Root Battery pull and 'lost' apps?

Well greetings my friends! It is another day and I wanted to drop back in here for a little bit to give an update on my LATE night!

This has been a good exercise to help me learn more about these incredible EVO's and the android OS (that is NOT to say I'm anywhere CLOSE to the knowledge of most of you making comments!). I went ahead and did a fresh ROM flash from a nand ONLY because the MikG .zip I had loaded was "Bad" as I learned when attempting to flash it. So now I am going to try to find a "good" .zip to dl and try it again!

I uninstalled TB/TB Key then reinstalled them and that appears to have remedied the issue I was having with that. Unless I'm simply brain-farting i believe everything seems to be functioning as it should since the SDcard wipe and re-partitioning with EXT3.

BTW - dustwun77 I think was curious what would happen if a nand made while in an EXT4 sdcard would reflash to an EXT3 and it appears there is no problem (fingers crossed) at this point.

I was saying I don't know what would happen if he tried to restore a nand made with ext 4 to a card just set up with an ext 3 partition and advised him I would probably just do a fresh install.

Best way to explain it is like this the file system is a map that the OS/ROM uses to navigate where all the parts of a file are so that it can open it. When you save a file it does not necessarily store it contiguous it will place it here and there so using 1 - 10 this is what I'm trying to say:

Contiguous - 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10

Reality of Systems - 1 5 2 3 9 4 6 7 8 10

now imagine the numbers as lot numbers like your house is on a Lot your lot number is different from your address your address could be 3784 SomeStreet RD your lot number though is just a plain number 41 as example address have to be placed with their lot numbers this is what the file system does. the OS just goes I need 3784 SomeStreet and the file system gets the lot numbers that make up that address.

NOW how confused are ya :p hopefully this makes since to ya. when you make a nandroid it does not keep information about the file system it was on it only keeps information about the files Compressing files forces Contiguous File Structure to keep the data together. So a Nandroid keeps stuff on the file system but doesnt record information about the system such as EXT 2, or EXT 4 that is irrelevant to the Nandroid.
 
So based on what I think I understand. Currently I am on decks. An aosp rom. Partitioned ext 4. Now I want to flash MikG. A sense rom. Mik has no support for ext 4. Will MikG not "see" my ext 4 and therefore have no issues? But if I want to utilize dta2sd I need to reformat to ext3?
 
Ok, so what is the story on some roms supporting ext 4 but most supporting ext 3 partitions?

if your going to use it then yes the ROM has to support it. So yes if your going to use the EXT partition then you will need to format it to be used with the Supporting System. I generally just stick with EXT 3 and reason is that EXT 4 is an awesome system but was designed for true network/security systems. My phone doesn't qualify for either. My Opinion is this Having EXT 4 on the phone is like toting a cannon instead of a 38. Its more than whats needed. However it is an Opinion and like a body part we have, they all stink. :) I would not discourage the use of EXT 4 nor would I encourage its use on the phone. I have only 2 drives at home that are not flash drives that do not have EXT 4 one is a shared drive between Linux and Windows that is NTFS and the Other is where Windows resides. So I definitely believe in it. When we have files that range in the 350 Gigabyte range and the memory on our phone to handle it then we will all need EXT 4 for its large file support. Duck Duck Go and search for the different file systems and partitions. The home work will give you a great idea of how all this is built into a system.
 
so, the roms support whatever they support, and you have to have the ext partition formatted accordingly, but the nands that are made from either don't use either when they save the data in them.

Didn't know that.
 
Bottom line......cause stone cold said so...



If your only going to run AOSP, go with EXT 4.....


If you still switch it up, go with ext 3 for compatibility reasons

Sometimes we get a tool and really have no clue as how to use it so that's where the dreaded S word comes in. A necessary evil at times. As Simple as things can be they can have a very complex job.
