I'm platform & brand neutral.

I haven't met a computer I don't like yet.

Just some are better than others.

Preferences? Sure.

First off I'm a mobile computing & communications specialist.

On the PC side my favorites are T series ThinkPads.

On the Mac side it's a MacBook Pro. Previously PowerBooks.

Smartphones. Android & iOS.

Cheers :)

Been using Mac products for a few years now. Considering the ease of Apple's products and the features my wife enjoys, I'll be using a Mac for sometime to come. lol I am considering installing Linux on one of the computers though.

PC of course, gaming on a Mac = Fail.

Even with Windows based Macs as the hardware is shite and overpriced.

My System Specs

Antec 1200
Windows 7 x64 SP1
Intel i7 920@4.2GHz
6GB DDR3 DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz Triple Channel
4TB HDD Storage (2x1TBx2 Raid 0)
128MB SSD
GTX580@900/2100
Creative X-Fi Titanium

So can a Mac compete with this? I don't think so.

Well if it's gaming, I would totally agree here. Other uses, probably not.

Have Linux Mint on that rig and I might be interested. Windows is NOT an OS I particularly want to be dealing with, because of work and location.

I have no use for linux on my PC, thankfully I have no restrictions that would force me to use it.

restriction? Seriously,

Linux/Unix is the most liberating form of operating system. The power of the CLI is intoxicating. The fact you can get the same amount of power frm a 20 year 486 or Pentium Pro running Linux/FreeBSD shows you how scaleable it is.

UNIX will always be a super-computer platform because of its core strengths.
99% of all the world's top cluster super computer run UNIX.

After working on million dollar UNIX servers throughout my career, I feel handicapped, locked in a room when I use Windows. I am dead serious.

Of course, I prefer OSX because it has all the strengths of UNIX and the ease-of-use for the 10% I need a GUI.

Change 'restrictions' to 'safety' and you would be right. Yes, Windows is just NOT a safe OS to be using in China. Also there is no 'force' it's just down to common sense and what I can trust.

OS X, yes.
BSD, yes.
Linux, yes.
Windows, no.

I'm not using a Supercomputer though, if I used linux most of my applcations and games I use won't work plus linux drivers for hardware I use are shite so what would be the point?, so what I said still stands, I have no use for linux.

Security isnt really a concern for me, software and hardware firewall plus antivirus keep mre secure enough.

Now im going to play some bulletstorm, can you play that on a Mac?

Actually, yes, just not using OS X ;)

Ahh, I ment to say linux. How did we get to Linux Vs Windows anyway?

You can play directx game using Windows on the Mac, but the high end Macs are not really good value for money.

Don't Mac Pros still come with a HD5870 and cost over

I don't really see anything wrong with Apple personally but, I find PC is more to my liking. I suppose to me it's like comparing apples and oranges (No pun intended, Or was there?).. I find it's easier for me to use most of my programs as well. There are too many programs I use that are not compatible with Apple OS. Like IMVU for example...

I agree. I was going to buy a Macbook Air, but I have a large investment in Windows Software and I am not inclined to replace any of it with Apple versions. I also find the Windows 7 GUI easier for me because I am use to using Windows. The Macbook Air is a great machine and well designed and fabricated.

Odd that much of the Apple bashing has little to do with Apple being better (or worse) than a PC, but the high cost of Apple compared to Windows machines. I can spend 1200.00 or more on a Dell Adamo or purchase several Macbooks for the same or perhaps a tad less money.

It is like saying a Ferrari 430 Spider is a crappy car because you can purchase a new domestic car for far less money and not speaking to any fundamental differences that make the Ferrari a worse car in your view.

Fact is, Apple is just as good as a PC and a PC is just as good as an Apple. It is only when you start comparing features that one side of the argument begins to win.

restriction?
I laughed out loud when I read that!

Exactly. I started back when there was nothing but CLI, and I learned my UNIX systems inside and out. And loved every second of it. When I first had the misfortune of having to use a DOS computer for a few days, I felt like I'd gone from the space age to the stone age just like that! I couldn't believe how awful it was,.
UNIX will always be a super-computer platform because of its core strengths.

The 14 fastest supercomputers run Linux. :D
After working on million dollar UNIX servers throughout my career, I feel handicapped, locked in a room when I use Windows. I am dead serious.
I know exactly what you're talking about. I've tried for years to get that concept across to people who've only known DOS/windows and they can't understand it. It's because they can't see beyond the limitations they're saddled with--and which they accept as normal. But then, these are the same folks who think viruses, malware, adware, spyware, constant rebooting for everything from installing software to recovering from yet another BSOD, and constantly having to pay big bucks to upgrade are all just part and parcel of computing! :)

I'm not using a Supercomputer though
You'd think you were, if you switched form windoze to Linux. :)
if I used linux most of my applcations and games I use won't work
Why should they? Micro$oft apps are intended to run on Micro$oft-based computers. What you're missing is that there are THOUSANDS of Linux apps available, for free, whenever you feel like it, that make using windoze apps a moot point. Besides, there are projects, such as wine, that will allow some M$ products to run on Linux. I personally love my Roller Coaster Tycoon and it plays flawlessly on Linux via wine. But for everything else, such as office suites and graphics editors, there are native Linux apps that are great and eliminate the need to run apps for a different OS on Linux.
plus linux drivers for hardware I use are shite
I don't know what you're using, but I have zero problems with any computer, printer, scanner, digital camera, smart phone, etc., that I currently use, so that's a little hard to understand. You must have some really obscure hardware!
so what would be the point?, so what I said still stands, I have no use for linux.
Too bad you have no idea what you're missing.
Security isnt really a concern for me, software and hardware firewall plus antivirus keep mre secure enough.
LOL.
Now im going to play some bulletstorm, can you play that on a Mac?
Assuming you mean Linux, I don't know. I've never tried.
