Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

Nope; I called to check into corporate discount and then when he asked if I was interested in buying through him I told him I had already pre-order from best buy. He said that was a bad idea and I should read the fine print as they have a different contract that is less favorable or something like that (forget his actual words).

Wow, this is the second time I've heard a customer say the carrier told them we have our own contracts. This is not true, your contract is through whatever carrier you choose. Maybe they meant the price of the phone is different in BB than at Verizon???

Thanks. I've been with sprint for 10 years and while I don't love them I know their quirts; when I saw the article about verizon pushing bing applications to blackberry; uggh hope that doesn't happen with the droid.

Our contracts are directly from the carriers. We don't have anything different aside from the return policy (30 days through us, no restocking fee,). I know some third parties are different, like wirefly that you have to keep the phone on the line or whatever, but not us in that respect.

I generally get the most complaints from t-mobile, even though we don't carry them. I don't think there is one consistant company I get complaints from other than that. Most of it is something that happened on their bill, charges or the such, that they wern't able to clear up. Reception issues I usually hear the most from ATT customers, but what I have learned about with complaints is that the people who don't like something will be the most vocal. If a customer comes in and loves something, they generally will be in the minority if they come in and tell me :)

So to answer, T-Mobile =/

Not sure the best way to handle my current situation, hoping you could help!

I am currently on AT&T (finally ditching the iPhone) and I was able to pre order a Droid X (in California, maybe from you? haha) and here is my dilemma:

My finance is currently on Verizon under her brothers phone plan (she has a dumb phone) and the idea was to put her number under my name once I got setup with the Droid X and then buy her a Droid X as well. Problem is the info I got for her account with Best Buys online mobile checker says:

We're sorry, but you are not eligible for an upgrade at this time. Start dreaming about your next phone today!
Mobile Phone Number: XXX-XXX-XXXX
Eligibility Date: 09/20/2010
Contract End Date: 01/20/2011

We got the first 2 pre orders at the Best Buy we went to so I am hoping to get this all taken care of the day of the release. Am I at the mercy of Verizon flagging her account for an early upgrade if we talk to them? Do I have a better chance getting the upgrade price if shes on her brothers account or after I transfer her number to mine? Let me know if you need any more info! Thanks!!!

They're probably referring to Simplexity, the third-party that used to handle online and over-the-phone contract sales for Best Buy. This is the same company that Wirefly, Wal-Mart, and just about everyone else uses.

Best Buy did away with Simplexity a couple of months ago (May, I believe). The only contracts now are the ones through the carriers themselves.

I have a similar situation as far a my contract ends 1/8/2011, I talked to VZW Customer service by phone and they got a over ride to let me qualify. They want to keep customers not lose them.
Try a phone call.

I'm sorry, but I just answered questions about the black tie service that were asked in the thread, I never "pushed" it at any time. I also said its not the perfect solution for every person, but the option is there to get it for the people it does.

There are pros and cons to every type of protection for your phone out there. If you believe its inferior, then its not for you :)

Am I going to admit its inferior? No, because its not, its a great service, but not ideal for every persons situation.

This is a Best Buy thread, so it was bound to be mentioned. I hope that answered your question, I apologize if you felt I was "pushing" it, but I strongly disagree.

Sent from my HTC Incredible using Tapatalk

My Incredible screen stopped working after 1.5 months. I had black tie so I took it to Best Buy. It should have been a warranty fix, instead they sent it as black tie repair. That was 3 weeks ago. They "gave" me a loaner phone for $150 deposit (phone so old it is not in the system). With Alltel they would have sent me a replacement within the week and Verizon doesn't seem to do it any differently. I am still waiting for my Incredible back. When mentioning that I would have my phone back if I would have used any one but black tie they defended it as if I was talking about one of their kids. Sorry if you thought I was talking about you. I never saw you as pushing it just the guys in the store, and I thought they stretched the service to make it sound like a good deal. In my opinion any repair/replacement service that keep a phone out of the customers hands for at least a month is not worth it.

Spoke with a Verizon rep on the phone but they didnt seem to know much about the phone or any of the current promotions. Did the person you talk to move your upgrade date to July 15th?

i will go inside best buy and see if their system show flagged for my early upgrade now

-i did called verizon and on their system said that i can go ahead do early upgrade but i need to order online

ill check out with BB and see what they can do....

Thanks; just out of curiosity how did Simplexity contract differ from the carrier's contract ?

Wouldn't surprise me if part of the problem is lack of supply on the Inc. From what I read the same situation will exist for the Droid X; supply is very very limited. No clue why (I was at a store and peaked over a representative shoulder and read a memo that was talking about the launch).

@ You2: I really don't know all of the details, but I do know that if you swapped your phone out through the carrier within the first 6 months, they considered it breach of contract and charged you like $300.

Wow, Best Buy never disappoints me when it comes to shit service and just generally not knowing what is going on.

The lady I talked to when I called to see if they were doing preorders said pretty much verbatim:

"well, our ad says that we are, but um, we're not feeling comfortable taking them. um, its not going to be here on the day it is so.. uh, thats just the way it is."

What any of that means, I have no idea. I didn't care to question her any further.
But I'll predict that Verizon screws this one up even more than the Incredible shortage mess. It makes no sense that Best Buy is the only place supposedly doing preorders.

man I really wish you would have wrote down his name and id # so I could call and talk to this dude. Everything he told you is absolutely not true. As said above the contract you are signing would be through Verizon, not Best Buy.

just registered, the site seems like an awesome resource.

I have a $100 credit on my account that I can use towards an upgrade with Verizon.
Would I be able to use that at a Best Buy store? I'm not sure if that's something you guys can or can't deal with.
It would be really nice to have that and also not deal with the rebate.

thanks for answering all the questions, pretty much sold me to go to Best Buy first and try to get it, so good job!

anybody know? :D

Did you call a local store, or the 1-888-BESTBUY number? It could make a difference.

The problem is that Best Buy does not know how many phones they will receive from the manufacturer. So even though you preorder the phone, there is no guarantee you will get it on launch day. As phones are received, preorders will be fulfilled in the order they were taken.

hello guys,

I was reading through and did the best buy upgrade check online. It says I'm not eligible until march, 2011 but then it says contract end date is 07/06/2010. I was wondering what this means??
I'm going to pay full price for the X(blackberry starting to fall apart).

thx.

Well, since her contract ends next year, unfortunatly she isn't eligible for that early upgrade promotion they are doing. If you transfer her number over, the contract still stays the same, so the upgrade eligibility would stay the same. You could always add a line to the new account, but then she would have a new phone number.

Oh wait!

I forgot they are doing the feature phone to smartphone upgrade. So, you could do that for her line and upgrade earlier.

To get everything taken care of in store that day, I would make sure it's flagged for the early upgrade (feature phone to smartphone) promotion first. If not, you would have to have her talk to customer service to make sure that is cleared up first. Then, make sure she is an authorized user on the brother's verizon account, and just do the upgrade on the other account that day, along with you doing the port. When you guys leave, just call customer service and do the transfer of liability (switching her from his account to yours), and they will finish up the process :)

Hope that helps!

I've been with the company since October, and I had not seen contracts other than what we are using now. In store I know the contracts we print out along with the manual ones are all official branded by the companies themselves.

But if are referring to Online and phone sales (like the call center), I don't have a lot of experience with the two areas, so you could be right :)

eek, 3 weeks? Unfortunatly, I've seen a few cases of this in store, and it always dissapoints me. What I would do is go in and have them escalate the order, it puts it into priority and gets it flagged. I know there was a few times we had to do that as well.

The reason why the process is different is because we try to repair the phone, with verizon's insurance they will just take the phone back, and send a refurbrished one from their repair center, and it's a cycle like that. Not that it's a bad thing at all, it's just a different way of doing things. If they can't fix your phone or it takes too long in doing so, they will junk out the phone and give you a brand new one from the store. You can also go into the store and have them check on the order, to see what the status is. If they can give you that, I can help a little bit more.

The reason why the loaner phones are older usually feature phones, is because we have to make sure it's not a phone that requires a data plan, as not everyone has one. We can only have so many loaner phones per store, so unfortunatly it has to be a "one size fits all" type of thing. The deposit is there because we have had situations where people have kept the loaner and not brought it back, as they felt it was better than their phone (yeah, I know).

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, and though the BTP is a really good service, sometimes situations like this happen. It's not the norm, the return is really suspose to be between 1-2 weeks. I would definitly talk to them and have them escalate the order, because you should have your phone back by now or have a new one.

I hope that helps some, I can understand your frustration though, I can't wait the 1:30 for my coffee to heat up in the morning, let alone wait 3 weeks for a phone =/

:( I never enjoy hearing these stories, as it hurts not only the local store, but the Best Buy Mobile brand as a whole. I want to stress though that this is not a picture of all the Best Buy Mobiles, as I know my store, along with many of the Best Buy Mobiles i've visited have been the opposite of this. I know there have been comments in this thread displaying the complete opposite of this as well. Still, hearing that even one is not meeting these standards is still disappointing. There are ways to help us improve though, one is on your receipt, there is a website at the bottom with a survey you fill out, if you need to express your experience I would do it there, as the managers are always looking at those :) Also, generally there is a sign on your way out that has the Store managers email address, which I would use to bring attention to the way things are being handled. I hope that helps :)

On preorders:
Well, we are doing them, but stressing to the customer that it doesn't guarantee them one on launch day. The reason we do preorders is to guarantee the customer one in the store, so they don't have to go wait in line outside a store, so they can go on with their day and when we call them they can come in and get it :)

Again, apologies for your experience, I hope I have helped though :)

If it's a credit on your account, you wouldn't be able to use that towards your purchase of the phone, as we can't bill anything to your account, or take credits from your account and apply them towards purchases, they are two completely different systems.

Are you talking about the NE2 upgrade? How did the credit get put on there? Knowing that might help me find a definite answer.

And awesome, I hope they treat you great! :)

Couple of info questions...

Does the DroidX need or come with a stylus ?

Is there or where is the soft reset button that most phones have ?

Thanks
:cool::cool:

Doesn't need a stylus, it's a capacitive screen, so it reacts to finger touch, not pressure. I know they makes stylus...styli? That will work with them, but they are special ordered online I believe.

There isn't a soft reset button, you just hold down the power button and restart the phone that way.

No problem! :)
