Root Awesome Android Update 4 Released

cwm turns on usb mass storage mode instead of mtp mode, the rom doesnt like that because it doesnt let you choose mass storage mode, so it starts acting funny but it has never actually effected anything but the icon as far as mine. even without the icon showing i can still access the phone through adb

ok, so many questions... first of all the dalvik cache option is a part of clockworkmod, it has nothing to do with rooting. root all you want, its not gonna change the fact that you need clockworkmod. twrp can easily be built from our working settings, i made instructions on how to do it, i just dont care enough to put any more effort into that

I know it get's old going over the same basics, over and over. I appreciate the time and effort from all I've read, you and many others are very patient. So Thanks, we need your freely given knowledge, where else will we get it? Not from Boost:)

So, I decided I'll take the advice, and I've been reading those basics, and this in particular jumps out, as it is a post, from someone that say's this about Clockwork mod 5.8.2.4 (may not be the version your on?)

"TWRP is just one recovery. The other recovery is called Clockwork Mod 5.8.2.4(CWM). However, as of right now that one has been pulled due to it creating empty misc partitions which could brick your phone. apparently they are working on a fix for it now. So until they post that it has been fixed, DO NOT TRY IT"

This quote is in post #2 by ocnbrceon this page,

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...g-dummies-guide-lazypanda-racun-unlocked.html

I can't find out if TWRP can run and not brick my Sequent, rooted with DooMLord any advice?

Thanks.

i like twrp i installed in my esteem back the but im happy with cmw u got the job done that all we need cmw man i dont know how to do any of developing stuff but i would love to learn one day is great but u know me im kind of slow jajajajajaja good job brother

both twrp and cwm have to be made special for each device, so whats wrong with theirs has nothing to do with ours. that is for the htc evo lte, our cwm doesnt seem to have anymore issues, i dont think we even have a misc partition, and in case you were wondering we have cwm 6.0.2.7(the newest one available)
its just like when we had an issue with ours not backing up, restoring, or even touching the data partition, that was specific to our phones and due to an incorrect value in my code, not cwm itself

and finding a twrp that wont brick your sequent is an impossible task right now, finding one that will brick it is easy though, search twrp, pick one at random, it will brick it lol. as i said, device specific, even ones made for the original warp wont work

edit: id also like to add, thank you for the recognition, it can be kinda painful answering the same things over and over again but at the same time i was the one asking all the questions not too long ago, up untill last month i had never even considered the thought of programming for an android, and i had no idea what i was doing, now im the guy who coded the recovery we are all using, we all have to start somewhere my friends, and if you dont ask you may never know

all i ask from you is to take a look through the forums and see if theres already a guide or a tutorial out there and try that before asking something thats already been answered, some things are tucked away i can understand not finding those but if theres a whole thread on the subject read that first then if you still have questions we are here to help

You guys rock! After bumping into the walls and fumbling down the hall in the dark, I finally managed to find the bathroom light and got rooted! Thanks to eveyone's hard work! Has anyone removed any of the Provider Apps like Mobile ID or Boost Zone?

I thought I installed the new rom correctly...once I got it into recovery I chose install from SD Zip (or something to that effect) and chose the Shinjistu and it did it's thing...but I still have those apps (Boost Zone and Mobile ID). Do you think I should try to install it again?

Shinru2004,

I've got a question, My Sequent is rooted, (DooMLord) but doesnt have CWM installed, (I know that since I don't have an expanded recovery menu, and can't find, "advanced -> clear dalvik-cache" to clear it). Wanted to get you a screen shot of the menu, but just reboots:(

So, should I install your full rom as you instruct here to get CWM? Or from another scource first? Thanks for your help.

"Step 1. Download
Step 2. Copy to the root of sdcard
Step 3. Reboot to recovery
Step 4. Make a Nandroid backup (Just in case)
Step 5. do a factory/data reset
Step 6. clear cache
Step 7. Advanced -> clear dalvik-cache
Step 8. install zip from sdcard
Step 9. Enjoy the silky smoothness of Shinjitsu Rom"

it cant be installed using the stock recovery, all you might succeed in doing is removing all your personal data if thats even possible from stock recovery which im not sure it is. you can go ahead and try but itll fail the signature validation and you wont get anywhere. cwm is REQUIRED to install this or ANY rom

plus stock cant do a nandroid backup, so youll be up shit creek without a paddle if you clear user data/factory reset

Sorry I apparenlty tried to install the update rom first without having installed 4.0 first...I got it this time...I guess now to get the update however I will need to go back in recovery and just install the update.

Junkie2100,

Can you offer advice as to which CWM, to install? So many that deal with the Warp ,(but not specific to Sequent).

Or have I fried my bacon by rooting first with the DooMLord, before installing it? That was part of the deal after all, "you do this at your own risk" displayed large and bold, which I decided was worth the risk, before actually knowing anything.

Thanks.

ok first of all important note to both of you
DO NOT USE ANY CWM OTHER THAN THIS ONE
http://androidforums.com/warp-sequent-all-things-root/669226-cwm-6-v-2b.html
im not trying to be conceited or anything, im actually a rather modest guy, but its been proven that my cwm is the only one that actually functions properly, use of the v4 for the sequent will result in failure, and things made for the warp posted on the warp section will brick your phone with no way of going back
only use things found on the warp sequent - all things root section anything else will result in you needing a new phone

as far as the doomlord root before recovery, i think its actually required before installing the recovery though i could be wrong, i know for a fact it cant hurt tho

ah ok i see his update now, its seperate. so yea you seem to be on the right track leroy, my bad i havent checked the main page here in a while so i dunno whats going on, ive been hard at work trying to get cyanogenmod on my phone kuz the stock os sucks...

I feel safe and protected, and even a little fearless.

Maybe framing the right question, is the way to get the right answer after-all.

junkie sir, Your the MAN!

Hey just on a side note...do I need to reinstall your CWM now that I have installed Shin's ROM? I installed your CWM first (b/c I'm bass ackwards I guess. LOL). I admire your humble modesty...I commands great respect without saying a word. PEACE OUT!

Well, I wondered if this would be a problem, yep, it is...

Enabling USB Debugging, make's me lose the drive letter in WinXP. I'd discovered that was the reason, I no longer could access the phone by USB last Friday. By that point though, I'd uninstalled and re-installed these drivers ... to finally learn that:)

ZTE_Warp_Sequent_USB_Driver_EXE_-_4.28MB_

How might I again have USB debugging on, AND have the phone be issued a drive letter at this point?

****
Figured this out, took several more installations of drivers, re-booting the PC, and, was getting nowhere, till re-installing the native drivers off the phone, after the downloaded drivers, then a drive letter was assigned, now it's on to CWM and shinru2004's rom.

To anyone else, who split's their attention, (as I did), if your rooting, root! If you want to tether AFTER root, first go root, then look into tethering. You see I'd gotten root, then happily re-installed PdaNet, during one of my merry romps in the woods chasing hotspot for this Sequent to Lexus 7. Crap!!! PdaNet, installs it's own drivers over, or in place of junkie2100's advised driver's, (for installing his CWM)

I plead INSANITY!

OK, later, and unable to access phone with USB, while USB Debugging is turned on, UNLESS, I've re-installed the factory, drivers, which ... effectively means I won't be able to instal CWM.

Since I admitted earlier, to trying PdaNet, and probably mixing up the driver cock tale that worked, I assumed it was in the PC. Now I don't think so. The phone itself, seems the culprit, as I used a nearby laptop, (also WinXP), and installed the ZTE Warp Sequent USB Driver (EXE - 4.28MB) drivers. Got the same attempt to install drivers as on my desktop that I've been using, all along. This starts the automatic Windows compulsive help folder, seeking to load the drivers it remembers as workable.

During the install/reboot of the phone using "junkie2100"'s auto installer, (or also by Command Prompt), this script starts trying to load other drivers, or more drivers.

That freezes the CWM install, the screen freezes with little green android dude staring back.

Any idea from anyone, what to try?

It's ok to have problems. There are many things that can affect this process differently with different setups. I remember you needing help before and now you are helping...that's how it should be :)

I think, that your phone is still able to remain connected to your PC, while it's in De-Bugging mode.

Mine won't. In De-Bugging mode, there's no drive letter, hence, no way for the script to run when the phone re-boots. The factory drivers, allow the access, BUT, do not allow access to the root, of the phone, when the phone re-boots, and is supposed to receive the script for CWM, which is waiting to finish ... you see?

I'm trying to find out why. And if anyone has any idea's I'd like to hear them.
