Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

Had to cancel my preorder, because I was going to do an annual upgrade on my main line then do alternate upgrade to my line and they insisted annual upgrades couldn't be done through Bestbuy mobile.

Just out of curiosity, Aookay at your location would you be able to do annual upgrade+alternate upgrade easily for verizon? They took over half an hour, the worker asked the other coworkers, the manager, called verizon, called the verizon/bestbuy rep for the area and even though it was confirmed the line was eligible for annual upgrade she said it could not be done unless it shows up in the computer, which she said annual upgrades do not. I'm not too upset about canceling my pre-order, the only reason I did it was verizon didn't have a pre-order but gonna stick with what works (ordering directly) from now on.

I want to make sure I understand this correctly, so you want to take the primary line's annual upgrade and apply it to a secondary line?

The alternate upgrades are easy, we do them all the time. The annual upgrades are tricky, and really it's all on the way Verizon flags the account. When we pull up your account in the system, it will show us your lines and what is eligiable for which upgrade (whether it be the 1 or 2 year). This determines how we price and ring up the phone. If you came up to me and asked to do this same scenario, I would go into the account, check the lines to see which was flagged for which upgrade, and go from there.

The annual upgrade seems to be a very specific Verizon corporate store thing. For example, when I go onto MyVerizon, my phone shows it is not due for an upgrade till next November, but according to the Annual upgrade I should be due for one this November.

It's a Verizon thing, to be honest. Sprint and ATT allow us to do it through our system for the annual upgrades. Your situation seems a little intricate, but it seems as though the Mobile employees did everything in their power to try to make it work, which is awesome, but in the end we don't have the access to do it.

But yeah, until things change for Verizon, Annual upgrade = can't do, Alternate upgrade =can do :)

We are doing a second wave of preorders from the 4th to the 10th. This does not mean you are guaranteed one on launch day, but it does allow you to reserve one in the chance that we get more than we hope :) This is a Best Buy wide policy, so if you didn't make it and are still interested, here is your chance!

I was told that today by a BB rep as well. I guess the X is going to be in the Sunday BB ad?

Yes that is exactly what I wanted to do, thanks for the reply and info. She even tried asking if Verizon could just mark it as a normal 2 year upgrade just for the pre-order but no go. I didn't know annual upgrades were treated a little differently, I do now.

Heads up guys, bb will be doing preorders again from the 4th to the 10th. This just puts you in line, doesn't guarantee one on day one

Aookay thanks for answering every ones questions. I also have one for you. After reading through this thread i decided to go back into best buy to make sure they can get on my account and do the upgrade, so i know there wont be any problems come lunch day. Well good thing i did cause they can't get into my account. Your system keep asking for some password other than the last four digits of your SSN. I have no clue what that password is. (It only allowed to up to 5 characters for this password). I went over to a verizon store to see if i could find out what it was. One they didn't even know best buy was doing pre-orders which i thought was kind of odd. Two they told me there was no codes or passwords other than your MyVerizon password for the website(which is longer than 5 characters so it can't be that) and the last four SSN numbers. Your system said this password was optional but it wouldn't let her in without it. Do you have any clue what your system is looking for here?

There is an added security feature activated on your Verizon account. It is a password on your account that is in addition to the myverizon password. Without it, you cannot make changes to the account - at least by phone or over the internet.

Was the store you went to a corporate store or a re-seller? I would think that a regular corporate store would be able to help you as opposed to a re-seller.

Thanks for doing this, Aookay! I've received multiple conflicting answers to this one, so maybe you can help:

I'm currently using a regular Verizon dumbphone that hits two years next spring, so I don't get in on the contract amnesty that applies to others. That said, I've been with them long enough that the ETF is significantly less than the cost of an unsubsidized phone (about $125 vs $400).

So my thinking is that I cancel my service with Verizon, eat the ETF, and start a new contract with a Droid X on the 15th.

1 - Will this work, or is there some horrible flaw in my plan?
2 - If so, what's the best way to port my number over?

Alternately, can I just add a new line to my account, move the number, then cancel the old line?

Thanks again!

It was a corporate store. The guy i dealt with was a little weird and i don't think he really looked that hard. but no he said the only password he see is the SSN.

Can i look this password up on MyVerizon or reset it? Do you know what its called? is it the billing password?

Yeah everyone has those number passwords as well as the last 4 of the social.

Aookay, do you know yet if BB's are going to get dummy or even real demo Droid Xs anytime soon or at all? Do they ever get phones before release so that customer's can play?

I noticed both BB's near me do have Incredible and Evo dummy phones, but not real demos. And I'm not sure when those showed up in-store compared to the release dates.

You can still get everything done in Best Buy. All they have to do is call up Verizon and do a password reset. They will ask you a couple questions to verify you are who you say you are and then you choose a new password. Best Buy operates on a system called BEAST which puts all the carriers into one system, but we totally have the option of using the same systems the carriers stores do if needed. I have a feeling that most retail stores are going to have the same amount of access as Best Buy except they can do more with billing. Like I said, its a simple 5-10 minute process of getting this issue fixed

Best Buy is only suppose to have two active demo phones for each carrier, but some stores bend the rules for some reason. A lot of times we will receive our demo phones before release day, but sometimes we just use an actual phone from the inventory and turn it into a demo phone. We do that for most of our demo phones to be honest. We currently have the Droid and Incredible for our Verizon demo phones, but I think we will get rid of the Droid for the X of course.

Do you ONLY use Beast, because we continue to use Eroes for issues like annual upgrades. As long as it says they can we can do it. If not we just call it in and still get credit for it.

I really need to start using the multi-quote feature lol

Ok but what password am i trying to get reset? There's my SSN (which can't change) and my, MyVerizon password (which i know) But i've never set up any other passwords. That's why i don't know what it is and i don't know what i'm trying to get reset.

I hear that from customers a lot and I'm not sure how a password gets set up without people knowing, but Verizon will know what you mean. They don't care about your online password. The Best Buy associate should call them for you. All they have to say is that you need to reset your account password so they can do an upgrade for you.

I just had this happen the other day. All you have to do is call customer service, give them some information and then they will give you the password. It's assigned automatically if your account didn't have it, from what I understand, and is independent of your MyVerizon and SSN. Hope that helps :)

Man, I've received some tricky questions in this thread! :)
Well, have you checked in to see if you are eligiable for the early smartphone upgrade? I would check into that first Verizon - Early smartphone upgrade for feature phone users

If that isn't applicable then we can move onto other options.

Are you trying to keep your number? If you are, canceling the line will automatically lose it, never to be seen again =/

The best way to approach it might be to call verizon and have your account switched to a month to month plan. Not prepaid. They will ding you for the ETF, you will keep your number, but you will be eligible to come in on the 15th and get the 199.99 pricing on the phone.

If you add a line, then cancel the old one, that will work, but you will have a brand new number.

Hope that clears it up for you :)

No, you have to call customer service to reset it or for them to tell it to you. It's pretty easy though, takes about five minutes :) It's your security password.

We will certainly have dummy units. I don't believe the X is an approved demo, so we might not have a working one, but this is not know yet. We don't normally, the only exception I saw to this was the EVO, our rep brought one in a week before launch. But as a store, we wouldn't have a live demo until the day of, if we get one.

Our store has a live demo of the EVO and the Pre for sprint, for verizon it's a blackberry and the Droid, so i could see the X taking the place of one of those.

I'll update you as soon as I know.

For those looking to play with the phone... it would be very strange if Verizon stores didnt have a demo for you to play with on July 15th. Just check it out at the Verizon store on the way to BB.

In employee news it said the Incredible wasn't an approved demo =/

But I have mine, so it's technically our demo ;)
