Bell Atrix [Canada]

The phone is $599.99 plus 13% tax is the outright price here in Canada. There is branding on the bell version and from what I understand no data cap.
The display unit in the store was pretty snappy. The display looked just as good as my iPhone 4, but when I get home later and charrge it up, I will have a good insight to it

CAD $650 all inc. in Canada from various sellers for the ATT unlocked version. Anyways, I'm glad that you like the display. I too, find it comparable to my iPhone-4. However, the colours are not as good as my Samsung Focus, which has Super AMOLED.

If you turn off auto brightness and set it just above 50%, the Atrix's screen looks great, without draining too much battery. Cheers.

Is it just me or does the Atrix screen seem really bright. I've got mind turned down to around 10-15% at 50% I almost went blind checking a msg in the middle of the night.

It appears that the Bell version is also HSUPA capped. From XDA:

Just got back to the office.
First app installed was speedtest.net

hmm, uploads seem to be wonky in Ottawa

turning off GPS and WIFI (not connected) improved the download speed.

Yes, I fail.

Someone tell me, is this good?

Im getting the Same Result as fair as speed test go 410 kbps constant.

^^^ Yes that sucks if its true. I could have saved a couple of bucks and got the AT&T version. Oh Well, whats done is done.
Anyway, just ordered my unlock code form cellunlock for $11.49 CAD. As soon as that comes in I'll pop in my Telus SIM to make sure everything is good, then I'll call Bell and cancel my month-to-month with them.
Haven't played with it too much yet, but I like the size, about the same size as my iPhone 4 with a bigger display... perfect size IMO. I had the Desire HD before and I thought that the 4.3" was a tad bit too big for my liking.

Just got the unlock code emailed to me. Fast and a good price.
I forgot my Micro-SIM adapter, so I'm trying to get my wife to bring it to me.
If not, I will post my results later this evening.

<snip> Confirmed that the Bell's Atrix does NOT have a HSUPA cap!

I got 1.5-2mbps upload speed from speednet.com <snip>

Just curious .. Do you remember switching OFF Wi-Fi before you ran the test? If so, perhaps you can contact a Dev @ XDA and ask 'em if there's any tests that you can perform on this seemingly uncapped unit at the store. The info may be beneficial to the Devs. Thanks.

The unlock code worked beautifully. At home right now setting it up. I like it better than my iPhone 4 so far... and I think MotoBlur is pretty good, I have no issues with it.

Ok, just got it at Future Shop across from the Best Buy in Whitby.
But... The only way I could get it was month-to-month. So I got it for $678.10 after tax. I got the cheapest voice only $30 voice plan, plus $35 activation fee. Later today I will call Bell and cancel it cause they want 30 days notice. I need to get her unlocked and ppp in my Telus SIM
Ah damn :( Went to 2 Bell stores and the Best Buy and was told the same thing :/ Gosh...this phone is going to be really expensive >_>;;; Good thing I'm getting this as a gift...:D

Oh yay!!! That's great news. :D

Post your speedtests, Sparroo!! I'm going to be so heartstricken if the HSUPA is capped for the Bell's Atrix.

I hit a BestBuy, FutureShop and was told no outright sales, even to customers with existing lines! Oddly enough, both the BestBuy and FutureShop salespeople said they hadn't sold a single Atrix yet, and this was at 18:30 today (so much for being a hot seller). So I went to WirelessWave and asked if they could sell it without a contract renewal and they said, "Sure!", so I now have a new Atrix - really liking it so far by the way - and the manager gave me a discount on the HD Multimedia Dock since I was buying outright.
:)
As for the phone, I have noticed it's missing some settings from the HTC models and is a bit more basic in it's feature set, but the phone is quite impressive. I have no lag, and I mean none, on the phone. I read about lag while swiping the unlock screen and other areas, but none here with live wallpaper running. On my Desire I would often notice very slight pausing of live wallpaper activity even when idle, but no pausing on the Atrix. I've been playing with it since about 20:00 after a top up charge, and I've yet to find any of the "faults" others have posted about the AT&T version. I'm quite happy with it.
:D
I guess I should sack out now...it's late!

Do you think they will sell it to me if I'm not with Bell :( I'm very dishearten that I'd have to spend another $65 on the phone *sigh*

haha, cause you're on your honeymoon phase. I'm surprise you're even going to sleep ;)

They didn't ask me for any info about a Bell account at all, they just sold it outright for $599, so there's a good chance you can get one there. I'm just bummed that BestBuy wouldn't let me buy from them for the Rewards points. It would have been about $60 worth...
:(

where did you get the unlock code from?
Read the thread...he posted that info about 15 posts up...it's the same place I'll get my unlock code from too in a day or so. I've bought codes from them before and they're legit.

Oh!!! That's interesting I didn't think Wireless Wave would be selling the Atrix since it's not on their website. *crosses fingers* I hope the stores I go to do and they don't ask for customer info! Wish me luck :D I rather pay $678 than $ 750.

I've tried two Bell stores and Best Buy. None will sell it to me without a bell plan. This should be illegal. I'm going to try wireless wave tonight.

Nice to see helpful folks like you in here!

OK, for those agonizing about capped HSUPA speeds .. jkrohn @ XDA puts it very well (what I've been trying to say here as well):

I am all for getting HSUPA enabled, but this is not true for the current level of upload capable on the phone. More than sufficient upstream bandwidth is available. This is why people are going from something like a Nexus one, which had HSUPA and seeing *zero decrease* in their download speeds.

Want some proof?

On my PC, over a large download I averaged 22 Mbps. It used exactly 344Kbps of upstream to sustain that download.

Ok, so packet loss over cellular is a bigger issue, and surely there are TCP window size differences, so I ran some test on my phone too. Over a 15MB download I averaged about 3Mbps down. That download used a whopping 40 Kbps upstream.

The current upstream bandwidth is more than sufficient to support current and most future network speeds as far as downstream is concerned.

HSUPA is really only important to people trying to upload files or content or doing things like cellular video calling.
