I don't understand how everyone is getting gmail to sync with google talk off? Mine won't sync if it is off. I read that the gmail sync is built into the google talk and that it has to be left on. I found this out from a web search after my gmail wouldn't sync. So what gives?

Yea, I really look forward to taking off my case to swap batteries.

I ordered the $12.00 charger and batteries and they DO NOT WORK in the EVO. They are 3.7VCD and 1500mAh, Evo need 5.0 V .. I waited 2 weeks and when I got them I fully charged and put them in the EVO... would not come up correct.... They do however work in my Wifes HERO......

FYI

This phone is just like a corvette. If you are easy on it, never get on the gas hard, and don't do more than standard highway driving with light around town driving, it still won't be as economical as a compact car, but it will hold out fairly well. If you floor it everywhere you go, sliding into corners, pushing the car to it's limit over and over again, not only with the gas be gone insanely quick, but so will the tires, engine oil need changed, brakes, etc. etc. Just because this phone has so many features doesn't mean it can run every one of them all out all the time and have superb battery life. Look at the iPhone, it doesn't do real multitasking at all because of this. I'd rather be able to control my settings and do with it as i wish instead of being locked down just for a little better battery that isn't even better if you do some basic things with the evo settings.

Just checked mine. They say 3.7v and have been working just fine in my EVO since June 4. :)

Here is my graph from the past day and a half or so...wasn't paying too much attention to my usage but I would say that it was light/moderate...will do the same thing tomorrow and monitor usage...

so unplugged at about 315 sunday after noon and at 9% approx at 915 monday night

Managed 25 hours unplugged before I hit 16% and decided to plug it back in to be safe :) I was 50% when I left for work today, and it appears that my one-bar signal at work really eats away at the battery, since it went from 50% to 16% over a 3 1/2 hour period.

I was watching a video on youtube and the guy said that the battery life on his phone was just as good w/o the advanced task killer app. So i read on the comments section and someone explained that with that app that it is actually worse for the battery. "wen u leave an app open and go to something else it simply freezes it therefore it isnt using power to run until u click on it again. so if u constantly kill the app then choose it again it will re load all the way up from the beginning. That is why battery last better wen u dont use it. try if u dont believe." Is there truth to this? What experiences have you guys been having with or without the atk app and their battery life?

Well I'm at 23 hours about to squeak it out to 24 hours. The settings are stock, I haven't adjusted anything. GPS on the entire time and Wifi on the majority of the time. I don't use task killers. The only change in my usage was I didn't text much yesterday as I usually do. I made calls, listened to some music off my microSD, took some pictures and uploaded them to Twitter while I was out, checked email, checked Facebook, and browsed for a little. I also didn't go to the market yesterday at all thus no downloaded apps. I'm at 15% now, 20 more minutes and I'm at 24 hours.

After factory data reset, the phone has been amazing. Could it be something stupid I did and the reset changed that back to something that works, yea, most likely. A strange thing is going on, though, as shown through pictures: (The slight difference in times is due to ShootMe... idk if its just mine, but it usually takes a pic a few seconds delayed...)

Under battery usage, nothing but android system, cell radio, and cell standby come up, even refreshed it before taking the snapshot... Questions comments anything?

I used Pandora non-stop for about 1 hour and 10 mins at the gym and it used about 25% of battery (from 95% to 70%) (I've always used it with my charger ON at work).

Is this an indication of good battery? Bad? Really bad?

I mean, to use Pandora streaming music for 4 full hours, I consider this OK.

Did you have airplane mode on our something? Your wireless standby time is about half of your time since unplugged.

I still cant understand how you guys are getting this kind of battery time. When im at work I can barely get about 6 hrs of battery time. I mean do you guys use the phone at all? Post says moderate usage and get like 20 hrs in battery life (what is really a moderate user), I use the phone all day and like I said I can only get 6 hrs. I followed all the stuff that was posted here and still same 6 hrs when Im at work.

Yah I use Pandora at work I would say about total hrs of 4 hrs. I only get about 6 hrs of charge on my battery and then i would have to recharge. I dont get the others how they can get like 20-30 hrs on 1 charge I mean do they use any apps or even use the phone.

This is the same for me. The google contacts seemed to just stuck in sync. Did you just uncheck it from the menu not to sync no more? What are the issues if I dont sync my contacts to google contacts?

Look at your 3G icon and see if it's staying lit up (not greyed out) which means it's sending/receiving data. If so, you've got a problem similar to my own where something is running in the background continually syncing or w/e and draining your battery. For me it was google contacts that seemed to have got stuck in an infinite sync loop, for you it may be something else.

I'm very happy with my EVO. This is my third HTC phone, but my first Droid. I am so amazed at how very user-friendly and personalizable it is! So easy to send a quick video of my son getting his new taekwondo belt to his grandma, etc. I agree the battery is an issue. I can get a day out of it, but after one or two conference calls, etc. it needs to be charged. I just bring a USB cable and charge it from my laptop at work or the airport. The plus side is the phone charges faster than any portable device I've ever seen (darn Kindle). I would be interested if anyone knows of extended life batteries that actually are. I used to carry 2 spare batteries with my old HTCs, but the back of the EVO is very hard to get off, so I'd prefer not to switch batteries mid-day. Thanks!

I am in the UK and have had weird problems on my HTC Hero. I am on T-mobile network. Have been using handcent for a couple of weeks.
All was well I have not had the 100% issues that I have read much about until today - it seems to have changed overnight. Also the signal keeps dropping out. One minute I have 4 bars then no service emergency calls only then its back so I try making a call or sending a text and signal drops again also it keeps trying to check for network operators when I select t-mobile it tells me its not registered or sometimes it is. Can't call the network and their online service is closed. Its driving me crazy !

Love the forum btw

I was getting ~8 hours of idle time with mine from launch day to last week. I would take it off of the charger as I walked out the door to go to work and keep it in my pocket without turning the screen on until I clocked out. At this point I would have to charge it on the drive home to even make a phone call.

Is this the common battery life issue everyone talks about?

I shut off facebook sync but left on gps and push email and can now get around 16 hours of moderate use out of a charge. I would consider this well above my expectations.

What is the consensus of "tolerable" battery life?

Ok... so I was getting terrible battery life and have spent wayyyy too much time searching for what to do. First off I did a hard reset to factory defaults and then went to update the PRL etc etc... next I did this with the battery... a tip I found somewhere

Plug the phone it and when it turns green leave it for about 15 minutes. Unplug it and then turn it off and plug back in. Wait for the light to turn green and unplug. Then turn the phone on, then back off and plug back in until green. once it goes green this last time unplug and go. It is my understanding that this is a one time thing.

next I DO have Bluetooth on and that is the only radio. I also run exchange for my contacts, calandar, and mail using m.google.com. I had a few programs from the market installed that were running in the background. THE BIGGEST DRAIN is applications SUCKING DATA when the phone is "sleeping" I had a ESPN scorecenter widgit sucking data, flicker, Google Talk and some sprint update thingy. If you go to running services shortcut you can end these unnecessary items. As previously stated when you have you are using your phone you SHOULD NOT see the 3G symbol change from gray to white very often. I am not saying you shouldn't use twitter, weather, news, stocks and push mail but... don't have all of these goodies running all of the time because they are using data and THIS is what is sucking the battery dry. I only have 11 things running in the running services tab. My phone has been off the charger for 22 hrs and I am still at 65% battery life. I've made calls, used a few apps. Listed to MP3's with my Motorola Rokr bluetooth headphones. I would say I have light use. With heavy use I should be able to last at least 12 hrs plus. The key is to eliminate data drain and to condition your battery. On a separate note my first red evo battery was bad, went to sprint they gave me a black one from a touch pro 2 and it works just fine. Also I made sure my PRL is set to CDMA as well... I hope this helps... eliminate the data usage by third party apps (ESPN Aloca Flikr) and condition the battery... and you should be in the same boat as me...

I am so surprised at my evo battery life based on what I have been reading on the forums. Before I got my evo I was terrified of having a bad battery life. I received mines early july 1st and sat it on the charger without turning out on before I went to work. WHEN I got home I called it to get it activated and today its been off the charger since 8:30am I have been playing with it nonstop. It's been off the charger for a little over 11 hours and it's just now turning yellow. I'm very happy and I haven't done anything besideso lower screen brightness and change sync intervals

ever since the update i noticed that my phone charges a little faster than it did. It does last longer than it did before but the problem is that now as soon as i unplug it from the charger i go from 100% to 98 within 2 minutes. any suggestions what i should do?
