Are you a Mac or PC?

I dual boot Ubuntu and Windows Vista on my primary computer. I was raised on Windows, so it's my preferred OS, but I appreciate linux and its utility for some of the super geeky bioinformatics stuff I do for work. My fiance has a mac and prefers it, but we poor starving kids can't afford a decent Mac, so he's learned Windows.

I think Windows is excellent for a ground understanding in computing. After all I grew up in a windows household, and I seem to be doing okay with other OS :D

Hey kids, when I grew up, we didn't have computers. Apples were hanging from the trees and windows were what the baseballs broke. If we needed to communicate we had to walk to the neighbor's house barefoot in ten feet of snow, uphill ... both ways ;)

LOL!

I'm 29; we didn't get a pc until I was in middle school, but apparently my brain was still malleable to learn it (good thing too, because my parents still struggle and call a couple times a month for support).

Anyway, rest assured that I spent more of my formative years running wild in the woods or with my nose in a book than starring at a screen ;-)

I run both Windows 7 And Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal)

I don't need any Windows specific programs and prefer Ubuntu

However Ubuntu needs better driver support before I ditch Windows

Aha just because I grew up with tech doesn't mean I don't go outside :)

I live out on the moors three miles from my nearest supermarket. If I want to go out I get on my bike and pedal ;)

Walk??? You were lucky.... we had to crawl on hands and knees. And we lived in a hole in't middle of the M1! :D

At least you had knees. We had to sell our knees to buy apples*, which made us walk like zombies. It wasn't too bad unless the villagers cought sight of us and then they'd chase us with pitchforks and torches.

* a futile attempt to keep it on topic.

I'm waiting to see if the updated version of the Macbook Air is worth it. It'll either be that or Dell XPS 15z. The Dell would certainly be more powerful and hundreds cheaper but the Air is so lightweight and portable.

Frankly I liked the look of the Adamo better than the 15z.

ThinkPad W520 with an OCZ Vertex 3 SSD and Linux installed ;-)

Of course you can 'look under the hood' with OS X, it's UNIX, and mostly open source. iOS has no drag and drop for installing and removing, it's all done via the App Store. I guess you don't know much about Apple devices.

When I said drag and drop I meant something like it, for example the App Store! It's true I don't have much experience with Macs apart from owning an iPod touch once. But I do know that the OSX source code is locked down tighter than a fat man in a little coat. Or let's say I just want to move the top panel down to the bottom of the screen. I'm pretty sure I can name 20 types of customization off the top of my head that Macs don't offer.

OSX is Unix-based, but it ain't Unix in the nice way.

I actually had the Adamo for a while. I returned it due to screen defects and the fact the bottom plate wanted to come off. lol It's a nice notebook but the screen was horrible. It's nice that the 15z has a 1080p option. That's massive for a screen that size. Hopefully Apple will announce the MBA refresh tomorrow so I can make my decision soon.

I use both - Dell PC and iPad at home, Mac at work

I should say that the occasional times I get to work from home I have to run dual computers.....the PC because Outlook only works properly on Windows Explorer for me; and I can print from the PC - and the Mac runs the program for ordering and has all my work storage. It's quite amusing to watch I'm told

I suppose I'm a Mac. My everyday computer is a 13" MacBook Pro, and I absolutely love it.

I'm a moderate in the Mac vs. PC debate though. Both systems have their perks and drawbacks, and it truly comes down to your preference and how you allocate your needs into those perks and drawbacks. For me, Mac works great. For my wife, Windows is where it's at.

Mac.

I have used Windows for about 5 years, and Mac for about 3. I will never go back to Windows EVER. OS X just runs so smoothly, no problems, no lag, no crashes, no viruses. Mac and OS X are like art compared to Windows. Everything is so beautiful, and a pleasure to use.

I disagree. For over a decade I've used both PC's and Mac's. They are both good.

A properly maintained computer is quite reliable. Macs a are a bit simpler for the non technical people, but there are more limitations as well. This issue about viruses, crashes, malware etc, is way overblown and only an issue to the most absent of owners.

I've run XP/Vista/Win7 for over 48 months straight with not a single BSOD or crash of any kind. But then again, I work in the industry, use a computer to make my living and know how to maintain it. I use a Mac, as well as a Windows computer because I work in a cross platform environment. It's really more personal preference than anything.

About the only real difference as I see it, is there is something odd that comes over people who migrate from PC's to Macs. I think it's the ego and arrogance of Steve Jobs that causes them to fall in line like good fanboys and take up bashing PC's. It's good for their ego.

I really don't care, I enjoy the variety of using difference OS's. After all it's just a computer.

I used have both. I've been with PC all my life but about two years ago I got myself a 27" iMac. For a long time there was just something about Apple hardware I liked, despite their brutal prices, so I needed to try it.

Unfortunetaly I sold it later down the road as I simply spent a lot more time building PC rigs and being more interested in that than the iMac. There wasn't a whole lot I couldn't do on a PC without the iMac so I saw no use in it anymore.

I do still remember how much I liked it, though. It's just so perfect and stable. The OS is simple, easy to learn and the hardware itself is pretty good in terms of speeds and processing. I am by no means an Apple hater. I'm good with both PC and Mac.
