I was just thinking the same thing. There you go.
The battery is great. The battery sucks. The battery is fine if you never, ever touch the phone.
The only definitive answer you're going to get is the one you give yourself after trying the thing.
And where there's complaints on an internet forum, there's a vocal minority. A minority having legitimate issues? Probably - but still a minority.Does the battery suck? Look through the threads in this forum; count the number that involve battery complaints, battery tips, and extended batteries. Where there's smoke, there's fire.
If you want a smartphone, and want a solid network (assuming you aren't already on Verizon), you may as well go for it. If you don't like the Incredible, return it for a Droid. If you don't like Android, switch to BB or WinMo (same data plans). If you don't like smartphones, drop the data plan and get something else. It's all interchangable and refundable (you may have a $35 restocking fee to deal with though).I was just thinking the same thing.
But I don't want to drop $400 for the phone/data/insurance for a month and then turn around and return it a week later.

I had battery life issues in my first 2 days.
Then, I installed the power control widget.
I leave on the 3G and..
Turn off: WiFi, BlueTooth, GPS, and Compass when I don't need them.
I keep the y power widget on one of my pages, in addition to the other individual controls. Then I don't have to keep remembering what the power icons mean. The widget is the only way to control the Compass power that I have found.
Result: Only burn up 1/2 the battery from 7AM (leave for work) to 7PM (return home)

And if you have a charger at work, that's not even necessary.
thats the thing though, you shouldnt have to turn everything off to get 12 hours of battery life. all my other smart phones including droid never had this issue with everything left on.
Ok, just wanted to bring this to light since it was brought up deep within another thread. There is definitely a problem with the way the INC charges its battery. Many of you - like myself - have been experiencing super quick battery drain, particularly with the phone dropping from 100% to 93% within a couple of minutes of being pulling off its charger.
Everyone who's experiencing this problem should run the following test: turn your phone off completely by holding down the button on the top of the Inc. Charge the phone until it gets to 100%. Turn the phone back on and you'll notice it will no longer immediately drain from 100% to 93%. Instead, it will take closer to an hour.
Now, once you drain the battery again, plug it into the charger without turning the phone off. You'll notice the phone charges to 100%, but as soon as it's pulled off its charger, it'll drain to 93% within a few minutes.
Don't know why this is happening, but clearly there is a bug.
My battery lasts a good long time longer than my Storm2 or IPhone 3GS. Maybe these people just have defective phones. Maybe expecting to much? I have no issues with the battery at all.
