Are you a Mac or PC?

In order of how much I like them:

1. Ubuntu 11.04
2. Windows 7
3. Mac

I dual booted Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04.

I'm both. My main machine is a Core i3 Thinkpad though. I had a MacBook but sold it and bought my Samsung Tab with the money. My Thinkpad is my baby though.

I have Windows 7 with a i5 661.
I run Ubuntu 11.04 and the latest version of Knoppix in Windows Virtual PC.
And I use Android on LG Optimus GT540 and soon LG Optimus 2X.
I don't like Mac.

Although my main computer is a Macbook Pro, I did recently buy one of these in Hong Kong...
fujitsu-uh900-hands-2.jpg

A Fujitsu Lifebook UH900 UMPC running Genuine* Win 7 Home Premium and Joli OS Linux(which I installed), 2GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, 128GB SSD.

I needed a new PC after my old netbook started getting unreliable. I did have a look at some Android tablets though while I was in HK, but nothing could do all the things I need of a PC.

* Genuine Windows is quite rare around this part of the world.

Mac.

I have used Windows for about 5 years, and Mac for about 3. I will never go back to Windows EVER. OS X just runs so smoothly, no problems, no lag, no crashes, no viruses. Mac and OS X are like art compared to Windows. Everything is so beautiful, and a pleasure to use.

I have built my own systems for 12+ years now. No off-the-shelf system is as good as a custom. Generally they are 10% +/- the cost of a pre-made which is completely worth it.

I have W7Pro 64bit and it is trouble free. Most of the time I run Linux Mint however, my recent upgrade is to 'new'. Mint 11 is in the works and I hope it resolves the Intel i3-2100 video issue. Until then i'm quite happy on W7Pro.

Apple in general is to proprietary for me. The software and hardware is to rigid for me to even consider it, always has been. I'm glad they are around, competition is always good and so are choices.

I have been building and using PC's for years. Currently, I am running an i5 with 16Gb of RAM and 4Tb of storage. My OS for years now has been Fedora and currently is Fedora 14, 64 Bit.

That said, I have always wanted a Power Mac. ;)

I'm sure this debate has probably been on here several times but I as a New user never got to take part in an OS War.

I'm a Mac user. Yay!

I use 2 of the 3. I use Windows 7 for my personal laptop and my primary work PC but I have a work-provided MBP (13" Early 2011) to learn on for supporting. Just signed up for the first ACMT test this week actually.

Yeah I have my Mac primarily but I've added a Virtual Vista Environment to Mac OSx for when I'm doing stuff with my phone. Unfortunately Mac just doesn't have support for HTC devices.

Here we go agian... :p

I use Linux primarily, but hav eto switch back to Windows for various programs (I work in a science lab, and the industry standards for some of the data analysis is Windows only).

I prefer Linux, although currently I am beyond annoyed with it (not perfect nvidia optimu support is just annoying). 3.0 kernel is bringing preliminary support, so that is good.

I have been using Linux as my sole operating system since 2001. I've done some distro-hopping and finally settled on Fedora and Ubuntu as my dual-boot environment. I've never owned a Mac but I think it has the most beautiful UI of any machine I've ever seen. I might buy one someday. Haven't seen much of Windows since 2001.

I was unaware war had been declared.

I've had Skynet and the Matrix uploaded into my positronic brain so i can run all three simultaneously.

Win 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Win 7 and Win2k3 R2 on a desktop (R2 is VM).

Very new to linux. Don't really like macs

All of the above:

Linux (Mint main edition) - preferred system
Mac - main home family machine
Windows - Work and a spare at home

I switched over to Linux about a year or so ago. I haven't looked back since. I love the CRAP out of it. Windows is necessary for some programs, so I have it in a virtualbox on Ubuntu, but I'll never put it directly on my computer again.

And while Macs are wonderful pieces of hardware that I rather envy to some degree, I can't stand the software. I dare say it's even worse than Windows; no freedom of choice whatsoever. I hear you have to install and remove software with some kind of drag and drop thing like on an iPhone, no ability to look under the hood. HATE IT!

Just to be clear, you can look under the hood. OSX is not locked down like an iPhone. It is just that the under the hood part and the general user part are separated a lot more than they are in windows.

...

As for hardware, I build my own custom systems, have done so for over 12 years. I use Linux as my OS. GNU/Linux to be more precise, the true free software. I've been recently turned on to Trisquel version 4.5.1. It's an off-shoot of Ubuntu which is an off-shoot of Debian. It may not have the latest kernel, 2.6.35 but, its solid. Before Trisquel I use Mint since version 9. Trisquel has great support and updates via apt-get. I highly recommend it..

Mac, never got into them, far to proprietary for me. OSX is linux underneath, that is something :)

I recently installed Trisquel and configured the OS (upgrade via apt-get), installed my apps and configured the firewall in about 35-40min. Just to install W7 Pro on the same machine*** it took over 2hrs just to install, update it and install 2 pieces of software.

***The reason I installed W7Pro, a sad one. My course is partially online and guess what they use. MS Silverlight. Now, Linux does have a plugin solution called Moonlight but its about 1 version behind. So until then, its a dual-boot.

Yeah I agree. When I first got my Mac I was a pretty new user and was pretty noobish. When a program installation was more involved than drag and drop there was no way in hell I was getting it on.

6 Months later and pretty much every new program I have to install involves Terminal commands e.t.c

Also I'm assuming most people here grew up as the programming of OS's got more and more complicated? With my tender age the first operating system I used was Windows 95.

And I still have my first ever laptop and use it every so often :D

Of course you can 'look under the hood' with OS X, it's UNIX, and mostly open source. iOS has no drag and drop for installing and removing, it's all done via the App Store. I guess you don't know much about Apple devices.

I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows Vista on my primary computer. I was raised on Windows, so it's my preferred OS, but I appreciate linux and its utility for some of the super geeky bioinformatics stuff I do for work. My fiance has a mac and prefers it, but we poor starving kids can't afford a decent Mac, so he's learned Windows.
