Root Battery pull and 'lost' apps?

If you're running reloaded and still seeing apps disappearing, be sure not to move dalvik to EXT. ropodope has said that it's not even necessary on gingerbread (and I agree) and it will cause issues like what you are seeing with dta2sd. the command is

su
a2sd cachesdreset

Ahh, maybe that's what the problem is! Let me try your suggestion...

Thanks, I'll report back...:)

No, when you flash it in recovery it gets built into the ROM. The file on the SD card doesn't do anything.

Open up terminal emulator

type
su
a2sd repair

then
su
a2sd reinstall

What all do you have on the SD-EXT?
Dalvik?

Ok...done

Sorry, but I'm not sure how to find out "what" I have on the SD-EXT?

As far as Dalvik, pretty sure I had it moved to SD-EXT..

Thanks...

Alright! NOW...when I go into TB and look at the <Baclup/Restore> tab, there are MANY apps that are installed on the PHONE! Then, when I am in <Manage Applications> and try to move an app to the SD card I get an ERROR saying "Failed to move application."! What have I gotten m'self into here?!?!:(

ok moving apps in manage apps is a completely different thing. that is using apps2sd and not a2sd. dt uses a2sd.

please read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html and go to the partitioning section for more details on the difference between the two.

just go in tb and look at the main menu. it should say a2sd at the bottom and it should show how much is on the card.

When you go into TB and look at that Backup/restore tab, yes it will indicate apps are on the phone but in reality, they are on your sd-ext.
Thats what dta2sd does...it tricks the phone into thinking they are there.
As ocn said, dta2sd and apps2sd are 2 different things....don't bother with going into manage apps/ and try to move to sd card...forget it's even there when you run darktremors a2sd.
Here's another informative site about the differences...

Ok Guys, I've been sooooo frickin frustrated over the past couple days due to my LACK OF good internet speeds AND 3G speeds on my EVO. Right in the middle of reading and attempting to respond to your several posts, I would loose connection! ARRRGGGHH ... Anyway..

Thanks for the replies that have been very informative - especially the link from mikestony - again, Thank you.

SOMEHOW, I MESSED with my apps trying to move them or something from within TB and now...many of the apps are simply not there to use and when I try to restore from TB, it just hangs..

So, I'm thinkin a fresh wipe/flash? I am wanting to flash a different ROM but should I flash back to a nandroid from a day or two ago or simply flash the new one? Sorry but I'm really not very good at this yet buut does anyone have a step-by-step guide restoring a nandroid? Since being rooted from this past January, I have not done a *restore* from a nand!

I just want to get this device back on the right path!

which recovery are you using?

basically, you boot into your recovery, and you have the choice of restoring or flashing a new rom. I use an app called quickboot to get me into it quickly.

If you restore, you normally don't have to wipe anything, it doesn't hurt to though, and may be advisable if going form sense to aosp, or vice versa.

To restore, you select backup/restore, then choose what you nand you want to restore, and what elements you want, like sd ext too, for example.

let er rip!

I'm using amon ra supersonic v3.11

I'm thinking about going to a Sence based ROM so I can mess with the provisioning and prl settings to see if I can improve these dastardly sloooowwww Sprint speeds!

I have been going back and forth from Decks and Mikg3.11, no wiping in between, it works fine.

Of course, if you are flashing a new rom, you want to wipe it all except the sd card. I wipe the sd ext too but some have said you don't need to. better safe than sorry.

MAN!!! What the heck is going on?! I simply rebooted and my Handsent app 're-appeared' where as before, when I tried to open it, it said it was not installed on the phone...

??????

MikG 3.11 was the one I was considering...

Just wondering if somehow TB has gotten messed up because when I try to restore anything at all it simply hangs up and never finishes..

Should I consider uninstalling TB and reinstalling it?

Personally, I would flash the mikG rom, update your pri prl and make a nandroid backup of mikg.
Then nand restore your decks rom.
I also personally wipe all except sd card when flashing new rom or restoring nand.
But thats just me, dusty gets away without wiping somehow but that works for him...(how do you do that dustwun? No wipe between sense and aosp roms?):p
If you want to uninstall tb then reinstall tb, thats fine...do you use the free version or paid?
If you use the paid version, after uninstalling, reinstall the free version AND the pro key version you bought.
:)

No way, Jose! Ok, that'll be the day I'm glad I can still get to recovery and wipe away! Hey hey!!! :p

Uh Oh...when I uninstalled both TB free and paid versionns then went back to market for them, the free version installed fine but the paid one gave me an ERROR -"Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card." Now what?

I'm starting to wonder if your sd card is hosed.

Argedion posted a way to check it in windows. If you can find it, or I can, or mike can, or he posts it again, you could start there to see.

Otherwise, you could try to move stuff off it and format it in the phone again and start over... see if I can find it.

Before going to formatting the card go to a windows machine and run check disk:
chkdsk x: /f /r
Replace x with the drive letter this will fix file system errors and check the freespace for bad sectors. If you have bad sectors best thing to do is backup what you can and replace the card.

Not all issues are the ROM some times apps reak more havoc on a system then the ROM itselfyou may need to go through your apps until you find the real culprit
