Are you gonna leave?

So with this Droid Bionic release coming up "soon" do you plan on getting it?
I personally LOVE Moto's build quality and would like to stick with a Motorola product, so my next phone will hopefully be a Motorola.

I have been an X owner since day one and have had some little issues where my X has been replaced. My new replacement has been great so far.
I dont know a price on the Bionic, but if I had to guess it might be around $250-$299 with a new 2 year contract. I think i might hold off on an upgrade.....im not sure?

IDK, I just dont know If I wanna spend $300+ on a new phone, but I know only me and my wallet can decide that. haha.

So what are your plans, will be be ditching the good ole' X for a Bionic on release? Or will you get the most you can outa the X and rock it till its literally "outdated" and or broken....?

Thoughts, comments, ideas...

I think I'm going to rock this bad boy another year. I mean. I'm not tired of it and that's surprising. it's a good phone and I can't let it go just yet.

LOL, "leave"? Nope, never leave ;) [think "Stripes" :D]

Didn't really leave my HTC Droid Eris when I got my X (on launch day, too).

If I get something else (possibly rhymes with "Bionic" :D), it'll just join my pile of Android devices, one of which will be my daily phone.

I will wait until I hear about the lock status of the bootloader and the battery life with 4G before plunking-down any cash on any new device...I think us X'ers can afford to be choosy since we've already got a great phone that can last as long as we need them to.

Cheers!

I'm not due until Sep-12 for an upgrade, by then I'm sure technology will be even more impressive. Plus the X is still a strong runner even considering the newer technology. 4G would be nice, but isn't any deal breaker(for now).

4G isnt even in my area, i have 2 lines, one of which is a dummy esn i can just get a new android phone and kill the line again and place it on my primary line, im lookin at the sgs2 for the time being. and then whatever new flagship phone comes out at the beginning of the year :)

No point to me upgrading right now. Like VoidedSaint, there is no 4G service in my area. LTE won't hit my hometown until 2H of 1012 and my current contract runs through July of 2012. I'll wait and see what awesome new phones are on the market then.

I get 4g this year so my decision in a little harder...

Will probably get a Bionic. Or maybe hold out to see what the next Nexus phone brings with Ice Cream Sandwich.

I also am suppose to have 4G by the end of the year and will have an upgrade at the start of August. However I still really like my X. I am right now there is nothing out there that makes me want to switch. The Bionic may be the closest thing. However I will wait and see what everyone thinks of it first. This is not like when I had a TouchPro2 and was counting the days until I could upgrade to my X. I have no complaints about the X.

I was actually surprised that Indianapolis got 4G as early as it did. We were supposedly slated to make sure we had it in time for 2012 Super Bowl, so most of us didn't expect it until late 2011.

Perhaps the 4G roll-out is going faster and quicker than VZW anticipated?

Got 4G now in Seattle but not due for an upgrade till next year so will probably stick with the X for now.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't think I will have 4g in my area for like another year. Iguess it would make sense for me to wait until next summer.
I really hope the 4.3 " screen size boom lasts for awhile.
And I hope moto continues to make good hardware.

Welp, the son just dropped his feature phone to the bottom of Lake Brainerd. So, he needs a SMARTphone, right? I'm figuring (hoping) that the next phone I get him will be the next one I get for myself, if he can hold out that long on an old second hand feature phone I had hanging around.

He said to me, "Dad, I'd like to get a smartphone that you and I can root. You can teach me how and we can have fun with it together."

Music to Dad's ears! "Sure, Son!"

you know when i have a son or daughter if they say that to me, i would instantly say get in the car, take them to the local verizon store and say pic whichever droid you want!

i bet you were so happy to hear that, cause now you can have other extracaricular activities with your son, he needs to be an AF member now!

Gese I would love to have you guys for parents.

The only conversation I have with my parents about cell phones usually consist of "where is the camera button again" "I cant get it to call my voicemail" Something along those lines.

None the less I think I will be sticking with moto. I am very tempted by htc devices, but the most important thing to me in the end is battery life. If moto still continues to have the best battery life that is where I will be sticking.

I was. Truth be told, we do have a lot in common. We have a funny relationship. I'm both dad and friend. When it comes time for me to be the "firm boundary" I am. My son understands that. But BOY do we also have a LOT of fun together.

You may like me as a tech person. You may not like me as a dad. ;)

No upgrade for me until April 2012 (or whenever us first-day DX'ers get it). A lot of people are now discounting the importance of the bootloader, but I'm not playing that game again. We almost went a year relying on whatever Moto deemed to give us and that sucks. Hackability is my prime concern for my next phone. I own the phone and not being able to load the programs I want is a total non-starter.

I have actually been eligible for my upgrade for a couple of months now, but I still have my X and probably will for a while. My wife has the T-Bolt and we keep 4G off 98% of the time because of the battery life. I haven't even pushed my X to Ginger bread because I love the way it runs right now on the last Froyo version of Apex. I have it configured exactly as I like and there isn't anything I want it to do that it can't.
My thoughts were to hold for the Bionic, but honestly, at this point I don't see the need. I don't stream a ton of video so the 4G isn't as big a deal as I thought it might be. At this point any upgrade would simply be a minor speed boost and not something I need to drop $300 for.

since i have 2 lines, lol i think what i will do

is get the sgs2 when its released, or the bionic, pending which one is first and if the bionic is locked up.

and my line if i have to i will do an early upgrade or wait a bit and get the nexus prime that comes with ics :)

Leave...no. Change phones...no. :D

We have 5 phones on our account and I usually always have one or two that are available for an upgrade. I could have upgraded a long time ago, but there just isn't anything out there right now to pull me away from my X. 4G does not play into the equation for me. I live in a rural area and there is no 4G service even remotely close to me. Even the large cities that are an hour or two away around here don't even have 4G. So, to get me to change to a new phone, it is probably going to take a little bigger screen with a quad core cpu. Hard to see this tiny screen on the X...lol!

Don't know about everyone else, but I think I'm done with Motorola for the time being
Nexus Prime or Galaxy S2

Nothing wrong with my X, so no need to worry about upgrading. Contract isn't up until July '12 anyway. I am, by choice, still on rooted Froyo. Did not like GB at all.

I think if the bionic is everything that it is supposed to be then I will leave my X for it. On a side note, I got the X on release day also but I have an upgrade available now. I left Verizon to go to sprint to try to lower my bill and have 4g now but sprint coverage sucks. Dropped calls and my X was quicker on 3g than my evo on 4g, so I called Verizons win back team and they told me I could come back with no etf or activation fees and I would be on a month to month contract that I could upgrade with. Win win for me.

The Bionic is very enticing. I won't get it on launch date thou. I'll lurk in the Bionic forum and see what people think about it (battery, bugs, bootloader, root, etc). Might even wait a few months and buy one used on Craigslist. That way I can stay off contract. I bought an Eris that way. I used it for 6 months, then sold it for the same price I paid for it (FREE PHONE!)

My main reason to upgrade from the Droid X would be 4G. I asked someone who has the Thunderbolt about 4G in Nashville, TN. He said it was amazingly fast. As fast as his home internet.

The main reason I may not get the Bionic is it's 4.5" screen. Just gotta see how much bigger it makes the phone compared to the X with it's 4.2" screen.

I will probably end up with the Bionic at some point. I do want to see how it behaves. I do not have 4G in my immediate area so that's not a draw for me. I love all the development going on now for this device so if the bootloader is unlocked or easily unlockable it will make my decision that much easier.
