[Battery] Fixes and Tips

Since I got my Inc on release day, I have had the same rapid battery drain issues that everyone else has. I would leave for work at 8 am and have to plug in by noon with the phone primarily just sitting on my desk, save for a few texts, phone calls, checking news.

I installed the OTA update this morning when I woke up. I went 10 hours and used the phone a bit more than usual today. The battery performance today was noticeably improved. I almost want to cancel my Seidio extended battery order I made yesterday.

Anyone else have a similar experience and any of you more knowledgeable folks have any insights?

I am actually noticing a battery improvement as well but some more hard facts to support this idea would help.

Best thing you can do for phone performance is a reset... and your phone soft reset as part of the update. My guess is that it's a placebo effect.

my battery was better today but i installed the update around 10:30am and the phone was off the charger since 7:30. I didn't install any apps today though maybe that has something to do with it.

Lets face it this week makes one week with the phone. Battery is settling in and you staring at the phone every second is slowing down. Wait another week and you will use it like your last phone and it will be even better. Long live techno junkies.

Yea, mine still only lasted 13.5 hours till 4%... So, no, no difference for me...

(data&gps on constantly, facebook, latitude, calendar, & weather widget, 30 mins of games, and 30mins of browsing, + calls, texts & emails)

I'm noticing that Android system is using a far less percentage of the battery than prior to the update. Before it was upwards of 95% now it's only 35% and I'm getting better battery life.

Wait... you were expecting MORE than that with all of that crap updating? Get real.

maybe its just be but i too got the update this morning and usually by now im almost dead....i usually unplug around 630am....well its 9:08pm and am it 43%....says ive got 11hrs left of battery life...BTW ive got the 1750 seidio battery

I got the update and I do use Exchange. My battery (stock) is still at 33% after 14:30, so it seems it did make a difference. Yesterday I had to plug it in after 13 hours, but I did make it to midnight before...

Probably a placebo effect since the OTA only fixes Exchange issues (or atleast thats what it did according to VZW)

+1

I was feeling the same thing earlier today after this was the longest my battery meter has shown this high a number (right now 38% where this time every night it's around 15%), but I might have not used it as much as I thought.

Who knows, maybe the exchange fix did something that kept it from using battery in the background and we didn't know it...

My battery was worse today. I had 2 hours awake and 9 hours unplugged (after it charged all night) and I was down to 4%.
Yesterday I went 14 hours unplugged and 3 hours awake when I hit 8%.

I received the OTA update this morning on my way to work. It seems to me that my battery drain is less than the last week. Weird. Didn't even correlate the two at first. I'm hoping the update really did something that improved the battery life. I typically get a full day out of the phone with it just sitting at my desk idle with about 40% by the end of the day. Today it seems to be around 60% at end of the day. Hmmm...

Better? I had to reactivate my BlackBerry Storm tonight so I could have a phone since my Inc. died. Maybe it died of boredom, because I barely used the thing today. The battery SUCKS.

On the bright side, I had a problem reactivating my Storm and had to call CS. When I was telling the rep how much I loved the phone but hated the battery, she checked in the system and saw that the 2150 is in the system, but can't buy just yet. She said she put a note on my account to give it to me at a discounted rate when it becomes available if I'm still having problems.

I think, but am definitely not sure, that this update might resolve the issue some are having of the phone not going to sleep. My phone was doing that the first few days (up time and awake time were always the same), and the battery life was awful. Then someone on this forum discovered that killing any task in a task manager resolves this issue, so after restarting every time I would kill an unnecessary task, which made my battery life respectable. After the restart from the update, I forgot to kill a task, and yet my phone has been sleeping properly. It's not impossible the exchange fix helped with this, maybe my phone was constantly trying to sync to a non existent exchange account.

14 hours and 51% left, although 39& of uptime is phone idle.

Then 24& android system
16% cell standby
10% maps
6% display
3% camera
2% dialer

@OP, I am experiencing the same exact thing. Yesterday and every day before I would have to charge my phone at lunch and again at night. (very heavy user) But today I've been using it all day with the WiFi on pretty much all day and I'm sitting at 70% left. Don't know why the dramatic difference but I AK definitely experiencing an amazing difference in battery life. And loving it. The battery was the only downfall I could find of this phone.

I'm cashing in the chips for the night. 12:37 am. 11 hours of uptime since last charge. Putting her to bed with 62% charge. Good enough for me.

When I initially setup my phone, I entered my Gmail info. and the phone setup my email on BOTH the Gmail and native email apps.

Then, I found a informative article on extending your battery life on these Android devices (below). I tried it out by deleting my Gmail account from the native email app and just keeping the regular Gmail app. It seems to help the battery life alot! I had about 40-50% left at the end of the day as compared to running out of battery by the end of the day.

I'm sorry if this is a repost.
