[Battery] Complaints and Problems

There you go.

The battery is great. The battery sucks. The battery is fine if you never, ever touch the phone.

The only definitive answer you're going to get is the one you give yourself after trying the thing.

It seems to be getting better each day. I turn on and off the mobile network as needed and keep GPS off. I posted this analogy on another thread, don't expect good gas mileage when you buy a 500hp car. The same can be said for the Incredible, when you have that performance you have to give up something. Im going to get the extended battery soon. Coming for the BB Storm 1 & 2, this phone is awewsome!!!!

Does the battery suck? Look through the threads in this forum; count the number that involve battery complaints, battery tips, and extended batteries. Where there's smoke, there's fire.

I was just thinking the same thing.

But I don't want to drop $400 for the phone/data/insurance for a month and then turn around and return it a week later.

And where there's complaints on an internet forum, there's a vocal minority. A minority having legitimate issues? Probably - but still a minority.

i would say you would never sqeeze that much out of it right now. I am convinced there is a bug or an app that is installed that is causing the issue so I honeslty believe it will get fixed.

i had the droid with the exact same apps installed and exact same configuration and i would easily squeeze 24 hours with medium usage. I also had the droid overclocked to 900mhz so i dont think we can blame the proc speed for the poor perf.

to the OP

your posted daily schedule is about exactly what mine is during the day to day week

I get about 15 hours while playing games, youtube, web, texting non stop

I'm sure I could double that if I tried to stop GPS location and used an APPKiller

If you want a smartphone, and want a solid network (assuming you aren't already on Verizon), you may as well go for it. If you don't like the Incredible, return it for a Droid. If you don't like Android, switch to BB or WinMo (same data plans). If you don't like smartphones, drop the data plan and get something else. It's all interchangable and refundable (you may have a $35 restocking fee to deal with though).

The only thing I am not 100% on, is what happens if you decide that what you really don't like... is Verizon. You may or may not be out an early termination fee - I don't think so, but it's worthing making certain of (if you aren't on Verizon already).

I'm not saying the Incredible (or Android) is perfect for everyone - but it's risk-free enough that I can't imagine not finding out.

It's funny that so many people are saying that the battery life is fine. If I don't charge mine while I'm at work, it generally would be completely dead within an hour or so after I leave work, putting the life at about 11 to 12 hours for me. That's with relatively minimal use. Maybe a couple of 5 minute calls, and a few email checks, and perhaps 15 minutes of web browsing. To me, that's a VERY weak battery life! The signal in my office is pretty weak, so perhaps that's a major factor, but I sit next to a guy that has a Nexus One and he can go two to three DAYS on one charge!

It boils down to this, though. The Incredible is a damn near perfect piece of hardware, running a VERY good piece of software in Android 2.1, on the best 3G network in the U.S. If anything has to be wrong with the phone, at least it's a part that's upgradeable! And if you have a charger at work, that's not even necessary. My point is, it shouldn't be a deal breaker. The phone is just too good to pass up! Ha, I'm actually jealous of the O.P.'s 1.5 hour commute right now! It would give me time to play with my new favorite toy! :-)

People who use a few random complaints on an Internet forum as a basis for a phone having a "problem" are seriously misguided. This forum, as popular as it may be, represents an extremely small minority of the Incredible-owning population. And in every thread where one person complains about battery life, there are five people saying they get good battery life, even diminishing the already small minority.

One thing people often forget is "user error." Is everyone with battery life issues doing something wrong? No. Product defects are a part of life. But there are far too many people not complaining to say battery life is a "problem."

I had battery life issues in my first 2 days.
Then, I installed the power control widget.
I leave on the 3G and..
Turn off: WiFi, BlueTooth, GPS, and Compass when I don't need them.

I keep the y power widget on one of my pages, in addition to the other individual controls. Then I don't have to keep remembering what the power icons mean. The widget is the only way to control the Compass power that I have found.

Result: Only burn up 1/2 the battery from 7AM (leave for work) to 7PM (return home)

thats the thing though, you shouldnt have to turn everything off to get 12 hours of battery life. all my other smart phones including droid never had this issue with everything left on.

There's the key right there. Give it a shot with a charger at work as the backup plan. Should address any of the OP's concerns about running out of juice before making it home plus you got to find out for yourself what you think of the phone. I was recently onboard the "battery sucks" bandwagon but have since jumped off and I didn't have to cripple my phone to death to get satisfaction. A few minor tweaks make a big difference.

You're telling me your Droid gets over 24 hours battery life with WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS on, and moderate use throughout the day?

And I currently get over 24 hours on my Incredible with WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS off most of the time. Perhaps I could surpass 24 hours with them on myself. I just haven't had the need to try.

Ok, just wanted to bring this to light since it was brought up deep within another thread. There is definitely a problem with the way the INC charges its battery. Many of you - like myself - have been experiencing super quick battery drain, particularly with the phone dropping from 100% to 93% within a couple of minutes of being pulling off its charger.

Everyone who's experiencing this problem should run the following test: turn your phone off completely by holding down the button on the top of the Inc. Charge the phone until it gets to 100%. Turn the phone back on and you'll notice it will no longer immediately drain from 100% to 93%. Instead, it will take closer to an hour.

Now, once you drain the battery again, plug it into the charger without turning the phone off. You'll notice the phone charges to 100%, but as soon as it's pulled off its charger, it'll drain to 93% within a few minutes.

Don't know why this is happening, but clearly there is a bug.

Mine works just fine battery lasts a good long time. Maybe you have a defective phone??

My battery lasts a good long time longer than my Storm2 or IPhone 3GS. Maybe these people just have defective phones?? Maybe just expecting to much? I have no issues with the battery life at all.

i do notice that within about 5-10 mins of pulling it off the charger after charging all night, it's down to 93-94%.. i'll try to turn it off tonite and see if this works.. maybe the charger is the lemon, not the battery? or maybe the software that monitors the battery or something.. who knows.. i guess we'll see..

It's because:

1.) People expect the world of this phone ( and battery ) and just aren't getting the results they'd *hoped* for. Notice I didn't say the results they *should* be getting.

2.) It's a SMARTPHONE people, it will definitely use more battery than any dumbphone around. Because ...

3.) All the apps, live wallpaper, GPS, etc. that everyone is using. They think the phone should be able to do it without using any battery, apparently.

The debate will never cease but these are the main points. For some the battery will never be good enough - even if HTC were to produce 6000mah batteries, people would complain that they aren't big enough.

I am also having this problem. I am trying your idea right now. I just ordered the Seidio 1750mAh battery and hopefully it helps with not only this issue but overall better battery life. Ill let you know what happens with this charge with the phone off.

the battery indicator also seems to not be very accurate. the first 20% or so drops a lot faster than the next 40.

I think I'm getting as good battery life as on the iPhone 3GS, but I like my Incredible more, so I use it more (which has a toll on battery life).
