a different part of the country, and probably using a different firmware and software revision.

If and when the phone is made usable for the purposes intended, I'll probably give it a whirl again. However, by the time this severe bug is eliminated, I might have the iPhone5.

If its a known software/firmware problem as you stated LG stated to you, and as you believe I have a different software/firmware version, they wouldnt go "Oh lets just update phones in Fla and screw the other 98% of the owners they can wait 6 months!" and Metro isnt going to use different networks in different parts of the states for the simple fact no ones phone would work unless they were in their home state. ALL their towers are identical. None of any of that makes sense. And since everyones elses phones work beautifully its obviously not a "problem with the phone model"

Have no idea, but many Esteem owners are having similar or identical problems in this area. Whether it's the Metro network, the Esteem, or a combination thereof, it is NOT satisfactory now (and too frustrating).

It will all be corrected within a month. If they make the battery life longer, and the problems are corrected, good chance I'd repurchase the phone. LG Corp is to respected for admitting the problems exist.
