Atrix 4G PenTile LCD????

Nice to see Samsung got rid of the Pentile Matrix for their new screens..

Whats even more interesting is the early benchmarks of the Orion chip in the Galaxy S 2...

Yea, that's good, but it's still made by Samsung which is automatically a downside.

prob not getting the Atrix now for three main reasons, PenTile display

Yeah, this is kind of digging at me, though it's not really all that noticeable on my SGS for most use, but it definitely affects tiny text. There's an update for the SGS that tweaks the settings and apparently almost completely removes it (i.e., your perception of it).

locked bootloader

I just want a functional phone, and for that matter you can still flash custom ROM, just not change out the kernel, so you can tweak the UI, all the resource files, layouts, apps, etc., even with a locked boot loader.

the higher pixel density will cause the Tegra 2 to work more, lowering it's performance.

This isn't really on my radar, the improved PPI is welcome, the Teg2 CPU/GPU will easily handle the slight bump in pixels for general operations, and anything written to target the Teg2 will fly, extra pixels or not.

I'm not refuting your points, they're your take on this, I'm kind of just thinking out loud, because I've got some of the same concerns.

This is from what I've gather with the Moto's lock boot loader. The only 2 downers are 1)you gotta wait for the upate from Moto and THEN you can have the developers cook up a ROM base on that kernel. So you won't get like the Gingerbread ROM that uses the Stock Google SDK. Also...once Moto moves on and leaves the Atrix sitting with Android 2.X or 3.X, and 4.X comes out...you're stuck with just ROMs with the kernel for the 2.X or 3.X.

Does the HTC Desire Amoled use a PenTile display, if so would the LCD PenTile display look much different.

I am happy with the display in my Desire so if the Atrix is about the same quality then I would be happy this display.

Yes the HTC Desire AMOLED uses a Pentile matrix display, the display that the Atrix uses is different in that it is a higher resolution and the colors of the subpixels are a little different but I expect that it will look at least as good if not better than the Desire. If you're happy with the Desire display then you'll like the Atrix display even more :-)

I'm a bit disappointed that it uses PenTile. It's such a huge difference between the X and the Fascinate, especially when looking at web pages. At least it has a higher resolution! That definitely helps when watching media. I just hope that Motorola eventually moves from PenTile.

I had the Nexus One with AMOLED and a Nexus S with SAMOLED and a myTouch4G with SLCD. I don't like AMOLEDs at all: not as crisp as SLCD, not as bright as SLCD, colors are vibrant but kind of not natural and the battery life of AMOLEDs sucks if you use higher brightness or bright backgrounds. Letters on white background look always blurry and not sharp.

PenTile LCD is not the same as PenTile AMOLED. Don't jump to negative conclusions.

I had (and sold) the Samsung Focus. It has Windows 7 mobile and a PenTile AMOLED screen.

Reading text was AWFUL. The browser was hardly usable...it did get a bit better in landscape mode, but PenTile on that particular model was miserable. Screen door effect. You could literally see individual pixels.

Photos and non-text colors were beautiful. Unfortunately I do a lot of reading on my phone (not books, but texts, news, websites, etc) and the PenTile was horrible.

Of course I'm sure the Atrix will be much better, but I bet it still has a screen door effect. No thanks, even on a minimal scale.
