Ask Verizon Rep Questions Here...

I thought that the GB rollout had started for the inc already?? I usually look through the inc forums on here when I have time and thought I saw the rollout had started.

I'm pretty sure it did start and when they do an upgrade like that they do it in waves, pretty sure they do them on mondays (not 100% though) so checking your update status on monday's would be the way to go. The just simply cannot push that amount of data to every single incredible owner on the same day...too much for the network to handle, which is probably why you haven't gotten GB yet.

Yes, it started, about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I and many others have yet to see it. There's also been rumors that the update was stopped / pulled due to the many bugs in the update (bluetooth disconnecting when a text message comes in, apps disappearing after install especially if they were moved to the sd card, About Phone shows that the phone has a 4.3" screen and the Market shows Sprint only apps, not Verizon - as in the phone thinks it's a Sprint Evo... among others)

Getting acknowledgement that the update is stopped or not would be nice.

ok heres an interesting one (not sure if it was covered. didnt read all the posts)

me and my wife got our phones at the same time (8/10). her X is starting to have some software glitches and she just doesnt want to deal with it anymore. mine is perfectly fine. she called and they said she can do an early upgrade to the bionic (she is the primary on the account). would it be possible to do this, activate the bionic on my number, transfer my X to her number and still keep upgrade elegibility on my line (using the boinic)? personally i want to wait for the "dinara" anyways. when i upgrade mine in april (if possible) we would activate the bionic on her line and i would keep whatever phone i ended up getting new.

TL;DR

early upgrade line A, activate new line A phone on line B. transfer line B phone to line A. keep upgrade in 6 months for line B.

edit: i see hes gone :(

I'm a verizon customer, and recently have a water damaged phone. I've been a verizon customer for years and have always done everything by the book.

Mod Removed - Myjackson would like to know if he has any legal, non-fraud options. :)

Wow, we have a rep answering questions. That's good. I'm going to rename this thread then.

That is crazy, I haven't spent a ton of time in the inc forums recently to be honest. I hadn't heard of all those issues. Unfortunately, I'm just an indirect agent, so I don't have a lot of access to the updates on the phones. I usually check here to get update info honestly, lol. I know that a lot of the inc users have rooted and found great success doing that. If I remember right they have that process down pretty well now and the video's they have posted are super easy to follow, maybe try that??

yes, that is entirely possible and done on almost a daily basis. That is actually how I got my original inc. I added a line for my GF (she was on a boost crackberry which was horrible!) and got the inc, transferred my old phone to her line and took the good phone, the inc. Then, I filed an insurance claim on my phone and got an inc2 sent to me. :)

I see the mod removed some of the info, lol. I'm assuming that you do not have insurance on the phone? Because assurion does cover water damage. If you do not, I'm affraid there isn't a ton you can do. You can always call customer care and plead your case to get an early upgrade. As long as your payment history is solid and you've been a customer for a while they will usually work with you. I would reccommend to call a few times if your not getting the answer you were looking for, as you may just need to get lucky and catch a rep on the right day. Just remember, be nice to them. Kill em with kindness. I'm sure your frustrated by the situation, but taking out on an anonymous rep doesn't do anything for anyone right?

I'll try to check in on this as regularly as possible. currently I'm up for a promotion, so I don't know how often I'll get on here if I get it (crosses fingers) Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions. I know all of vzw's policies pretty well.

I never had any intentions of trying it. I actually had already purchased a new phone when I posted. I purchased one from someone on Craigslist because I knew there was no use. I had just heard a lot of people say that did that, or would take the sticker off until then needed to turn it in and put it back on. I was just wondering if Verizon actually got smart enough to put one somewhere else on the inside of the phone so that people can't tamper with it. There is one packaged into my battery (but then all I would need to do is purchase a new batter). I was just curious as if they'd done the obvious.

Well the mod edited your post, and removed a lot of what you typed if you look above. i'm assuming you were talking about esn number swapping or whatever. That number is programmed into the phone and most likely hardcoded somehow. I have no experience in doing anything with swapping esn numbers, but I would imagine that there is some safeguard for this in the system honestly.

I recently switched to the Thunderbolt and I have become increasingly frustrated with the malfunctioning texting and slow performance (I've done the resets, and I use few persistent applications). The texting is the worse of the two as my messages frequently send to contacts other than the intended recipient. When I spoke to a rep about getting this fixed I was ultimately told that I could have my model replaced for free.

I am looking to get away from the Thunderbolt for a different model that is 3G only and about a year old. My question is if I get the replacement Thunderbolt, can I sell it online and use the proceeds to purchase the phone I want, and will I be able to activate it on my account? I don't understand why Verizon believes I should be stuck with a product that has a known issue that prevents proper normal use, but that is another story.

No I was not referring to the ESN. I know that stuff, and its really easy. Not sure how this got so confused. I just wondered if and when Verizon and even other places were going to start having the water label SOMEWHERE where people can't tamper, and where it can't get damaged by steam etc (a common client complaint). Just curious. I've known of a couple people that got new phones to replace water damaged ones by cheating through this (tampering). I don't agree with it, and so therefore wish it was more tamper proof.

The moisture indicator(s) are an anti-fraud measure, so any discussion about tampering with them is a touchy subject for a high-profile site such as Android Forums. I'm sure you can understand why we don't want to give the impression that we condone or encourage such things. :)

i got in trouble for this once, so i wont say a word about this part anymore.

:p

i have said this before though, the htc droid eris water damage indicator was in the worst spot, right where the charger was, so basically if you removed the battery cover for any reason, like i did once, and say it down on a table, not knowing that sweat from your ice cold glass of coca cola

I have a droid charge with hotspot and am constantly getting disconnected. The phone will show 4g with full bars and the suddenly the 4g will dissapear but I will still have full bars, and then about 5 seconds later the 4g icon will reappear and the connection will come back. It cycles like this until I turn the phone off and back on. It will then continue to do this randomly through out the day. I am paying $25 for this service that doesn't properly work. That is just the hotspot part of it, the phone itself will also at random times show 4g full bars, but acts like it is not connected when I try to use the browser or open an app. This is the second Charge Verizon has sent me with the same problem. I am tired of this phone not working properly, is there anything I can do? Please help. Thanks.

I have sold a few of the charges here and they have had a few bugs. I had a customer where somehow her mobile packet data was turned off (she claimed she didn't touch it, but who knows). The samsung phones, the charge, fascinate and continuum have had their share of issues, honestly, I think it relates to touchwiz ui more than anything else. I'm not super technical with the inner workings of the phone, but considering that most of the droid x issues are traced back to the crappy motoblur it seems to make sense that the samsung issues are related to their touchwiz ui. I know that doesn't help or give you the answer you were looking for, but you can try rooting and flashing a custom rom and see if that helps. Thats pretty much the only way to truthfully know if its a touchwiz thing or hardware related that I can think of.

On another note, my HTC droid incredible 2 with stock GB runs great. Sense is the best ui, no doubt. ;)

There was discussion awhile back that the signal strength meter on 4G phones reflects the CDMA signal only, and this would make sense since this is your ability to make calls or send/receive text messages. The CDMA radio is always on, even when you have a 4G connection. Soooo... Do we really know what the signal strength is when our phones are connected via 4G? I don't think it's reasonable to assume that just because the LTE cell is on the same tower with the CDMA cell, that the signal strength is the same for both radios.

That being said, dropping 4G isn't necessarily a TouchWiz problem, but more related to the firmware. But based on the last paragraph, if you're having problems, you could be on the fringe of a 4G cell. The latest released revision of the radio and ROM firmware is EE4. I'm currently running the leaked EP3(H) Gingerbread ROM (pay no attention to my out of date signature) and I can say that the data drops seem to be improved with the EP3 radio. The EE4 radio definitely had the problems described by the OP. I experienced the same thing where I'd get 4G drops followed by a short 10-15 seconds of no data connectivity before subbing in 3G. I don't see that anymore. That's not to say EP3 is without flaws. The ROM itself still needs work IMO.

Personally, I've soured on these skinned Android phones from the manufacturers. The UI's do a lot to muck with the usability of Android, and over time this pretty much outweighs the extras that come with the custom UI. Sense was a battery killer. TouchWiz has its own problems (for one, bluetooth stereo streaming was VERY choppy before I rooted). I've now rooted and ROMed HTC and Samsung phones and found that stripped of their custom UI's, the phones run A LOT better.

I have a Dinc and am looking at upgrading to a Prime when it comes available. HOWEVER, I do not live anywhere near a 4G area. Will it still work in 3G? I assume yes. Will purchasing it require a change in my contract?

Thanks

Yes it will work in 3g. If you already have a smartphone you don't have to change your plan.

Hi All,

my Wife and I have had the X2 for a little over a month now.
we both have been having issues with random reboots and lock-ups.
during the first week of ownership, i had to do the factory reset.
right at the end of the 14 day return period, I attempted to return the phones, but the store manager
was not willing to do so, but at leaset she swapped out mine for a new one.

Unfortunatly, the second device is having the same issues.
I have been to a few different locations (all corporate) and none have been very helpfull.
*611 has said they would send out a refurb to me, but it bothers me greatly to get a refurb
so soon into my contract ( ie: I paid for a new phone little over a month ago, i dont like the idea of getting a replacement the possibly has the same problem).

my dilema is, I am done with the X2. I have become more and more frustrated with the deevice and VZW each time I have an issue. all I am trying to do is get a different device, or return these and reactivate our OG droids (which, for the record never gave us any problems)

Does anyone have any advice?? or am i stuck with the X2? (if so, i probably walk away from verizon, etf fees be damned.)

Thanks!

Officially, vzw doesn't have to replace your phone with a different model. Unofficially if you call a few times and make sure they note your account as having trouble with the phones, you will eventually get a different model. For instance, I have a friend who got the LG Revolution (I know, I warned him, but he's a **** and didn't listen) He made a few calls a few different days and eventually got it replaced by a droid charge.

*edit* sorry, had a customer come in to work here. But it took a little while for my friend to get the new phone, but you just have to be persistant. And be NICE! Don't be a jerk to the rep and expect them to go out of their way to help you. I know, it should be common sense, but its not. And again, it wont happen the first time, but if you stay on em you could get lucky. Its just all about catching teh right person on the right day. And I know that they just had an OTA update for the droid x2's recently to fix the keyboard issues. So you may want to check your software updates, that may have fixed your issues as well.

yes it will absolutely still work on 3g. There is a way to turn off the LTE antenna and that should help quite a bit with battery longevity. At this point, with how fast vzw is rolling out LTE nationwide, it would be kinda dumb to not get a 4g phone with your upgrade honestly. Even in my small area they are expecting it to have coverage some time next year. Most of the eastern zone will be saturated with 4g coverage but the end of 2012, which is a full year ahead of vzw's projections.

My father activated a second line on his verizon plan on July 3rd at a costco kiosk (wireless advantage) and I brought my cousin's old droid eris (locked into unlimited data) because I was planning on getting the bionic back when it was supposedly going to be released over the summer.

People on this forum suggested the bring your own phone route to maintain a discounted upgraded when my phone of choice is finally released. I noticed recently that my verizon account says I am not eligible for an upgrade until 2013 and the rude woman at the costco kiosk refused to even help me.

I just want to confirm that I will still be eligible for a subsidized galaxy nexus?

I would bring your phone to a corporate Verizon store and find out what info Verizon is using when they determine when you're elegible for an upgrade.

Is it possible when your dad activated a new line on his plan that Verizon is now showing your phone on that new line? Just a guess but I would think that Verizon should have the answers you're looking for.

Best of luck,
