are we ever getting gingerbread?

two methods of rooting, that i have found to be the easiest, are Gingerbreak(rooting your phone by using an app) and Superoneclick(using a one click method by using a program on your computer).now both methods root your phone, but the rest,(installing a recovery, and rom) you have to do on your own, which may seem scary when reading how to do so, but as long as you follow the instructions to the letter, then you will think, "that wasnt that hard at all!"

The SuperOneClick version that has to be used on the "V" is 1.6.3. You can only use the shell root option and then push su and Busybox with a command prompt.
This doesn't work on the 2.2.2 phones as the bootloader is locked.

actually, i used this version found here: [APP]SuperOneClick v2.3.2 - Better LG Phone Support! - xda-developers
when i was rooting my old V that has the cracked black screen (just random curiosity to see if it were possible to root a phone without the use of its screen, and then use the screen viewer program and control the phone through my computer) and it worked flawlessly!
but it was the 1st gen of V's.
all i did was connect my phone via USB, started SuperOneClick, and clicked Root, and it worked.

I have a V and a Galaxy Player (with 2.3.5), and I really see no difference at all in Froyo and Gingerbread. I have GO Launcher on both, and while the Player is slightly faster, it's not because it's Gingerbread. Battery readings are all messed up on GB (at least on the Player 5.0). If the V had a 5" screen I'd be happy with it... but I'm about to trade it in for a Paylo phone. I've used it maybe 20 minutes in the past month.

I'm not familiar with your other phone, but with how mine is setup, I'm more than happy with it. It keeps up with my nephews iPhone. Mine is rooted, his is jailbroken.

I feel like I remember reading that VM has confirmed it will not be releasing over the air gingerbread for the Optimus V. I am currently searching for the article... :o

I was wondering about that myself. If they do offer the update, I am still not sure if I will do it. I heard that updating to Gingerbread really messed up some peoples phones.

i called lg because on their website it says that the optimus v was upgradeable to 2 . 3 , when i called they told me to hold and then said i would have to go to a virgin mobile store and have them update my phone . so i said okay , me living in DC there is no virgin mobile store that does that , only retailers . so someone told me to go to BOOST Mobile since they are merged together , right now im looking for a Boost Store in my area that does it instead of the retailers . So in fact the OV can be updated to 2.3 .

Dunno why they told you that. It's not true. :( Even though both are owned by Sprint, they don't work like that where one subsidiary will upgrade the rom for another subsidiary. Otherwise dozens of others here on the forums would of posted about it a long time ago. The only way you're going to get 2.3 right now is if you root the phone and install a custom rom. If you're not willing to do that, then you will have to wait along with every other VM customer with an OpV for them to publicly announce an OTA upgrade. When they do this, everyone will know about it (just like last time when they did an OTA update for the Intercept... it was all over the mobile news sites and on forums).

(Bold mine)

When they do this? That just gives people hope, amiga. :p IF, IF, IF...big if, as in probably never gonna happen. I hope to be proven wrong. :)

P.S. I love that I posted a bunch of stuff in this thread that I have no memory of writing, lol.

P.S. Those memory blackouts are a sure sign of OLD AGE sneaking up on you.

Edit: I know, It tried to sneak up on me but it made so much noise (that snap, crackle, pop is coming from my bones) that I had a little bit of time to look in the mirror, with much surprise (where did all that white hair come from?)
